So....I do not own really many TG16/TGCD games and with my tax return I think I am going to buy at least 1 game for either TG16 or cd.  I figured I would consult the TG gurus here before I start looking.  I have these right now:

TG-16:
R-Type
Dungeon Explorer
Falcon
TV Sports Football
Keith Courage
Victory Run
Ninja Spirit

TG-CD:
Bonk's adventure/revenge/Gate of thunder CD
Splash Lake
Cosmic Fantasy 2
Exile

I do have a system card 3.0 so I can play those CD games as well.  I like RPGs, action, side scrolling beat em ups....

What is a good recommendation? Thanks :)

Based on your interests I'd recommend these:

RPG:
Ys Book I & II (Classic Action RPG with a great story and CD presentation)
Neutopia (Polished Zelda clone that looks and controls great)
Final Lap Twin/World Court Tennis (The Quest mode on both of these makes a fun Dragon Warrior type RPG out of Racing/Tennis and it works surprisingly well!)

Action:
Bloody Wolf (Fun Contra-esque game with a fun Engrish story and variety with powerups and level design)
Legendary Axe (Classic game for the system, great music, mature fantasy world and solid pace)
Dragon's Curse (See the GOTW thread, it's the best Wonder Boy game, really clever and creative)
Tiger Road (Fun hack and slash with a unique Asian flair)
Shockman (Pretty good MegaMan-type with a well done 2 player mode)

Beat 'em Up:
Riot Zone (Easy but addictive offshoot of Streets of Rage)

Have fun!
I'm a notorious strange man.

TC, can you play Super CD games? I only see normal CD games on the list.

If not, buy an Everdrive. Not only can you install a whole library, but you can install the Super 3.0 bios to play more CD games.

The Turbo doesn't have a lot of beat em ups, but it has an excellent remake of River city Ransom, and also Double Dragon II

I was thinking about Neutopia and Ys...I wasnt aware of the features in Final Lap Twin! That sounds like an interesting twist!  Good recommendations, Thanks Grolt!

I am gonna say any of the Y's games for some RPG action.

Shooter - Super Star Soldier <- One of my favs. Not to hard but plenty hard especially later stages.

Platformer/RPG = Cadash

Hexagonal Strategy Game = Vasteel or Military Madness

Action/Dungeon Crawler style = Silent Debuggers

Super star soldier...I think I will check that out.  Not sure I know of Cadash. Ill look at that one too.   Unfortunately it looks like I have to go to ebay for most of these dont i.....Ill be expecting ludicrous pricing then :P

Didnt see your post!  Yes I can play Super CDs. I have the System card 3.0.  I watched that video...I have river city ransom for NES thanks for the suggestion.  Those graphics do look better than NES(as they should)  :)

If you haven't played Y's 1 & 2 nor Super Star Soldier, then those are your must buys. You're looking at $200 plus on thebay though. Why not post a WTB in the buying/selling section here? I've gotten plenty of deals there.

If you are a must own type purist then get the Huey, but an Everdrive is cheaper than Super Star Soldier.

On a cheaper note, Blazing Lazers is a must own for every turbo fan. It's probably my most played turbo game. I love it. Legendary Axe 1 and 2 make that list of turbo classics as well. They are Golden Axe style beat'em ups, so that may suit your needs more.

If you have a region mod, Bomberman 94 is pretty sweet if you are tired of 93.

Keep us posted!

Coincidentally, Super Star Soldier is coming up for the game of the week chosen by me. It's a solid game and definitely worth a bit of cash.

Depending on what you like, aside from everything else mentioned here, Buster Bros aka Pang is a steal, and you can get the JP version of Air Zonk rather inexpensive. I don't think anyone mentioned Splatterhouse yet, so get that, too!

I'd add Jackie Chan, an excellent action/platformer.

Ahahha. Damn i am missing out apparently. Maybe i will post in the WTB section. Its kind of bad though....i need it complete with the outer box. Call it OCD or what you will. These have been awesome suggestions. Thanks guys. Ill post when i finally find the one to buy

Don't worry, a lot of us have collectard tendencies.

The most important thing is to help us out by naming genres/games/aspects of games you like... Then we can try to fit our recommendations to your tastes.

For example, if you don't like a game, or only like a specific aspect of a game...all of that can help us.

For example, if you said that you enjoyed old skool gunboat simulations...then we would say, "GUNBOAT!"

Joking, of course.

I think there is only one gunboat simulation in the cosmos.

Blazing Lazers can be had even on eBay for around $30 CIC if you are having reservations about dropping coin on the Soldier series. I would argue it's no less a game. That Soldier Blade music though!

Question for all: I've read conflicting articles on this topic. Does anyone know if the soldier team or parts of worked on the development of Blazing Lazers?

Not sure, but you can find out here!

Blazing lasers is essentially an Aleste game, so expect a bunch of compile people

martinine

Thanks Lukester. I have never been to that site, but it is nice to know it exists!

Looks like a couple of the directors were on the Soldier team as well. They are so similar. A couple also worked on MUSHA another Aleste game of high collectibility.

Good point. Here's my problem. Im a game collector....(duh most of us here are). I own about 46 game platforms.  I have every intent to playing all my games...but there are plenty i have not touched yet....tg16/cd is one i havent touched yet. I listed the games i have but none have been played yet. I think about 5 are still factory sealed. So as far as what I like for this system.....i cannot say :-(  i can however list games i like for other systems.  I love RPGS be ot strategy or action rpgs. Chronotrigger...secret of mana...valkyrie profile...ogrebattle...zelda series...castlevania...dragon warrior
I enjoy beat em ups. Double dragon, golden axe, battletoads.
I like shooters....r type...raiden....
I also like side scrolling platformers like mario....hell i like almost everything...racing...sports. Im not picky. If its a good game and its polished ill like it. Hope that helps with recommendation. Im already making a huge list with the games mentioned here already!!

You're not a collector.

You are in fact a collectard.

If you like blowing stacks of cash on ugly boxes, then sure.

I'm not a collector hater, I'm just saying maybe you should think of a better way to spend money and still get some satisfaction about it.

I used to have a system and desperately try to buy a bunch of average games with my limited wallet. Now I know my limits and I'm happy with just an Everdrive.

Ever watch Veggie Tales?

For now i am :-P

And lukester. I actually do get plenty of satisfaction from it. I make enough to support my habit while owning a house. Its just what i enjoy. Whatever i have sealed wont be sealed forever. Just have a lot to play and work takes up lots of time.

The the combo CD with Gate of Thunder. It has 3 games on it and a hidden Bomberman game on it I believe. Lots of fun for your money.
