Is there any need to recap a DUO-R?

I opened up my newly aquired PCE DUO-R today in order to recap it since I always do it on all my consoles. There's nothing wrong with it, everything is working as it should and I get an excellent picture (its RGB modded).

But then I noticed that all caps in it (all looking perfectly fine) are of a known good capacitor brand (Rubycon and Nichicon) so I'm having second thoughts as to if there's a need to replace them after all. What do you think?

The Duo-R's are generally quite good and often don't need a recap. Of course the day will come when it will be necessary but for all you know the existing caps may last for many years to come.

Even doujindance (the guy who sells re-furbished Duo's on eBay) doesn't bother with recapping Duo-R's. Everyone seems to think he does, but he doesn't, he just fits a new CD lens.

So in short, if everything is working fine I wouldn't bother with it, why fix something that isn't broken.

Well I I agree with you since the existing caps are of one of the best Japanese brand.

To prevent a cap taking something else with it (like a memory chip which is hard to diagnose and find or line corrosion if it leaks) when it goes bad I suppose.

That's true, re preventing further damage via leaking caps, but I'm guessing this is a system that will see some use so you will know if the caps start to fail.

Either way, it's rare for the Duo-R's and RX's to require a recap. For the original Duos and Super CD-ROMS it does seem pretty much mandatory though.

Yes I totally agree for the DUOs and maybe all the rest.
