Hello PCE brothers (and sisters? lol) I need a price check of shorts or atleast your 2 cents. I have a guy offering Ninja Spirit loose for $60. Worth it? Is that high or normal price? Figure this would be the place to ask with the experts of all things PCE. Sorry if this question seems silly to some. Thank you for any input!

crazydean

Look at ebay's sold listings before making a thread asking about price. Looks like a loose copy goes for about $30. $60 is fair for complete, though.

TheAlphaOmegaX3

Ok. Might sound odd, but I try not to use ebay to determine price too much. Ya its loose so $60 sounds high.

CGQuarterly

$60 for a loose copy of Ninja Spirit is highway robbery.  Shit, $60 for a CIB copy is pretty outlandish in my opinion, but I bought that game back when it was a lot cheaper.

Ninja Spirit was one of those games where the Japanese version always seemed to sell higher than the US version.  Not sure if that's still true today with all the crazy prices people are paying now days.

$60 loose does seem high.

TheAlphaOmegaX3

Your right about the difference in pricing. The TG16 version do seem to run cheaper. I think the artwork difference jacks the price. Id go TG16 if my PCE was region modded. Might be worlth modding mine soon. Thanks guys. Ill tell the guy a definitive no lol.

SignOfZeta

That seems nuts for a loose copy. Complete, maybe.

Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Yes, this does sound odd.  I've seen this type of post many times and I fail to understand the logic.

In a free market price is determined by multiple transactions where supply meets demand.  Where else are you going to observe multiple transactions of turbografx-16 games?

It has been said many times but I will say it again for the new folks, look at sold auctions (not sold buy-it-now's).  Auctions are true examples of the market setting the price.  And for the love of god, ignore current listings that start at anything over a few dollars, especially buy-it-now's

If you just have a fundamental problem with eBay in general, that's your choice, but everyone else that understands economics is using ebay

CrackTiger

You don't have to factor in eBay if you're just curious about the "value" of a game, but if you can click a couple buttons and buy it for half of what someone is offering to sell it to you for, it's worth checking.

Thank you all for your input guys. Great advice. Very grateful.

A pretty good rule is never pay a premium for a loose game.

I agree that $60 for a loose copy is a raw deal. You should be getting a complete copy for that price. Even then, a complete copy could probably be had for cheaper if you waited for the right moment.

For reference, maybe about a year or two ago I was able to get a copy for something like $39 complete. I'm sure with the 'retro gaming' tax you see these days the cost is higher now, but it shouldn't be $60 higher.

Damn, this is genuine graciousness.  We don't get much of that around here.

Every time someone uses that expression an angel gets their wings, well, at least in my book. Thank you.

CrackTiger

Ninja Spirit is a special case, because they made a lot of copies, knowing it would be popular and it is one of the few games to ever get a 10 from EGM. But it was also a case-less pack-in with the TurboDuo.

Colletards and gougers will try to twist this around to claim that the case is super rare and valuable. But it was a very common game CIC and CIB and the loose game is only that much more common and unvaluable.
