I need one or more Sony KSS-162a laser modules. These are used in the CD-ROM^2 in both the JP and US markets. Aside from the fact that the laser in my white CD-ROM^2 finally fried, I'd like to have some extras on hand for repairing other folks' systems.

On that note, if you have a dead CD-ROM^2 (either white JP or black US) unit you don't care about fixing I'll buy it off you for a small price.

These laser modules can also be found in the Sony Discman D-34 in case any of you have one laying around you want to part with.

Electronix has 'em listed for $20 each, as well as the Hop-M3 for Duos.

I was told by another source who tried to order the the KSS-162A from Electronix.com that they put his order on backorder for 9 months before deciding to inform him that they could not get any more.

For whatever reason they still haven't removed it from their web catalog.

Hi,
I just got a Hop-m3 from there just last week for a Duo that I got for 75 (CIB) and it works great.

nat

That's good, but unfortunately, the HOP-M3 and KSS-162a are not interchangable.

The laser in the US model is a sony KSS-220a, not a 162.  I took apart a couple of these units.
The Turbo was Dual Core when Dual Core wasn't cool . . .

They are one and the same. 22A was the newer revision number on the laser.
