YANDMAN

Hi once again guys

I wanted to share something with you that im really proud of doing and i hope you guys will like it also.

In the interim of eventually getting my hands on a genuine Ntsc Turbo grafx 16 I got into building custom arcade machines, I built firstly a space invaders cabinet and then an outrun 2, For someone with no experience or guidance they both came out really nice.

i was thinking about what i was gonna build next as by this stage i had already decided i was gonna have my own home arcade, i wanted to make something original and that to my knowledge had not been done before or at least not with the look i would give it......................and so yes i built a Turbo Grafx arcade machine, for the tech guys that like to know about hardware its purely emulated through magic engine, It does run on a real 20" Hantarex monitor and the controls are all seimitsu, It Plays brilliantly and the magic engine menu is all linked through the controls.

So yes here is is my Turbo Grafx 16 arcade machine

Sweet!  More pics please.  I need to see how you did up the turbo switches.
I'm busy playing pinball, but I still drop by to visit.

YANDMAN

The turbo buttons are set to two separate of the orange buttons, One medium speed, one fast speed, so you just push which ever you want

NecroPhile

Nice!  I'd rather it was using original hardware, but it still looks nice and should bring tons o' fun (and no need to open up the cab to change huey/cd).  I don't recall others building a custom dedicated Turbob cab, but there is a legitimate one from back in the day.

yes i am aware there was an official board although that was pc engine derived not an actual turbo unit, Due to it running magic engine it obviously also plays cd games, you can open the coin door to change a cd.

YANDMAN

Nope no two player, i didnt see the need, Most of the great games on the system as you know are 1 player only, its really awesome to play soldier blade and the plethora of awesome shooters on an arcade cabinet, it feels so right

Tatsujin

very very nice :D

please more pix of the device in action.

but I have to admit too, the lack of 2p. is not the best decision, especially for an arcade machine. else wise, great work :)

Building a dedicated Turbo cab is something I've been working on with the $10 Assault machine I picked up 9 months ago (yeah, it's been a long project).
Yours looks sweet.  I have a MAME cab I did that also has magic engine loaded on it, but the cab is decorated all Pac-Many.

I plan on using an actual Turbo Console in mine with a turbo stick.  Been on the look out for a small CRT that will fit, as the Assault machine is quite narrow, so I'll be stuck with a pretty small screen when it's done.  But hell, I only had a 13" when I got my first TG at launch.

These are your first posts in this forum? You're apparently going to be a great user :)

Nice cabinet. I would do something like it but I don't have the needed skills to build a custom arcade stick, let alone a full cab.

Very cool project.  I think your doing a great job on it.I think all of us would like to see actual build pictures ect.

No 5 player?  Good grief man, what's wrong with you, I want to come over with 3 of my friends & have a Bomberman or Battle Royale battle with you! :D

All seriousness aside, man, that'd be crazy to have 5 players on an arcade machine.  I suppose there were 4 player games like TMNT & Avengers, but IIRC, those cabinets were quite larger then the standard size....still, that'd be neat if someone did a 5 player cabinet someday!

In any case, nice job!

Ahh firstly thanks for everyones comments, i already feel at home in this forum, some forums for other systems are not so friendly, One person mentioned that they would like to see build pictures, thats no problem i take about fifty pictures of every arcade i build along the whole process, Perhaps ill make this topic no.3?

And to any of you guys who have thought of building an arcade machine but are put of by whats involved or having the skills, let me tell you it really isnt that difficult, I literally decided one day i was going to make one and went and bought some wood, I was shown nothing by anyone or didnt read any build blogs i just thought about it and overcame each step as i went, I dont have any space at home to build
arcades so my place of work allows me to use their premise when its closed at the weekends, so every arcade i have built ( Now 7 ) is built from scratch in two days and thats from buying the wood, To painting it and switching it on, Sure its pretty tough going like i usually do 20-24 hours straight before sleeping else it isnt going to happen but when you think that a few hours later you are taking home a brand new arcade machine that you built for yourself the feeling it gives you is incredible.......Well it is for me anyways, The enjoyment of playing it is amplified knowing you made it, If anybody wants help or to know how to get started you can message me and ill help you along the way no problems, O.k im gonna go hunt down some build photos and make a new topic yall

Dude!  That's Awesome!  So want one...

But where's the Pachinko controller? :P

YANDMAN

Ahhh the pachinko controller im glad you mentioned that, I had to canibalise parts from the pachinko controller to put into the time machine, once the time machine is built im going to go back and print 16-bit on all the cpu's in the turbo and pc engine and then people will never bitch about this awesome machine ever again :)
