10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

I beat it, but I never beat parts 2 through whatever as I tend to get bored with them.  I beat Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.  But honestly, other than Sonic 1 and 2, I am not a big Sonic fan.

What about Sonic CD?

Joe Redifer

Hmmm... I may have beaten it with a level select.  I am pretty pathetic when it comes to Sonic games.  They just aren't my cup o' tea.

JoshTurboTrollX

Well, I'd have to say that you having already beaten the first one, that Sonic 1 is the most difficult of the original trilogy.  Sonic 3 is easy cause of the save feature, and Sonic 2 is not too difficult.  Sonic and Knuckles is pretty damn tough if I remember correctly.
Jossshhhhh...Legendary TurboTrollX-16: He revenge-bans PCE Developers/Ys IV Localizers from PCE Facebook groups and destroyed 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Josh and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner (extortion/blackmail!), never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Raizen1984

I may have beaten the first Sonic game; like, a really long time ago.  I can't quite remember, but I used to be able to get a lot farther than I can now.

I never could beat Sonic 3.  I got as far as the Casino Zone and there is always a room you get locked in and I can't figure out how to escape.  Stumped me then, still stumps me now.

When you're on that rotating, red and white platform thingy trapped between two walls, hold down the UP and DOWN buttons to control it. I remember renting Sonic 3 when it first came out and getting stumped at the same part.

For me as well:

Sonic 1 [x----------------l------------------] all the other Sonics.

PCE Games countdown: 690/737 (47 to go or 93.6% clear)
PCE Shmups countdown: 111/111 (all clear!!)
Sega does what Nintendon't, but only NEC does better than both together!^^
<Senshi> Tat's i'm going to contact the people of Hard Off and open a store stateside..

Agree with Tats.

I agree that the save feature in part 3 kind of helps, but I think the main reason I can't beat any of the others is the giant wall of BORING that stands in my way.  I can appreciate the first one and to some degree the second one (the existence of Tails still pisses me off, though).

I also gotta say, Sonic as a platformer is simply too gimmicky for my tastes.  You just zoom around missing 80% of the level layout.

nat

Sonic overstayed his welcome (ie, all the sequels) but Sonic CD is one of the greatest platformers in existence. Yes, even better than Sonic 1.

Agree 110%. I like the other ones, but the first was the perfect gaming experience for me. One of Keranu's all time favorites.

It is impossible to agree more than 100%. I simply will not stand for it.  Please reduce your agreement to 100%.  Thank you.

I never could figure out the whole "past, present, future" thing in Sonic CD. My brain tells me to stop playing that game after about 17 minutes. I hate that because I really am trying to get into it.

Haha my dad pissed off his boss by saying something very similar recently. After the boss mentioned something about giving a 110%, my dad responded, "Well I can only give you 100% at most, and I probably won't even give you that much."

You go into the Past (which is harder than going into the Future) to destroy some weird machine hidden somewhere in the level. You can see it in the Present in its broken-down state, but you can't affect it in the Present. If you destroy them in the first two Acts, the third Act has a different look to it. Destroy all the machines in the game for an alternate ending. Also, it seems that the robot Sonic also hangs out in the Past as a hologram, which you can also destroy. I don't know the meaning of that though.
Turbo Badass Rank: Janne (6 of 12 clears)
Conquered so far: Sinistron, Violent Soldier, Tatsujin, Super Raiden, Shape Shifter, Rayxanber II

Cool! Now I can start to get around the confusing stage layouts.

Sorry, but I don't see your library card on the books of Ys.  Now, RETURN THEM TO ME!!!

Sonic was fun until Adventure. I loved the Egg-robo story, but otherwise the game was a breeze. The game was great until I kept getting messages from that god forsaken ball of light ( knuckles mom ), about stepping on ground that should have been natural functions. Then you get all these crappy upgrade. In Adventure they kept the upgrades to a minimum but in A2 they just let them hang out.

One thing every Sonic fan knows is that Robotnik is the one who augmented the areas for his robots. That is why those things are all over the place. Which made logic sense in every Sonic game until Adventure.

To make things worst, Sonic 2 on the Genesis is what prevented the Sega CD from thriving. Seriously the Sega CD was not expensive for a parent to buy, and it would have been a game changer. for Sega fans.

I actually enjoyed the original trilogy. Sonic and Knuckles, not so much. Sonic 3 and Knuckles... oh baby! =P~

Adventure, I thought was rather good. Got more play in the Chao Garden than the actual game. Adventure 2, well, I feel they tried too hard with that one. Seems to long and drawn out. Owned it since the Dreamcast release, but never got into it enough to wanna beat it.

The games for Gameboy Advance are also fun, but the special stages (even finding them) drive me bat shit crazy! ](*,)

Sonic 2's are the best of the bunch. But even in those levels they can be frustratingly difficult.
