Before I only had this:

Super Star Soldier

Since then I got these:

Gunhed
Final Soldier
Soldier Blade
Xevious - Fardraut Legend
Dragon Spirit
Dragon Saber
Kyukyoku Tiger
Genpei Toumaden

BTW what does everyone here think of Genpei Toumaden? I think it is a really cool game. I love how you start as tiny samurai sprite, then all of the sudden you get HUGE, and then you are in bird's eye view. As of right now I am having a tough time getting the sword, charm, and mirror required to beat the last boss. Is their ANY way to backtrack for the other 2 items? I can only get the sword.

What?!?  "A really cool game"?!?  What the heck are you smoking, and can I have some?  In case you can't tell, I think that Genpei Toumaden sucks hairy sacks.  The controls blow, the backgrounds are plain and gritty, and the music is nothing to get wet over.  If you like this stinker, then you'll love part 2 (a.k.a. Samurai Ghost).  It's much better, even though its controls are still a bit awkward.

Genpei Tourmaden = THE WORST PCE GAME EVER MADE.

The graphics make the NES look like an XBOX 360, the music blows, the control blows and the backgrounds look like they were drawn by a retarded 3 year old on crack.

I like Genpei. I know it looks crappy but there's something quaint about it I enjoy, certainly a lot more than the second one. It has decent music, and one track in particular is awesome (track 21).

Alt-Nintega

I see all of you are complaining about the graphics. I think Namco purposely made the game look like a 12th century Japanese painting.

They may look a little rough but there is some impressive parallax scrolling going on in there.

Alt-Nintega

Also explain me why you do think the controls are bad? Are you all talking about the controls in the mode where you are large?

Keranu

Great games! The first three listed especially are great!

Cool lot, Nintega.  Gunhed, Galaga, Final Soldier, and Soldier Blade are all winners.

Despite its flaws, I like Genpei Toumaden II quite a bit; but I haven't played its predecessor yet.  Nat, GUTS, and Necromancer have pretty much scared me away from it.   :D

That's because GT II (Samurai Ghost 2) is not only way better, it's a fairly decent game all around.

I really think you should be the judge. Genpei 1 is almost the same. Video below.

Oh, I'll definitely buy and play it.  I buy and play everything.

The vicious reviews it received from those three fellows have made my expectations for it quite low, especially since my views usually match up with Nat's and he's proclaimed it THE WORST PCE GAME EVER MADE (can it be even worse than JJ?!).  But in a way, their remarks have made me more curious about it as well, since I'm always up for a good disaster.   :D

I'm probably overstating for dramatic effect. But I couldn't even force myself to finish the game. I think GUTS played all the way through. Though I haven't actually played every PCE game ever made, so I can't really make a legitimate claim that it's the worst. I guess JJ & Jeff and Wonder Momo are pretty bad, too. It's a tough call.

And FWIW, the YouTube codec actually makes the graphics look better than they actually are. The shining moments of the game are definitely the "big sprite" stages which play just like the second game but look and feel a bit crappier. The "little sprite" and overhead stages are where things fall apart. Flicker and crappy production value runs rampant.

I might be confused, but I think I have Genpei Toumaden for Famicom. I have not gotten to the "big sprite" part of the game, if there is one. Has anyone here played the Famicom and PCE versions? How do they compare. I've played a bit of both of them, years ago. From what I recall, the Famicom version begins with an overhead "map", while the PCE version begins with side-view hack-n-slash platforming (tiny sprites!).

Actually the Famicom game is based on the RPG-style board game Namco released in toy stores shortly after the release of the arcade original.
