This latest,MGS throw me off due to it's more open world and manage mechanics.Beside the enemy soldiers have a very wide field of vision. So unless you know the area well you will be spotted easily.Still i'm getting use to how it plays now. There's lot's to do in MGSV it puts the past metal gears to shame with the content it has.

(well, maybe they could have done a bit more with the sound effects). Can't wait to play more. Not sure about the gameplay mechanics, as to how do you replenish your energy (haven't checked a faq).

That's great work, este! How did they manage to get you interested in working on an English fan patch project though ?? This is the first time I've seen it.

I was always so busy in my personal life I felt bad if I committed to something and didn't follow through.

I was going to help with voice acting in Mysterious Song, but the cheap microphones I had purchased sounded horrible and I was juggling graduate school + child, so I just gave up on Mysterious Song :(

But I have been itching to work on something and Zeroigar presented itself at the (nearly) perfect time and place.

I created a few pages of a Xanadu manual a few years ago (it looks like I will get to finish that project :) ), so the Zeroigar work was an easy extension.

Life is still busy, but I know I can squeeze in time for PCE projects because I love 'em. Sometimes I am crying, but I love  'em.

I've been a bit busy lately, but with the release of MGSV, I've finally decided to play through the Metal Gear Saga. I had the games (except for 4), but never got around to playing them. I'm about halfway through the first one, and, while it is a great, great game, it's not as mind-blowing as I would've hoped.

Xbox 360 Tomb Raider

I just finished the game with 100% completion. This is the first game in awhile that I was actually motivated to finish on 100%. I would highly suggest this game to anybody looking for a cheap 360 game at this point. The environment is cool, and the story is all right. The depth of customization/collecting was enough to where I enjoyed it, but it didn't kill my OCD collecting self.

I picked up a Playstation TV brand new from a pawn shop for $30, and as fate would have it, there's now an exploit that finally makes the English version of Ys: Memories of Celceta playable by overwriting the whitelist.

I sold my Vita after I platinum-ed the game, thinking that I'd just get a PS TV instead.  I've never been huge on handhelds, anyway.  Unfortunately, they never patched the US version, so I thought I was pretty much screwed out of ever playing it again.  Crazy that I picked that thing up on a whim today and it just so happened that the exploit became public a few days ago.

Anyway, I spent about four hours playing it on my nice 60" display.  It was a glorious time. :D  I'm still wondering how Falcom is progressing with Ys VIII.  It's been so long since I've seen any info on it.

At any rate, the PS TV is suddenly a pretty solid purchase now.  I think Best Buy even has a bare bones unit for $40 now.

I've yet to get the hack figured out yet, the PSTV is cranky with my Gmail account.  Would you possibly be willing to forward that exploit email and the updated whitelist to others?

Huh, interesting, I didn't know about this Playstation TV "microconsole."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_TV

So it can do about 100 Vita games, PSP, PS1 and even PC Engine games so there's an approved emulator included along by default. I guess it's an el cheapo alternative to PS4 and an admission portables just aren't that popular anymore ??

GohanX

It's a fun device to play around with. I mostly use to it play PSP games on my tv, it's much better than hooking the psp up with component cables. Mine isn't hacked, but I have a lot of the arcade collections on there so it makes a nice little HDMI rombox.

xcrement5x

I got the hack figured out last night, it will work on firmware up to 3.52, don't upgrade to the most recent 3.55 as the functionality gets wiped out.

For anyone interested:

Here is the news post to read the instructions:
http://hackinformer.com/2015/09/24/mr-gas-releases-methode-to-write-to-the-vita-filesystem-pstv-whitelist-patch/

then go here:
http://wololo.net/talk/pstv_whitelist/

And they will autogenerate and send the emails needed to complete the hack to you.

I was playing Uncharted: Golden Abysss last night finally ;)

A very strange thing happened today.  I sat down to play a few casual minutes of Genesis before work today & ended up 1ccing Thunder Force III for the first time ever.  It's a good thing the bosses are pitifully easy to kill, otherwise I'd have been a goner for sure (I beat the final, final, final boss with zero lives remaining & no power ups).

Finished Shadow of the Colossus.

As a general "experience", it's definitely one of the best games I've ever played. It leaves a huge impression and excites the imagination wonderfully. It reminds me of Ikaruga in that it's one of those game concepts that's so simple and clever, it makes you wonder why nobody had ever done it before.

When focusing in on it as an action game, however...it's really just "OK". Personally, I think of it in terms of a 70/30 split; I found it boring roughly 70% of the time that I was actually playing it.

The long horse rides from the hub to the colossi could make me feel the atmosphere...the vast, lonely, beautiful, raw world of the game...about 30% of the time. The rest just felt like a waste. Watch a bland 3D landscape go by for several minutes. Hope your horse obeys your commands (they programmed him to disobey you occasionally). Do your best not to go the wrong way, or else it's up to a half hour of desperate wandering.

The 30/70 split applies during the colossi fights, too. In the beginning, I spend about 30% of the time eagerly studying the layout of the land, the movement of the boss, and what I can do to provoke him. The other 70%, I'm merely waiting for either the colossus or my character to get into the right position to try what I think might work. Later, when I've cracked his pattern and know how to kill him, I spend 30% of the time actively doing something to accomplish this, and the other 70% of the time getting shaken off and waiting for a chance to get near where I need to be again.

Ico was much better. You can set aside all the story and atmosphere, and you've still got yourself a totally decent puzzle game. Again, Shadow of the Colossus has one hell of a presentation, and I'm actually glad that it's held in such high regard and looked to for inspiration. I really appreciate some of its minimalism, too. It's just that the action itself is actually pretty milk-and-water.

I might play it one more time to see if knowing how to do everything in advance improves the experience.

Lately I've been totally addicted to this digital card game, Star Realms:
http://www.starrealms.com/digital-game/

I ordered the physical copy from Amazon and decided I'd try out the digital version while I waited for it to arrive. I've probably played it 100 times since then. Really great game. It's free to play and $5 to unlock harder AI, online play, and more than 1 chapter of the campaign mode (which is just variations and specific goals to win strung together).

It's on Android, IOS, Mac, PC and plays perfectly on my Linux laptop via Wine and if you buy it on one device it unlocks the full version on all the other devices you own.

Dangit, I think I'm going to go play it right now...

xcrement5x

Shadow of the Colossus is really one of those games that made me realize how much art there can be involved in the game.  There are a ton of weird side things you can do as well that are never really touched on and just discovered as you wander around (his name is Wander after all).  I enjoyed the game for what it was as more of a presentation piece to what can really make a game feel like art.  Reading your review of it makes me want to tackle it again on PS3, as I only played the PS2 version.

Yeah, and it was a great way for Sony to close out the PS2 chapter I thought. The programmers said their final good-byes to the system with it and took it to its max. I can't imagine how much better it looks having been remade for PS3! ICO was also a genuine privilege to play but shorter I recall.

I don't normally like online games much because they tend to get repetitive and boring, but I've been playing a ton of Rocket League. Soccer with rocket cars. It's awesome! And my car is the Delorean too, can't get much better than that.

VenomMacbeth

Been playing a good bit of VOTOMs Battling Road for the Super Fami, and I've gotta say...I can't understand why people rag on it so much.

Is it because controlling the mech is like controlling a car?  I actually don't mind this.  After all, VOTOMs = Vertically-Oriented Tank for Offensive Maneuvers. :/

The difficulty does take a rather large spike pretty early, though.  After conquering a stage where I'm assuming the ground is wet, as the controls are very slippery here, you fight one-on-one with another mech that has a seemingly infinite supply of missiles.  Well, after about 10 tries I finally beat him today.

After that, you go to another "battling road" segment that culminates in a boss battle with three turrets that have yet to not kick my ass, which brings me to my main problem with this game: the hitbox.  It's far too large, making effectively dodging enemy bullets nearly impossible sometimes.

Still, the game manages to be no more difficult than most other shooty games of the era & for the low-low price of $11, I'd say it's well worth it for any fan of mech combat games, especially if you're a fan of VOTOMs in particular.

I think you would have been more impressed with it at release.  We all were, my friends and I at least.  Now that several generations worth of technical and artistic achievements have passed since, it's easy to forget why some games held top honors previously.  The level design, animation, music, branching paths, bosses... everything just came together.  It's well deserving of the pedestal it's on, and I think even now it stands the test of time.
