I don't know what part of what country you guys tend to be from, but up here in New England there's a pretty popular beverage company called Polar. They make a "draft style" root beer which has a slight bitterness that makes it one of the very best!
Oh, and if I wanted to spend like $3.00 on a 12oz bottle, I could sometimes go for "Rat Bastard" root beer, courtesy of Skeleteens USA.

Never heard of those, but it sounds like you are talking ab00t some serious root beer there and I am dying to try those now!

As posted before, my favorite root beer is good old Dog n' Suds in the glass bottle

. Barq's is great too, probably my second favorite, but so far nothing has topped Dog n' Suds.

I thought we were talking about midnight snacks, not just root beer.

When it comes to midnight snacks, I usually go for a nice Turkey & Swiss sandwich and wash it down with a smooth root beer.

Yeah, I drink root beer too. The only ones I ever had were A & W, Barqs and President's Choice. They're all really good.

The only problem with Chef Boyardee is that it's loaded with MSG and other nasty crap. Most sodas are filled with high fructose corn syrup. Gah.

I've also taken a liking to the bitter draught style rootbeers. I've found there's a Micro-brewery in Michigan that also brews (??) their own root beers. I got my first slap in the tongue when I found out that rootbeer is supposed to have a bitterness to it.

Mmmm Chef Boyardee. The only thing better is Dinty Moore beef stew in the can. The coagulated fat on top of everything should indicate how yummy it is...

Give Jones Soda a try - they have a tasty root beer, and their berry lemonade is scrumtrulescent. Best of all, no corn syrup. All of their stuff is now made with cane sugar (still tastes the same to me though).

Last night, as a midnight snack (well, 1:30am snack), I had tofu sauteed with jalapenos and capers, along with a gallon of PATHMARK NO FRILLS PINEAPPLE SODA.

Actually, I just had Diet Coke. But my friend loved to drink Pineapple Soda when we were kids. It was an obsession of sorts. I don't know if Pathmark (a supermarket chain in northeast, maybe elsewhere as well?) still makes the stuff, but I wasn't the biggest fan of it. I am pretty sure it gave me headaches!

Dude, Super Chill Pineapple pop is like my all time favorite drink. That stuff is amazing. I've tried other brands, but nothing matches Super Chill! The amazing thing is that the title is completely true; there is an incredible sense of chill to the drink!

I never was a midnight snack person. If I wake up in the middle of the night, my first priority is to return to sleep. But If I'm awake still and it's the middle of the night, and I'm also crapulent and hungry, my old fav is to hit Amigo's for a couple soft tacos, some mexi-fries, some ranch dressing and a big-ass frosty mug'o'A&W. I once believed it healed my drunken brain before I could get a hangover.

If you're gonna go IBC then it's gotta be Black Cherry, that stuff just sings to me. Although it's a killer with a whopping 52g of sugar (!) I must be getting old, as I don't enjoy soda nearly as much as I used to.

Midnight snacks for me are usually a PB & honey sammich and some water. Gotta keep it light before going to bed you know.

so, when I'm lucky, I have a young coconut as a midnight snack (just now!). Heavenly. Except when I get bits of the coconut shell in there. That sucks. I'm not the most skilled person when it comes to opening them: I just hack away with a butcher's knife + rolling pin.
