Sup peeps? So very happy find while out of town on a yard sale jaunt with friends / fam this holiday weekend!

I was digging though a box of old electronics (old tape decks, some spool to spool stuff, you get the idea) and this was near the bottom with a few wraps of packing tape around it (as i discovered later there were no screws holding it together). Im doing my best trying to keep a straight and cool face and ask the lady overseeing the area what the cost was. She asked me where i got it and i pointed out the box it was in. "Oh that stuff, got no idea what all of it is but the big pieces are $20 each and bits an bobs are 3 for $5" "oh so just $20 for this then?" (Im like dancing inside my head here) I hurredly pull a $20 from my wallet and hand it over at the same time asking if she knew if there were any more parts to it. Sadly not, so no PSU, controller, and hell, dont even know if she boots, but for $20 I decided to take the chance.

After getting the tape and crap off of it and crap off of it, she looks pretty good inside:

I did notice that the stabilizer pegs that the cd drive sits on were broken, at least 2 anyway...maybe i can fab a 3d print replacement later

The gear assembly looks like its in good shape

The area under the drive and backside of the board look to be in good condition as well

So far i dont see any "obvious" issues, but sight alone doesnt mean for jack as im kinda out of my league for exp on these units. So aside from trying to source cables and a psu, is there anything i should look for specifically, or just order anyway and plan to replace? Id love to have an actual working cd based unit to play some games from. Advice? Thoughts? Words of vile hatred for a $20 DuoR?  I really havent (shamefully) dabbled much with any NEC stuff in the last couple years (life crap, its boring) but I think this system might give me good incentive to change that :D

All the ports should be re-soldered. Meaning the AV, Power, and controller port pins. All of these pin connections crack overtime and simply reflowing some new solder to the pins takes care of the problem.

Also, if you want to replace those broken CD assembly pegs then you should use some screws. Simply drill a small hole where the white peg used to be and then put a screw in its place from underneath the system. I'm about to do this to a DUO-R so I'll post a pic once I get to it.

Nice find :) I've had a few Duo-R over the years they've all been solid only issues I've had have surrounded cd reading, if you have any issues just search these awesome forums for the cd pot adjustment thread .
