After having Thesteve recap and put a new screen into my Gt, and Duo-r adding a lithium battery mod and replacing the control contacts, I finally got the chance to finish off the "ultimate Turbo portable" thanks to Turbokon. Turbo addes a controller port to my GT, and more importantly a component video out board. I can now use my GT as a portable with a large screen and long battery life, or as full blown turbografx with near RGB quality anywhere I go without the need for bulky hardware.  The picture I have included is my GT hooked up to my father in laws 60" plasma TV. The colors are a tad off, but it turns out its the Tv's settings and i'm not allowed to screw with them LOL.  Otherwise, the pictures scales nice and looks clear.  Add a controller and you got gaming goodness. I want to thank Turbo for the mod, its well worth it :)

Thanks for letting me do component video mod on your GT:)

The "A" should be a little yellow. Looks like you need a little adjustment either on the component video board itself or the TV set.

Like i said, i'm sure its the tv set. Its not my set however so i'm not allowed to mess with it. My daughter watches spongebob on his set from time to time and he looks alittle green. i'm sure if i could correct it, it would look fine :)

So your GT got sent around to 3 different people, eh? Poor thing. Heh. How much have you spent in total, with shipping, etc. ?? Well, enjoy and good to see another modern TV that supports 240p via YPbPr Component.

Mike already told me to switch after i showed him the pic. I really need to take another pic with correct aspect ratio.

My father in law has two tv's, one plasma and one lcd. I have an lcd as well. All three support 240p, It must be common as my father in laws tv's are brand new.

Psycho Punch

Pretty neat, I'm jealous! Now we only need a CDROM2 mod for the expresso.

Herc, what band are the TV's? Keithcourage had the opposite problem, most TV's he tried the component video modded tg16 on didn't work. I have two sony Bravia's and they work flawlessly.

My father in laws tv's are panasonic (plasma) and dynex (lcd). My tv is a 2009 samsung. I believe the panasonic is 2012 and the dynex is 2011. so not exactly brand new mind you, but more than recent enough to be accurate.

The Samsung supporting 240p makes sense, I have a 19" LCD one that does, though it has some issues with SNES 240p (waviness). I haven't tried a TurboDuo signal on it though. But yeah, I noticed Samsung continues to support 240p. The 26" Sanyo LCD that is my desktop monitor demands 480i minimum however, so 240p fails... It's too bad cause this TV has every connection ever made, right up to HDMI: RF, Composite, S-Video, Component, VGA, and 2 HDMI, etc.

I wouldn't say that it's common. The standard is to demand 480i minimum on the green Luma/Y jack when it comes to a Component signal, while 240p is still acceptable via Composite/S-Video. The last Black Friday sale, I bought 2 19" LCD TVs because I wanted one for mod testing (with 240p), but none worked, so I returned them. I think one was a Dynex, but I can't remember. I should've made a note of them.

Anyway, this mod for the TurboExpress is great for other reasons too: I'd like to do it also because you'd be able to walk into the store with it, quickly hook up the Luma jack to a display model of a TV you might like, and boom, check right there if 240p is supported! I bought one, opened it, tested it, no good, took it back, bought another, repeat, etc. Don't wanna have to resort to that when I go for a big screen plasma after my current CRT TV (for my entertainment center) breaks down.

P.S. - Oh, so you don't wanna mention how much you spent in total for modding ?? ;)

HercTNT

I honestly don't remember how much I spent. The GT was a present from my wife and my best friend a few years ago. I had it modded out slowly over the last two years to get the most of it and i play it all the time.

My point on the tv sets were that they were three different brands and not that old. I wonder how many people on average are sitting on brand new sets. If i can plug it into three separate tv's and get it to work then the mod should be doable by most people.
