Here's a fact I discovered recenty....

I have this complete IFU30 set (IFU30+White PCE+white cdrom2) and at some point I modded the white pcengine to give RGB out (removed the RF modulator and installed an 8-din socket with an amplifier inside the console). The console is working fine on its own giving excellent picture and sound throught the 8-din socket.
When I have it on the ifu30 with the cdrom2 I still get picture throught the 8-din but the cd audio sound does not come through the 8-din (on the pce console).

Ofcourse someone should expect that (I did too at first) but when I swap the white PCE with a Core II console which is also RGB moded the same way (this one has a DIN socket by factory only giving sound and composite signals, so I modded it to have all RGB signals there too, replaced the DIN with an 8-din so I can have enough pins) the audio CD tracks sound is present.

That got me thinking as to why that is (not present on the white pce and present on the core II) and I also tried a black TG16 that I have modded the same way with the american cdrom2 unit but taking the signals from the console itself and not the composite and audio RCA from the black cd interface. Same thing.... no audio cd sound from that one too.

So there has to be something with the consoles that have RF from factory.

Does anyone know why that is and if there is a mod I can do to make it give cd audio from the 8-din i installed like the Core II does?

We discussed that some time ago here.

I brought up the old info about that only CoreGrafx and CoreGrafx II took in audio to it's standard DIN socket from the IFU, this turned up wrong, as when I tested it with an unmodded white PCE, it came CD Audio and ADPCM threw the RF, but all (White PCE, CG1, CG2) just do it mono as there is only one pin in on the EXT connector, so taking the audio from that socket modded or not should be avoided at all costs when running in the IFU, normal game sounds get stereo on CG1 and CG2, the White PCE with RF is everything in mono.

There might be a revision (White PCE) that does not input CD Audio or ADPCM on the EXT connector but that's pretty undocumented, actually we haven't look into what pin is inputing the audio at all.

So take the audio from the RCA on the IFU if you want stereo from all three audio sources.

Should be noted that the IFU is filled with components, and nearly all is for mixing audio.

As you are from PAL territory maybe this might be of interest.

Thank you for all the info, they were very enlightening. And yes here in Europe the tvs all support RGB as long as it ends up in a scart jack. Unfortunately I will need to modify the ifu30 too and  make another cable specificly for it....
