Sprint will begin offering Google Android phones next week, and Verizon will get them "in the coming weeks".

I'm excited

I can't wait until Android gets even more refined. It's certainly fun to watch the developments.

Personally, since I have Verizon, I'm actually looking forward to the Palm Pre. I hope Verizon will be offering an upgraded (hardware-wise) Pre in January.

That's not to say that I'm ignoring the Android offerings... but the Pre gets me much more excited :)

This is an interesting time... I think we will all be happy :)

Though not a Mac User, I have been using the original iPhone since a week after release. I would be hard pressed to use anything else at this point. I really dig the touchscreen, and can type faster on the keyboard than anything with buttons.

My cousin has the Android, he brought it over last week and I got a chance to use one for half an hour or so. IMHO I like the setup, but I'm not too fond of the keyboard. The OS is a little clunky, and the apps have about two years to catch up to Apple, they just dont have the support yet. Its a great all in one unit for people who really don't want a Mac. He is totally sold on it and uses it for work, etc. I know nothing about the Palm Pre.

The coolest thing I liked about the Android it was the Astronomy app, that centralizes your location by readings from 3 satellites, and then gives you a complete star chart (where you aim or point the phone) with constellations and heads up info about each of the stars. The iPhone doesn't have THAT (yet... 8-[)!

Anyway, when you get one keep us updated; I'm always interested in hearing about competing technologies.

Yeah, I think this may be the beginning of the end for 'locked-in' phones; eventually they will become more like PCs, with the networks just acting as ISPs.

I also have Verizon, and they seem like the best network from my experience. Their problem was that they didn't have any of the 'sexy' phones, like the IPhone, Palm Pre and the Android phones; Now they're going to, and I think that's to everyone's benefit.

This is great news! I am just going to have to pick my next device - a Palm device after a break of about 4 years, or Android? I think I am going to lean towards what Google offers..... =)

I would love an iPhone--my family & friends all have one. I dig my iPod Touch, which is the poor man's runner-up to an iPhone experience.

Still, even if iPhone made it to Verizon, I don't want to spend too much for mobile phone + data plan (my wife and I have a ridiculously low plan, subsidized by her employer).

I'm hoping that I can get a Pre without a data plan and just use wifi (I have access to wifi at home and work).

Yeah, I've tried tons of phones that Verizon has offered over the last few years (friends')... and none of them were compelling enough to make me turn in my ancient phone (3+ years?).

Probably wont let you buy it without a data plan.  I know AT&T wouldnt do that for the Iphone.  My wife and I got them when the 3G came out and I inquired about it, but they said its mandatory.  But, I wont lie, Im glad we sprang for it.  I cant imagine going back to a regular phone after this thing.  Hopefully the Android phones give Apple a run for its money.  That's what fuels development.
Another douche trying to obtain a full Turbo collection.  119/146 so far.  Got a long way to go. Half way there. Hit the 100 mark. ich bein ein obeyer

I'm still using a Motorola I got in 2005. I don't want to part with it just yet: I have Military Madness and Bonk's Return on it ;) .
