No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

I've been doing some digging & I *sort of* figured out how to take PCM samples from video games & converting them to a usable format (I've been sticking with .wav for now.)

So far, I've extracted voice, sound FX, and percussion samples from Gleylancer, Vapor Trail, Skitchin, Panorama Cotton, and even Soldier Blade, to varying success.  Gleylancer went perfectly & the raw voice samples are of a very good quality, nothing like how they sound in the game.  With Vapor Trail, I focused mainly on percussion, although I did pull the titular voice sample.  Skitchin...well...that one was a little awkward.  I managed to get some guitar and voice samples, but they aren't of very good quality, so I'll likely be attempting that one again.

Panorama Cotton went okay, but I was only able to find the percussion samples (and I really wanted the pizza bong!)  Soldier Blade didn't go so well, on the other hand.  I'm mainly after the drum samples, but I'm having some trouble finding them because all the samples I could find were of absolute shit quality.  I did however get the "Alert!", "I'll be back", "I'll kill you!", and explosion sound samples.

I'm using Goldwave for sound editing, and importing the game roms as raw files.  As I said, though, this doesn't always seem to work.  I tried getting samples from Alien Soldier, for instance, and had zero success.  Anybody here have experience with this?  Anyone wanna request a game for me to take a whack at?

I'm almost positive it's chip-produced & not sampled.  Kinda reminds me of the noise the bosses in Bloody Wolf make when they die...which makes sense, seeing as how both games are by Data East.

Speaking of Data East, I've successfully ripped guitar samples from the arcade version of Vapor Trail.  God they're awesome.  There are also over 20 of them!  No wonder they didn't use those samples in the Genesis version.

Scuse the double post.  I wanted to show off the remix I'm working on:As usual, the mix is terrible, but the instrumentation is there.  I used drums sampled from the actual MD version of the game, however I'm considering redoing the drums chip-style (a la Thunder Force IV) and using the one alotted sample channel for sampled guitars, either from Skitchin', or the arcade version of VT...or perhaps a combination of the two.
