No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

...and boy is it yellowed. Going to need a major bleach cleaning. I can't believe how small it is too! D:

Also, what is the little I/II switch for?

Ah, ok. Was thinking it was likely that, but just checking.

the original white pc engine don't have any Audio Video connection except for RF.  you can buy an AV booster that slots into the back that gives you the composite RCA connections or a later model that adds battery back up RAM.

Or you can mod the console for either s-vid, RGB or even mod the AV booster

The later models of the pc engine ie coregrafx, coregrafx-II, shuttle and supergrafx have AV connections to composite RCA.

Yeah, mine just has RF. There's a bloke in Canada that does an addon that does RGB through it using the expansion port.

It really is great in that respect. I wish all consoles had such a small footprint.

Thanks. I have read a guide online for whitening a PC Engine using only pure liquid bleach. No sunlight or anything. When I get the gamebit I ordered (required to open it), the first thing I'm gonna do is give the plastics a thorough cleaning in warm soapy water. I'll go on from there if required.

P.S. Is that a Popful Mail avatar?

if only the US division shared the same philosophy.  I would have snapped a TG16 years ago

I've heard of people using bleach, but personally I can attest to how well the peroxide immersion works.  I've got pics of a peroxided SFC on the last page that turned out amazingly well I think.  I'm sure Arkhan and Dan have used the peroxide/retrobrite method, probably others too, but it's up to you of course.

And yes, that's a Popful Mail avatar.  I am a big fan of the game and love to collect Popful Mail stuff when I find it.

Like I said, I'll see when I have all the stuff I need to open it.

I have Popful Mail on the MegaCD. I have no idea how it compares to the PC Engine version gameplay wise, but it's good on the MCD, if a little hard. Definitely has better graphics too.

Basically anything but the SFC version of PM is pretty great. SFC version isn't terrible, but there really just isn't much of a reason to play it over the others.

Regular straight bleach works great for PC Engines and regular white pc engine controllers. However, the CD drives and IFU units require something like retro-bright /40 volume hair creme for the hydro peroxide treatment since they are made out of a different kind of plastic.

I'll make sure to ask my barber the next time I get my hair cut if he has hair creme for restoring the colour on IFU CD units
