Hello all,

New to the group and I am a collector of games mostly to play. I own about 10 different consoles, but unfortunately not a TurboGrafx which has been on my to purchase list for a while. This forum has been recommended by many YouTubers that do TurboGrafx reviews so I thought I can get my system fix here before I go to eBay or others.

I don't really want anything fancy or moded or anything. Just a plain ol original TurboGrafx 16 with a controller maybe a game as I can try and find a game elsewhere for cheap. Don't got tons of $$$ to spend on a huge lot or the duo. Gotta walk before I crawl right?

Welcome to the forums! We are a special bunch here....as you will find. I personally do not have anything I am willing to sell at the moment...besides MVS carts....but I am sure someone here can assist you.

Make sure to pick up Prince of Persia as soon as you can.

Just my $.02, but you should get a pc engine duo.  You are going to want to play the CD games at some point and you don't want to try and get a CD player and dock down the road.  If you say you can live without the CD games for now, take a harder look at the pc engine CD rom games.  Most of my pc engine collection is super cdrom games.

Even in a situation where you just want to start on hucards (because money I would assume is the main reason), Core Grafx >>>>>> US Turbo Grafx 16. The Japanese library is where most of the action is anyway plus composite out of the box. Everdrive plays fine on both so that's not an issue either.

Getting CD compatibility out of the gate is a nice option though and if OP can save up a little bit more, I'd recommend that route as well.

Hey everyone,

Good advice much appreciated. So it looks like getting a Japanese console with CD is probably the way to go? Is there a way to play American cards on them?

I wasn't looking to spend a bunch but if someone has one for sale at a reasonable price I may consider purchasing.

I sent you a pm. You can check that. I quoted my prices with no mods, and with. Or shop around. :)

Welcome aboard!

There's lots of fun to be had with just hueys, but I'd get a PCE core system or save towards a PCE Duo (any version if it's been refurbished).  The TG-16 is a pricey option, not just the systems cost but also peripherals; it uses a different connector for controllers, so you'll either need to buy less common and generally more expensive TG-16 pads (and tap) or a bunch of converters so you can use PCE pads.  You'd have to get it modded to play US games, of course, but you'd have to mod the TG-16 system to play PCE games too; alternatively, you could get a converter (not worth the hassle IMO) or an Everdrive (best option).

I too have been looking for a TurboDuo/PCDuo but have had trouble finding one locally that isn't horribly overpriced. From what I've read both here and on a few blogs it appears that the Japanese PC Engine Duo is the way to go. If anyone has one they'd like to sell or has a recommendation for one I would really appreciate it.

With the number of great modders today IMO the TG-16 CD or PC Engine with super CD 2 attachment are great options provided you have them region modded/have someone who you trust that worked on it. Personally I love using all of them except the briefcase setup but mine has never been that reliable so.

NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)
BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere. You can't tell most retro gamers anything!
