10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

So I grabbed my TurboDuo out of the closet last night and was going through and testing all my games. I must say that Dungeon Explorer is awesome and holds up after 25+ years. I definitely have to find a Duo Tap so I can share some multiplayer goodness. One reason I really like this game is because it reminds me of Gauntlet.

LORD NATAS commands you to listen to the soundtrack when you aren't playing the game.

This, he commands.

On road trips or sometimes while just walking across town, I'd debde debda up a bard just to listen to the soundtrack on my Turbo Express.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

The soundtrack is boss. I listen to it often. I also like the DE2 soundtrack but the first is best.

I just gave the soundtrack a listen to.  After Double Dungeons of all games, Dungeon Explorer 2 is probably my favorite Hu Card soundtrack.  It, of course, still holds up.  The last time I played through Dungeon Explorer was while waiting for Dungeon Explorer 2 that I got to show up at my door just over 2 years ago.

Maybe I'll give it another go at some point in the near future if I can get some buddies to play through it with me.
Current want list:  Bomberman 93

Arkhan Asylum

This game is a fantastic demonstration of why stereo panning on all channels is a good time.

It showcases the PC Engine's sound perfectly.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Truth.  The Redbook audio is nice, but the Hu Card tunes are amazing.

Heck yeah, it's the Hudson Bee's knees!  Sweet tunes, nice graphics (if a bit dark), five player action, and unlockable characters - what's not to love?

Password system rather than backup ram saves?

Now I just listen to Dreams of Oddesia.

True, save files would be preferable, but at least the passwords are short and easy enough to read.

drives me crazy that speedruns of this game don't use the walk through walls code!

Passwords have probably turned out better in the long run. I couldn't imagine trying to crack open a HuCard to replace a battery. Also, if there weren't passwords how could people cheat?

PC Engine games use external backup saving. The CD-ROMs add it and the Duo systems have it. If you're sticking to a HuCard-only system, there's the Tennokoe II for PCE or the TurboBooster Plus for TG-16.

Dungeon Explorer II supports game saving.

And games like Neutopia and Ys do both passwords and save files, letting you have your cake and eat it too.

This is what I would prefer, since I don't manage the memory much I can have a game save that consumes the tiny memory amount of my duo-r, and use passwords on the other games.

I'm saying it now, catastrophy will have both - get on it DK!! *cracks the whip*

I too love this music. It's often a game I throw on when people ask: "What is this Turbo and why do you love it so much?"
