Now that I got my NEX, I'm Going to start yet another console collection. I'm open to other suggestions, but I'm going to be cheap with this one; so nothing like the Marty, PCFX or Zemmix.

Tatsujin

now that's for sure one real difficult pick up

PCE Games countdown: 690/737 (47 to go or 93.6% clear)
PCE Shmups countdown: 111/111 (all clear!!)
Sega does what Nintendon't, but only NEC does better than both together!^^
<Senshi> Tat's i'm going to contact the people of Hard Off and open a store stateside..

I recommend the 3DO FZ-1.  The thing is a beast and very well built.  I picked up mine in a dusty pawn shop for $30.  It was in beautiful shape and has given me zero problems.

My vote's for the 3DO, so you actually play something worthwhile.  The CD32 ain't bad either, but I don't think that it would be any cheaper than a PC-FX.
Ultimate Forum Bully/Thief/Saboteur/Clone Warrior! BURN IN HELL NECROPHUCK!!!

It depends.
Definitely not the CDi for me.
The Zelda games are very mediocre on this.
The CDi might only be worthwhile if you like some sub standard myst type of game.
I guess it had 11th hour or 7th guest released on it??
Chaos control is a light cursor shooter on it but i have it on saturn but it isn't worth buying the console for in my book.

On the jaguar tempest 2000 is a must have! (that's if you like games like Rez and amplitude).
It's some sort of hypnotic music shooter and reminds me a bit of space invaders.
Alien vs predator was very hyped on it at the time and is OK ish.
Iron soldier isn't to bad as a 3D mech game but cybermorph is very primitive and was laughable last time i played it.
It has a good version of Wolfenstein to!

The 3DO might be the best overall choice as it has crash n' burn, alone in the dark (which is for some almost unplayable but has very deep puzzles),a near identical version as the arcade Samurai shodown, the first need for speed (which was and still is great but might be a bit better on psone), road rash (also on psone), return fire, total eclipse... and some good (slow paced) adventures like Dragon Lore and Lost Eden which had great graphics for it's time.
But it doesn't really have a title that really stands out in my opinion.

With the CD32 the alien breed series springs to my mind and isn't bad (there's also a 3D version of this game which is very primitive now) but most of the better games were also released for the amiga 500, but of course it's easier to load it on a CD32.

The 7800 has a lot of updated and better versions of the 2600 games and that's really all i know of it.

Feels great sometimes sharing my knowledge and passion. :D

Are there any particular games you like or want to get hold of on the various systems?
I'm always open to learn more. :)

You just listed the worst consoles in the history of time. Why would you want either of those?
Quote from: Seldane on 04/21/2007, 07:28 PMDVDs are for suckers. Illegally pirated and stolen videos all the way. No menus. No "DO NOT PIRATE THIS!" screens. No fuss. Only perfection. I honestly only pirate movies because that "don't pirate this" screen annoys me.

Might be true in some extent...
But that what makes it somewhat intresting, (in the case you allready own all the greatest consoles) to find the underrated or forgotten titles, the search for a gem and that wouldn't ask for hard cash in most cases.

GUTS

3do actually has quite a few really good games if you search around.  There are some great computer style adventure games and a couple decent RPGs (hell it's worth owning a 3do just for Guardian War, it's a great strategy RPG), plus a few really tight shooters and just plain weird early CD games that are totally interesting (like Burn: Cycle and Iron Angel 2).  The best thing about 3do is that there are hundreds of games plus all these obscure imports that make it really fun to collect for, I've had one for like 10 years now and I still come across games I've never heard of.

Keranu

I voted CD-i just to give it some love, but 3DO is really the best choice out of those. Despite how it's made out by the typical ignorant game journalists, it's a pretty cool system. As GUTS said, there are lots of games for it and it's not very expensive to collect for.
Quote from: TurboXray on 01/02/2014, 09:21 PMAdding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

At least the CD32 has some nice Amiga games. Amiga rules. Too bad they didn't realease the best (or even the good) Amiga games for it.

As long as you get one of the best games ever made - Plumbers Don't Wear Ties - then you should go for the 3DO.

Speedball 2 came out for it. Pity that Uridium 2 didn't.

I like the Jag; but only really for Tempest 2000, although I do enjoy Defender 2000 more than I should.
I'm the sort of person willing to buy a console to play one game on though.

Turbo D

I voted cd-i. Seriously dude, owning that machine is owning history. That system is the super nintendo cd! I have always wanted one, maybe I'll pick one up sometime in the near future.
Quote from: MissaFX on 01/06/2008, 12:10 PMMy idea of gaming is a couple of friends over, a couple of drinks, a couple of medical-handrolled-game-enhancing-cigs and a glowing box you all worship.

Go for the 3DO. If you decide to stop playing alright 2D games, mediocre 3D games, shit FMV fests, and softcore porn, you can play Kodak PhotoCDs you burn on your computer, y'know burn the GOOD stuff.
Forgive me, my brain is on par with the Bubble System.

Thanks for the suggestions. I never knew there was so much 3D0 love!  :-k

I also forgot one option: the Nuon. There's only 12 games for it, so I could have a 'complete' collection relatively quickly! ;)

I also know the Nintendo CD-i games are crap, but I kinda wanted to see just how crappy in person.

I was pretty much going to go ahead and get a 7800 regardless of what you said (partly because I'm sitting on a bunch of 2600 carts I can't play) but now you've got me pumped about the 3D0 :)

Regarding the NUON, I wouldn't bother. The only things going for the NUON are IMO:

1. Tempest 3000 (which is alright, but has the shitty remastered Tempest 2000 tracks as heard on the Tempest 2000 OST CD. The actual in-game MODs are better).

2. The VLM2 (which is made by the same guy behind T2K/T3K. No faults with this; it's trippy!)

3. If you get the N2000, you can play MP3s.

Other than that, it's just a DVD player. You could get a Jag and T2K and be MUCH better off.

Also, about the CD32; WTF would you want a crippled Amiga when you could just get an actual A4000 and have access to ALL the games and a damn good computer to boot?
Forgive me, my brain is on par with the Bubble System.

3DO was my second choice.  Off the top of my head, the games that make it worth it, are Lucienne's Quest, Guardian War, Ice Breaker, Cyberdillo, The Horde, Insector War, Wolfenstein(if only for the redone music!), Snow Job(wish I had kept it, reminds me of JB Harold), Captain Quazar, Battlesport, Out of this World, PO'ed, Return Fire, Road Rash, Trip'D, Syndicate.  I think there's some others that I love on it, but, those are the first to come to mind.

My first choice was Jaguar, there's alot of underdog games on it, that are great!  And if they ever finish Native, that's gonna be one hell of a good looking 2D R-typeesque shooter!  As for what I like on it, welll....
Alien vs. Predator, Atari Karts, Attack of the Mutant Penguins, Battlemorph, Breakout 2000, Brutal Sports Football, Cannon Fodder, Club Drive, Defender 2000, Evolution Dino Dudes, Flip Out, Hover Strike CD, Hyper Force, Iron Soldier, Iron Soldier 2 CD, I-War, Missile Command, Painter, Pinball Fantasies, Pitfall, Power Drive Rally, Protector, Protector SE, Raiden, Skyhammer, Soccer Kid, Super Burn Out, Tempest 2000, Zero 5, Zool 2.  Those are the games I own, that I love, but, that's just MHO.

At some point a few years back i wanted a CDi system but now i don't see it as a REAL GAMING machine.
Oh well, not saying i would never buy it.
