I can't vote as I've only played Macross 2036.  I love it, though it's unlike most other horizontal PCE shooters I've played.

I've heard amazing things about Scrambled Valkyrie, though. Can't wait to try it out.

lol i love how SV is clearly better, hands down, but 2036 is still winning XD

Scramble Valkyrie. I remember I had a high school friend that pre-ordered/bought this game for $200 shipped from Japan when it was originally sold.  The guy was crazy...at one point, he would barely eat so he could buy games.  Thanks to him, I was able to play a lot of newly released Japanese games back then.

So you're not trying to pair up fairly matched titles? Are you just fishing for fanboyism with the poll spamming?
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Yes and no.  Both these games are decent.  And they're both based on the Macross series.  I just think it's funny.

I played Macross 2036 before playing SV. SV impressed me, visually, and I used to think it was a much better game. But honestly, after having given it a good play through - Macross 2036 just ended up being the more enjoyable game. The bosses are better in PCE game. The cinemas are a nice touch as well. I love the scenario of the stages of the PCE one as well. It's just a shame that Macross 2036 isn't a SuperCD game. It's a great game, but a little more polish and on SuperCD format, it could have been incredible. The SV, having gotten over the visuals - it more flash than substance IMO. It's not a bad game, but SV is overrated.

Agreed that Scrambled Valkyrie is a tad overrated but it's still hella cool. 2036 has nicely colored anime intro, a nice soundtrack, and more than a few similarities with UN Squadron (Area 88). With that said I still can't choose.

FraGMarE

In terms of graphics, I'd say these games are pretty much on par with each other.  They're both beautifully drawn games, really.  2036 gets a bonus for the sweet cinemas.  I'd have to give it to 2036 in the sound department.  The redbook soundtrack and ADPCM samples are tough to beat.  When it comes to gameplay, which is what counts, I'd have to go with Scrambled Valkyrie.  Both games control just fine and are responsive, but SV just seems more action-packed.  And I don't think the disparity is based on technical limitations either, but rather how the developers chose to pace each respective game.

awack

Two awesome games, I agree with Fragmare, visually I find them pretty close, player, enemies and bosses, look a lot better in 2036 to me, level three with its great line scrolling, four layer overlapping parallax scrolling and reflections in the ice  is just awesome. Really nice cutscenes, 2036 also in my opinion has much better music and soundfx, and that's saying a lot because SV has some of the best sound Ive ever heard in a shooter....SV on the other hand has higher color counts and makes really good use of rotation, scaling and transparencies and this isn't always the case but SV does a good job at incorporating these fx into the visuals.

Macross 2036 has the missile salvo and as far as I know, Sv doesn't, that in it self makes 2036 the better Macross game,

FraGMarE

Ah crap, it occurred to me, i should have put Adroid Assault/Bari-Arm for the Sega-CD in here.  It's about the closest thing to a Macross game on the Genesis/SegaCD.  Lol it even has the huge missile salvo thing as a weapon.

Yeah, Android Assault is basically Gate of Thunder crossed with Lightening Force.
