My one and only GSP purchase was a $200 baseball bat. It got to my house but it was shipped  in a triangular USPS shipping box with none of the bubble wrap or shipping material the original seller had packed it wth. The box was almost completely destroyed when it was delivered.

To further complete my experience, the postal service worker had left the bat and ripped up box lying beside each other on my porch.

Buying broken consoles and then fixing and modding them. While still trying to make a profit even if small.

Would that be considered flipping or trying to spread the joy of Obey? Speaking of NEC consoles only.
I buy broken systems and fix/upgrade them all the time and I dare anyone to call me a gouger. I could easily get 50% or more for them but I don't because I want people to get them that want to play them, not lock them away in a plastic box.

NightWolve

Depends on how high your markup is.

A broken system is inherently worth less than a working one. So fixing it, adding a charge for your labor, inherently makes it worth more. After that, it's all a matter of how high do you wanna go in reselling ? $1000 ?? $500 ? There are ranges that'll separate you from "For the love of Obey!" versus "For the love of flipping it!"

If you give people good prices, they're not gonna complain...

I sell a referbed TG-16 with the RF jack replaced with a stereo AV jack (same as the Genesis 2), an AV cable, power supply, controller, and three games for $150 shipped.

NightWolve

The other thing too is, he's going for a simplistic definition of flipping.

Somebody who can repair these consoles has to buy them in order for them to get back into the general game-playing public's hands. Most gamers can't repair these consoles which need full capacitor replacement, and possible CD laser replacement in the worst cases, so unless somebody comes along who has all the skills needed, most of the public will not buy broken merchandise obviously...

That's not quite the flipping of snatching up working items, hoarding them, and waiting for low supply to drive prices upwards, then reselling when the going's hot, etc. A firmer definition of "flipping" is with the negative connotations of max gouging/profiteering. Every seller (well, most, in principle) you see on eBay bought the item lower somewhere, from the manufacturer or somebody else, and is effectively reselling/flipping. But are their markups reasonable/respectable is the thing (which is all relative to your judgement) ?

Unfortunately, some people here think it is...

Well, I have already posted two of my systems in another thread in the sales section.

Basically the good condition machines I will try for a small profit but the ones that were junk that are fully restored I will try to sell at cost or even at a slight loss. I know there are others on these forums that do this what seems like full time. I just wanted to take a stab at it and see how feasible it is to buy junk, non working consoles and make them work.

Out of seven consoles that I bought. Most all of them had non working cd-roms, a few had no sound and two of them were scavanged from. I have four working out of those seven so far and I am confident the other three will work just fine once I have a bit more time for them.

I think the biggest hurdle is the learning curve for me. Bad decisions or not knowing some things may have increased my cost of restoring these machines. But you won't learn by not doing anything. So... As I said, any machines I list will most likely be at cost even if it seems a touch high. Only for the fact it's what I have invested in them minus my time for actually working on them.

In the end, flipping or not, another good, restored console is a good thing.

Naw man they are definitely print outs because you can clearly see dungeon explorer II is missing a portion of its super cd logo.  Also seemed as though he was running out of color because its black on the left side, and more purple on the right.  Bonk I want to say is also, but for some reason I can't put my finger as to why, but gives me bad vibes.

Blackthorne has always been a marginally pricey game on the 32X, it's pretty uncommon compared to most of the library.

Very nice!  I think my copy might be missing the manual, but sacrifices must be made for good games. ^-^

I remember when Chaotix went for about $10 more than that...I haven't even shopped for a copy lately as last I saw, they were going for $60-$70 CIB.

I can understand SNES, Genesis, and even Turbo games being gouge-worthy these days, but 32x shit?  Really?  The console bombed, and even with my affinity for it, I still admit that its library is horrendously anemic.  I guess that's the sort of thing that appeals to "instant collectors" as it's not (or at least it wasn't) pricy to acquire all the games.  Considering not even half of them are worthwhile though...

Hi all. With all the eBay hate, myself included, I wanted to tell about a fair transaction. After the Game of the Week about Genpei Toumaden, I did a quick look on eBay and found it for pretty cheap CIC. $10 I live really out in the middle of nowhere, so I still buy from eBay sometimes. Anyway, before the game got to my house, seller triggandc contacted me, told me he accidentally sent the wrong game (Sensanu o Densetsu), and then said just keep it. I thought that was pretty cool consideringhow eBay has been feeling pretty cutthroat lately. Also bought a Tennokoe Bank from him in the same transaction. Prices seemed low compared to other auctions at the time. It was all $26 shipped. Thought you guys would like to hear a story from eBay that was not scummy. Happy hunting.

Why pay hundreds for a game like Sapphire when you could pay thousands for a PAL-only mediocre 32X game or even hundreds just for a bootleg.

The 32X is collectable?

Wait people upset about prices?

What? People gouging a system library for more money then what it may be worth or in demand for?

The devil you say.

Yeah I wasn't all to enthralled that the 32X copy of the game was $70 where as the SNES copy was $45.

But I blame game sack and pro Jared as their two videos reviewing it made me want to pick the game up. Also that sweet issue of Nintendo Power with Scropian on the front cover had a pretty good article and full page spread on the levels which sparked further interest.

It's funny as I think I heard someone say that Blizzared host the PC version of the game for free to play.

A little late to the 32X party here, but I managed to get a full set back in the day and other than Spider-Man it was a pretty cheap set to collect.  I think the library is a little underrated - it's very small, yes, but many of the games are exclusives, and many of the ports are actually very well done.

Space Harrier on the 32X is still my favorite port of the game, it is near arcade perfect, and while it doesn't have the customizations and extras of the Sega Ages version on the Saturn, the control feels the best on the Genesis pad.  The Virtua Racing port is also the best - much cleaner than the Genesis version and more faithful to the arcade (and just better designed) than that disappointing Time Warner port to the Saturn.  Virtua Fighter is a cleaner, better port than the Saturn version (done by Yu Suzuki himself), although the music isn't as good (naturally) but the added camera angles are fun.  After Burner is similarly solid, although I prefer the Sega Ages version with the Mission Stick and the added menu options and soundtrack.  Then of course there's Star Wars Arcade, which is solid and the only home port of that iconic arcade game. T-MEK is also exclusively ported to the 32X and not a bad game either.

When it comes to originals, you get unique entries into classic SEGA IP's like Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 and Knuckles' Chaotix, and then unique games like the Hummingbird shooter Kolibri (from the Ecco team), Tempo (a fun platformer from Red Entertainment team behind the Bonk and Gate/Lords of Thunder games),  Metal Head (a decent mech game with great texture-mapped graphics), Shadow Squadron (a spiritual sequel to Star Wars Arcade) and a guilty pleasure of mine, Cosmic Carnage, which is an excessively bloody and disgusting Mortal Kombat clone with a space slant.

Many of the ports that would hit other non-SEGA consoles are also of high quality - the general consensus is that Blackthorne, Brutal: Paws of Fury, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, and Primal Rage are best on the 32X, and Mortal Kombat II and NBA Jam TE are both quality ports themselves.

Really, the only disappointment on the system is Doom, which severely under-utilizes the system in what's commonly been called a rushed port.  BC Racers isn't as good as the SEGA CD version, but still an enjoyable game.  The Spider-Man game is pretty dog shit and was also rushed, so naturally it's the most expensive game on the system.

And that's basically the system in a nutshell outside of a bunch of Digital Pictures CD games and a bunch of sports titles.  None of the games are classics, really, but a lot of them are interesting, unique to the system, and pretty enjoyable.  It's a fun system to fire up from time to time and I definitely recommend tracking one down provided the prices aren't too crazy (I've been out of the 32X game too long to know).  Personally, I play Virtua Racing, Space Harrier, Kolibri and Cosmic Carnage the most.
I'm a notorious strange man.

Every arcade game based on Star Wars has been pretty stellar except for Return of the Jedi by Atari. I didn't care for it at all.
