I've got a tg16 here right now with the Game-Tech region mod  installed. The mod works great with official HuCards but the everdrive always has issues. Issues include fail to load a Rom, Graphical glitches, and failure to boot entirely. Any thoughts? I understand theSteve designed this circuit.

TLDR: The issue was with the v2.5 everdrive itself. A replacement everdrive v2.5 does not encounter the issue.

There are a couple of revisions of the TED that won't work with a TG16 with any sort of AV mod, or through a CD dock or Turbo Booster.  Maybe this is similar?

The one I am testing with is a v2.5. However I can try it separate from the dock and see if it makes a difference.

Not sure, but I think mine is a v2, useless except through RF... even if you've added RCA jacks to the system it won't work..

v2.5 might be ok with TG16...

Well just testing outside the dock it still won't work. This system is not av modded. Only the Game-Tech region mod.

Check Game-tech's youtube channel, I think he put up a video about his region mod and getting it to work with the everdrive.

MobiusStripTech

I talked to him about it already. The circuit is designed so that it should always work, but some drives just won't. Looks like I have one of those ones.

Here is the last video of 7 or so, of game-tech's videos diagnosing the issue.
Summary: Ver 1.1 Everdrive does not work, Ver 2.4 does work.

I think the reason is because of how much power the Everdrive draws causes a problem when there is a region mod installed.

MobiusStripTech

Right and I have a v2.5. Which does normally work, but some of the later versions just won't work and it is related to power draw.

Are you using a 3rd party power brick ? If so what is the rating ?

The problem was terrible design of the TED v1's, both Kevtris and Rene of DB Elect. have said this.
The level translation on v1 TEDs was just resistors, v2 stuff used proper level translators.
I don't actually remember talking to you about this, but the tg16 region mod board never had any problems with even v1 TEDs....
I rarely get to this forum any more so email me direct if you still need help...

i second this
the issue with TED and region mods was with the ED V1 and the PCE/CG units
using either the ED V2 or any other version of the system solved the issue
i have not seen the 383 based region mods have any issues with the ED V2.X on any system
also note that the 2 chip region mods had issues with all ED versions

MobiusStripTech

I no longer have the console in my possession to test with, but this was a v2.5 everdrive using the Game-Tech board, which is the single chip design. It was definitely a weird issue and the only time I have ever seen this before. Normally I remove the 2 chip designs if I come across them. I do appreciate everyone popping up in here with their comments though.

As a side note, the owner has told me that he has not seen any of the issues I described and he does have an earlier v2, so maybe it is my drive specifically.

Thanks everyone!

Just a heads up, I ended up getting another TG16 that was encountering the same issue using a different region mod. I got a hold of another v2.5 everdrive and found that it did work. So there was definitely an issue with the specific everdrive. I have since had that everdrive replaced and no longer see an issue.

For anyone that encounters a similar issue, the everdrive that was having problems was a black solder mask v2.5. The replacements were green solder mask v2.5.
