Candidate link for addition.

The Internet Archive added a "Software Library: MS-DOS Games" section. Dunno how full the MS-DOS collection is, but you can play the game directly in your browser.

Does anybody know of good free backup software that's a tad better than the internal shit Windows Vista offers ? I wanna be able to backup as just simple file copies, select just the folder trees I care about, and having it be done seamlessly in the background if possible.

I just use batch files right now. See, I bought a Western Digital 3 terabyte USB 3 external drive for ~$110-120 some time back, and finally backed up my legacy project folder and important stuff the other day, but now I'm regretting I didn't get the Toshiba model for the same price that included the backup software. I thought the included Windows Backup app would be good enough cause I remember it not being so bad for Windows XP, but it's pretty cheap/limited for Vista, far more than what I would've expected. My memory of past versions might just be faulty, I dunno... :/

EDIT: Question answered by SuperPlay.

http://www.cobiansoft.com/cobianbackup.htm

I think that looks like a freeware backup solution I was going for in terms of simplicity.

Thanks for posting this. It's an amazing collection of interviews. Too bad about the name though. :P
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

I can look past the name. This site is fantastic! Thanks Mathius. I love this thread :)

As its been a while, I have started to have a clean-up. So far I have checked the links and added a strikethrough to the ones that are no longer valid.

Next stage is for me to update broken links.

It is crazy how many resources disappear each month/year/etc.

Do you know if anyone has been archiving some of the web resources?

I tried this, years ago, but it was quite cumbersome and in many cases nearly impossible...(unless you wrote a script to automatically scrape data).

Anyway...it is kinda neat to see the fallen soldiers...and sad.

It is defiantly sad to see many of these great resource vanish over time.  Unfortunately I do not know of any source of site scrapes, maybe it will be worth looking at archive.org to see if any of them are there.

NightWolve

Found this site which I thought was interesting enough.

http://www.oldversion.com/

Needed a MP3 player that works on Windows 95, they had one of the last ones that still installs and works. The premise appears to be to stockpile all those old apps that worked on prior versions of Operating Systems so they're there should you ever need them.

In software development it's somewhat useful to see if your apps still run on basic Win API level "1.0" beginning with Windows 95 which is maintained/enhanced on to Windows 10. The API on Win95 is like SCSI 1.0 and if your app uses the basics it'll work all the way to the present for the most part. Compatibility issues here and there pop up with newer OSes, but it can be done if you code it right.

I have set up a bootload of Windows emulation installs for 95/98/ME/2K/7/etc. because of my work on TurboRip. Just now got it encoding MP3s on Win95 which was an obstacle because newer LAME MP3 encoders were compiled to exclude it to naturally take advantage of newer CPU instruction sets. I want one last solid/stable version of TurboRip that's fully "retro" before I leave it behind for a GUI version someday basically and this excursion in tediousness is also helping me to advance my SCSI library that I've been working on across the years.

Anyway, site might be a useful just in case.
