How would I fare with this game if I only had small bursts of time to dedicate to it? I mostly play arcade games these days because I'm so time strapped but the game looks really good.

I am in your boat and have the game. I've put probably 10 hours in the two weeks I've had it into this game, and it's a slow go. It's easy to save mostly anywhere to stop and start, and it's pretty well documented within itself for remembering where you picked up. There is a lot that can be accomplished with under 20 minutes played in a single session, and the startup and get into action time is pretty short. I'd say if you like JRPGs and dont have a lot of time, but want to grind on a game off an on, this is a good candidate. I usually pick it up before I go to bed, and play for about 30 minutes completing a quest or two.

Thanks for that detail, sounds like it might be something I'll get after the holidays then.

Just started the game finally it did take about two weeks to get here.I really have to relearn the game, since i never got around to completing the first one.I downloaded the basic data pack since i wasn't sure about having enough internal memory. For it's graphics i think there fine nothing to special from what i've seen.I don't get the complaints i've heard for the voicing acting,it works though it's lip syncing is off a bit at least. Now it's online multiplayer left me confused for it how works at all.

Installing all the data packs, while resource heavy, really does enhance the load times significantly.  Graphically, the character models are somewhat rough around the edges, but the vast landscapes rendered at a consistent 30fps are something of a technical marvel on a system like the Wii U.  The biggest trade-off is all the pop-in, but I've never been bothered by that.

I also think the voice-acting is handled really well.  The problem is in the sound mixing.  Some scenes are fine, but in others it's like trying to talk to someone at a rock concert.  If anything needs to be patched, that's definitely it.

The online is very different, but it's less complicated than you may think.  Honestly, it can mostly be ignored if you want.  I've been joining missions here and there, but mostly I just stick to the main game.

Ya'll gonna hate me but I returned my Limited Edition of this to Best Buy today.  I finished the first game just barely and I'm not sure I will ever play this one, so I'd rather have my $80 back.

Nah.  Better to get your money back and use it on something you enjoy rather than forcing yourself to "like" it.  I can completely understand why people wouldn't go crazy for it like I do, as there are plenty of valid criticisms.

No shame in that it's not for every body in terms of a rpg.How i see it if you enjoy the first one then it's great,if you didn't then you will be disappointed.

I don't have that much time either but I can play for short bursts.  Some missions can be done around an hour once you know how and where you can fast travel.

I am stuck on a lin affinity mission "the repair job", I've explored like crazy and can't find any of the items requested, and the follow orb does not send me to any specific spot :/

I've gotten my levels up to about 14, and have revealed about 20% of primordia. I've gotten a lot of the blue and green quests done, this will be the first yellow quest I've attempted and it was going well until I got to the need to repair something stage where I gather supplies :/ The vague directions make it a bit confusing. I attempted to start the next story mission step, but it doesn't allow me with an active affinity mission.

I will be playing it more and more over the next few days, as time away from work increases :)

Update:

After four 30 min to 1 hour play sessions later, I have not completed "The Repair Job" and I believe this is a notorious quest, if the reviews I've recently started reading and watching are any indicator. All of the reviews say how "some quests require you to fetch collectibles, which aren't indicated as to how except for the continent they're on" which is my exact blockage right now.

I am going to keep at it, because it's still fun to grind and explore, but I am certainly blocked by this quest still, and probably will be for the rest of the year :/

I was stuck on that quest for awhile. Then i check the index and i found out what enemy drop the item i was looking for it didn't take long to complete the mission either.Often, basic mission or affinity there are just mostly fetch quest for npc like in the original.I'm in the middle of having to completing a affinity mission to unlock the game next chapter.

Am I the only one who is hopelessly addicted to this game? I can't remember a time where I got this obsessed with a game before. I have almost 35 hours into it, and just hit level 25. I haven't gotten my scale yet, but hope I get the quest soon.

I'd love to hear some spoiler free updates to people's openions. This one is a slow burn for me, with the enjoyment only increasing as I put more time in.

Sounds and looks awesome! Sucks to be backlogged. :/ I loved Xenogears and bought the first 2 Xenosaga PS2 titles, but those are on the backlog and I need to pick up the third one as well some time.

I also loved the original Xenogears so much, but really did not care for Xenosaga. I skipped 2 and 3, and picked up Xenoblade Chronicles on wii and adored it. I think these games very barely relate to gears/saga, they hardly relate to each other outside of the similarities in the anecdotal race robots and combat system.

I would highly recommend picking Chronicles X up if you don't care for a story and want to see what the combat and world are all about, and if you enjoy it go back to the original. I think the original is the better game, but the graphical presentation and refined combat of Chronicles makes it almost an easier entry point than the first one, which has gritty graphics in comparison due to platform differences - I certainly enjoy the first game's art design as much if not more.

Join us sir! Plenty of room on this tiny bandwagon!

Well on Friday night I got my first skell, and apparently have over built my wallet expecting to not be afford to buy a skell, and ended up having enough money to buy one of each skell and try them all out.

My favorite is the most exspensive light weight frame - the attack with the sword seams to one hit most monsters that are not huge, or are lower level than me.

Getting my skell did what most reviews has said, and set fourth a new era of addiction to this game. Being able to quickly escape combat by driving away - and the increased jump range - has encouraged me to explore and reveal most of the first 3 continents.

The added damage I do makes me try my hand at various higher level beings, and it's crazy how much more I can take on. I took out a level 50 mob while I was still 34 yesterday - it was mind blowing.

I've been putting lower level characters in my party and grinding them up to level 30 to allow them to use skells, but it's so fast to level them up with the power of the skells that it now feels easy to get characters to a powerful state fast.

This is the game that just keeps on giving, 60 hours in now, easily the most I've played a wii u game and probably the most I've put into a current generation game. What a blast, thanks  Monolith and Nintendo for giving us this experience :)

Half way point for me.Completed chapter 8 recently and the mission to get the flight module, reached areas that i couldn't before. It seems light skell use less fuel but weaker defense.Heavy skells better defense but use more fuel instead. This point in the game for me the difficulty really ramps up.I changed class recently, try a different attack for a change.

That's a steal for this game. This is in the top 20 lifetime "most played" list - it's draining my free time every day - and I am loving it still. Just finished mission 8 last night, and the fun keeps rolling.

glazball

Yea I see what you guys were saying about the small text!  We wanted 1080p games, and now we've got em, fine print and all!  It's really not too bad though, but there is a lot to take in.  It will take me a while to really get comfortable with all the numbers/bars/icons/etc.

I didn't get to spend much time last night with it, but I agree it does strongly resemble Star Ocean.  It does give me pause to think that (if true) this game is bigger than Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 combined (I just finished FO4 and it took me months to finish).  I'm worried I might get burned out.  Such a timesink and I know I'll never see a lot of the content even if I put in 200 hours.

To make matters worse this game is 720p, just poorly designed UI - must look fine while sitting at a desk but from a couch it sucks.

I am at 80 hrs (20 has to be from idle, I fall asleep playing this game every night, and have left it on while cooking dinner etc often) and just hit 8/12 on the missions, I can imagine I'll hit at least 120 if I finish this game, if not 200. Fun, but certainly a time sink

SkyeWelse

I'm also playing Xenoblade Chronicles X and I'm loving it so far. I just wish I had more time to play it! That and my wife tends to hog the Wii U for to participate in squad-based Splatoon battles daily. I've never seen such an addition to a video game before! Oh wait, that was me with Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls II...

I just watched that video explaining how large the world of Mira is in comparison to Skyrim, Fallout 4 and Witcher. That's a really impressive size! 4 times the size of San Francisco!

I'm still enjoying the game, but I've stalled again for the first time since the collection affinity quest (repair job) I got stuck on.

The characters that have affinity quests still available have very low affinity with me, because I mostly use Lin and Elma, and then I raised Doug and a couple others, but there are so many characters that require 3+ hearts of affinity to do their missions, but I have less than a heart of affinity with them, I've just been doing basic quests (Boring and repetitive) to try to raise their affinity.

Is there a faster way to raise affinity?

Also, I've been better about placing mining probes and getting miranium, so now I am constantly maxxed out on miranium (~20k) I have all my storage probes placed and linked, so that's the max I can harvest. I also have all of my money/resource/research probes linked efficiently, getting about 50k credits every time it ticks.

What do I do with all the miranium? I've been dumping it into random arms dealers, but have no idea which to focus on and which to bolster/ take to the end game. What arms dealers are you guys using, and why? I change class whenever it maxes to 10, but I hardly every fight without my skell now so it seems like character class matters significantly less.

I have the top line, and the bottom line, maxed out and need to change class next time I play, not sure which to pick next - probably a high def class, since I have a high dmg, and a healing/debuff class, maxxed and available.

Yep, I've searched the nets and the consensus appears to be grind basic missions. Also, soul voices increase affinity so some people suggested grinding on low damage mobs with weak weapons and high potential (which increases chances of soul voices occurring.)

I might just move on, the grind is kinda tedious. I just want to get my flight module, and haven't figured that out yet - no spoilers please! ;)

I haven't even seen the fifth continent yet, barely scractched Sylvalum, what a game.

Friggen DOUG... hahaha I had some friends from highscool visit last weekend, they were going to a wedding in town and I offered to let them stay at my place. We used to play JRPGs on together late highschool early college days, so I was excited to show off Xenoblade Chronicles X to them. While playing the game Doug's affinity buildup was my focus, and they kept asking "who is this Doug guy, and why is he always dead" and he became a running joke for the weekend. I just got a text yesterday from one of them "is doug dead" hahaha

Soul voices seem pretty straight forward once you have a few classes available, but it's a lot of work to setup. Basically when you use a art , there is a chance that art will trigger a soul voice of that color. The chance to trigger is based off the potential stat. If you trigger a soul voice, the quick time event occurs, and if you're successful there is a bonus associated to the soul voice and your team recovers some HP. When setting up soul voices you want to select ones that you have available - so if you don't have any blue arts you do not want a blue soul voice set because you wont be able to trigger it. What's weird and kinda confusing is that your soul voices are based on party member arts, so if you use a orange art, and the party member has a orange soul voice setup. Basically, match soul voices with the colors of the arts of all of your team members, so that when you're using arts you have a chance to trigger a soul voice. Also, some soul voices bonus's are really great, some are kinda worthless, so just check them and make sure you have the beneficial and potentially trigger able soul voices selected to match your arts selected for each character in your party.

I spend a lot of time in the menus trying to wrap my thick skull around this game's systems, and am not sure I even have this correct so I hope a smart person can clarify if I am wrong ahahah
