RIP to BT Garner of MindRec.com... BT passed away early 2023 from health problems. He was one of the top PCE homebrew developers and founder of the OG Turbo List, then PCECP.com. Condolences to family and friends.

This poll is pretty self explanatory!  If you are interested in buying the game, vote, and if you are interested in a signed copy, please state so. If you're not interested in buying, please state why. Note that the games will sell for $30 each, and will include a handsigned (by Nodtveidt) certificate of authenticity as well as being individually numbered. Autographed copies will obvious be much more expensive as the cd has to be sent to everyone to sign. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears! Thanks!

termis

I'd take one for sure.

I may also be interested in the signed copy, pending final price for such a copy.

nat

I will buy two copies, no question.

One will be a standard copy and the other signed.

peperocket

Sure, I'll buy 2, I don't want to miss that !!

Same as nat for me, assuming reasonable pricing.  I was crazy enough to do it for Meteor Blaster, and I'm not any saner now.

You're going to be picking a number of discs to have signed based on expressed interest and do them all at once, right? Obviously, that's significantly cheaper on the shipping than mailing one around at a time.

NecroPhile

Like nat said - I'll further assume that it would only be the manual and/or liner.

Actually, what would be cheaper, is if whenever someone wants a signed copy, we call fly in to some central point.....maybe in the Atlantic Ocean(thanks ALOT Seldane ](*,)) & sign them there & ship them from there to the buyer, I think that would be cheaper, & better!

MrFulci

I will purchase one copy, unsigned. $30.00 sounds good for a game such as this.

My suggestions would be:

- Please print actual CD's. Not every machine can read CD-R's. While it's nice to have a homebrew game on CD-R, not being able to play it sucks.

- You can always print a, "Have you tried these other games" on the manual, and list Neutopia 3, and other games you are working on. haha

- Put together an actual site for information on this game. Create a section on Frozen Utopia with information on the game, screenshots, etc, etc, That way the game has a home presence, where others can go to read about it. Put that together, then others can pass around a link when sharing the news of this game with others.

- A newsletter would be nice. Setup a mailing list where folks can be updated to 2 important dates. Preorders, and the actual day of release.

Put me down for one copy.  I would love a signed copy, since this is history in the making, but at this point I'm not rich enough to be part of it, so unsigned will have to do for now.   :)

Mr. Fulci:
These cds will be shrinkwrapped in a clear jewelcase, with an 8 page full color stapled booklet, a full color double sided cd tray card that will be individually numbered on the back, with a professionally pressed and printed game cd inside. We will thoroughly test the pressed game on actually hardware before finishing the press to ensure it will work.

That's pretty funny. I totally dig that idea!

It's not worked on a whole lot because it takes time away from actual coding, especially now that we have a deadline. After the deadline though, I will remind Nodt.

Not necessarily. If we only send the booklet around, it won't be expensive. However, I think we can skip me, nobody would want to have my signature on it anyways. :P

Keranu

I'm surprised that quite a few people are interested in buying two copies of the game, that's a good sign I guess. Seldane makes a good point, we only need to send the instruction manual which would be dirt cheap to ship around for the most part. The only problem is that it will take awhile for it to finally arrive at the buyer's home, but perhaps we could ship them the case + game first and instructions later when it finally arrives.

I don't think that this would be necessary, as the manuals could be printed and signed long before the disc is pressed (saving double postage).

I could do this, but usually the manuals and discs are done at the same time at the pressing house I'm going to. However, now that you mention it, I will ask if the manuals and tray insert can be done first. Thank you for the idea.

I'll buy one...but only after I haggle over the price, complain about shipping charges, insist on mailing a check I can't cover and finally return the game because the disc wouldn't play after I got peanut butter and kool-aid all over it.

Please make a list of "other Turbo titles" on the back of the manual.

I would be more willing to shell out the big bucks for cool packaging rather than a signed copy.  What do you think about a limited edition digipak, or a box like the original CDs with a yellow bar reading "CD Graphics Role-Playing Game"?  What about a sleeve like Exile 2, Vasteel or the SuperGrafx boxes?

However it turns out, I'm looking forward to the release.  You guys are awesome.

haha, nice to see the "have you tried..." is making it's way onto the manual.

Good way to announce the 'secret' project.

I flipepd through my manuals, to see if any other games had 2 reccomendations. It looks like the only other game with 2 reccomendations is World Court Tennis.

Another unique manual I noticed is, It Came From The Desert. It has extra bullets with the reccomendations!

Hmmm, so we will reveal the secret project on the booklet then.  Ok, well should we allude to any of our other "for sure" projects?  Maybe even including any games that we are possibly remaking that were on NES  but obviously can't sell?

nodt has, "It came from the desert". I though the extra blank bullets were hilarious. I mean, did they forget the games or didn't have anymore to list?

For the back cover, I was thinking of doing it "Exile" style, with two recommendations as two columns with a screenshot of the games Parasol and Cadash.

That would definitely be cool. Especially because of the screenshots of your upcoming games  :)

Thanks to the power of the Internet and my obscenely powerful computer, this thread was hidden from me until today.
(End)

Back to the matter at hand, I will buy at least 2 copies of this game. One for myself, and one for my brother.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I will buy at least 3-4 copies of Neutopia 3, since that project is nearer-and-dearer to my TG-16 heart and I know a lot of people who would love to get a copy as a gift.

Haha, yeah I've seen another game or two that did this as well and thought it was funny.

A Working Designs style instruction manuel like Equuskia mentioned would be cool ideed with showing our next two games on the back of the booklet with a small screenshot. However I think we ultimately have to stick with the "Have you tried..." since it's a classic :D !

So here's an idle thought...

Are you folks going to make Mysterious Song available through TZD like Mindrec does with their games?

Equuskia

I contacted them for info.
IMG

nat

It might be worthwhile.

You'd certainly gain more exposure and open the door for further sale opportunities that way. I've been checking the TZD website regularly since, like, 1995 but I only found this forum last year. And until I found this forum, I'd never heard of Frozen Utopia.

If I hadn't, who knows how long it would have been until I heard about you guys? I'm sure there are many others out there who shop TZD but don't know about this forum.

But then again, I don't know how big a piece of the action TZD would want for that kind of thing. Hopefully you can work something out with them.

OldRover

If we publish through MindRec, bt's assured me that we'd get MSR through TZD no problem, as well as a few other venues. Now it's time to find out just how big of a cut they'd take.
