Controller issue, or game issue, or both?

I just got a copy of Dracula X yesterday.  ^_^  I also just got food poisoning yesterday.  >_<  Anyhow, before the food poisoning set in, while I was still blissfully unaware of the horrendous torment in store for me, I played a bit of Dracula X, and I have to say, it's pretty good.  It worked fine yesterday, though I didn't play it that much.  Then I went to sleep.  Then the food poisoning set in.  I awoke several times (at least five) during the night to massive projectile vomiting, which, I might add, was not fun.

The next morning, when I woke up for the final time, I noticed that both my Duo, and its controller had been splattered (not covered, but moderately splashed) with what appeared to be some sort of radioactive pink ooze.  Thankfully, it was far enough away that it was spared the majority of it...  So I proceeded to try to clean them off, then I tried to play Dracula X again.  I was having some troubles with button I.  Sometimes it didn't work at all, sometimes it worked fine, sometimes it lagged by about a half second, and sometimes if you held it down, it would eventually rapid-fire itself.  This was unacceptable.  So I took the controller apart and tried to clean it from the inside.  After that, I still had some button I troubles for about two or three minutes.  After that, they went away.  What then started sporadically happening was that, if I lost a life and came back, the game would somehow crash.  It displayed the game screen, and the music played, but the game wouldn't respond at all.  The blue box showed credit and rest, as if it were paused, but the music still played.  I couldn't unpause it or anything.  But I could still press Run and Select to reboot the console.  Then the controller worked all right for a while.  This crashing problem didn't happen with great frequency, but it did happen about three or four times.

What I'm wondering is if anyone has a copy of Dracula X with a non-tainted controller that does the same thing (like, are there defective copies of Dracula X floating around), or if anyone has ever had something similar happen to a controller and have something like this result, or something.  I should probably test it with some other games, too.  But yeah, any relevant knowledge would be greatly appreciated.  And I'm sorry if some of the graphic details were more than you wanted to know.

Have you tried it with another controller? Does the game always do the same things every time you play? Is it the only game giving you trouble?

And what did you eat?

akirashinigami

I only have one controller.

Yeah, that seems to be the only thing it's doing wrong.

I haven't tried it with any other games yet.

And some ocean perch, from a local restaurant called Shorty's.

Are you playing a CD-R? If so, that's probably your issue right there. Don't play CD-Rs, and don't vomit on controllers. Those are the twin pillars of my gaming correctness.

Honestly though, I've had DracX crash at that same point a couple of times, and my copy is legit. Shit just happens, I guess. If its happening to you that often though you probably barfed all over your lens or something.

You can troubleshoot whether it's the controller or not by trying another game.

you know, I'll tell you what the problem is. ....drum roll.....the controller Cord!!! Yep, you need to go to tzd and get a replacement cord. er.. .uh.. maybe. haha. thats what my problem was, lol. I had that same problem on my turbo grafx pad. I switched the cord and it performed flawlessly

My money is on the controller. Puke + controller PCB = bad stuff. I had a controller with a faulty turbo switch on button II that caused all sorts of problems.

My copy of Rondo of Blood only crashed on me once (legit copy), and it's probably the only game I've ever had crash on me. It was while I was on a raft to a secret exit to stage 4' or something. It went to switch scenes and never recovered. But that doesn't sound like the issue you're having at all.

oh ya, It can be the turbo switch as well. I opened up a controller and bent the metal legs on the turbo switch so that I was sure that it was making contact. If it doesn't make contact, your button will not work. Why the legs get out of shape, I don't know. Maybe too much throwing them on and off, haha.

I'm always scared when I buy shit online that arrives with strange stains and/or residue on it. Like, clean your fucking shit before you send it to me.

I'm always extra careful that anything I send out is devoid of strange matter. I figure that type of stuff is not the kind of "freebie" a fellow gamer wants or needs.

That's interesting because I am at this very moment soaking the PCE controller you sent me in my kitchen sink. :)

That's only because I make special exceptions for personal friends, Chad.

I've had the dirtiest experiences when buying from New York. First I bought Final Fantasy III for SNES and a page in the instruction manual had like macoroni and cheese stuck to it! Next I bought a couple of SNES controllers for cheap and when they came in the mail, one of them had blaps of cocoa over it! I mean, how lazy and stupid are you to not clean that shit up before sending it!? I'm pretty sure is one or two other dirty things I've received, but I can't think of them. My brother bought a Technics record player from New York once and the plastic covering was broken off and really scratched up. I hate New York.

I'm from New York, where did you order that shit from exactly Keranu?  Most of the video game places around the city have clean stuff, but its very expensive so I never would even buy it, way overpriced usually.  Anything an hour north of the city is upstate, and they are a bunch of shitheels.
