Since it's CD thread, I'd have to say the first stage in Lords of Thunder always fires me up.

But on a Hu, got to be Devil's Undulate.

Valis II -- Music for the first stage. Bittersweet, yet catchy. Brilliant.

Of course, I love many, many other songs from various games, but the music for the first stage in Valis II is still gorgeous. If only more games had synth-pop of this sort, I'd be in heaven. Oh well.

Indeed, the Ys games are all great, but I think I like Ys III's soundtrack the best.

As I said in the thread from a couple months ago:

Tengai Makyou Fuun Kabuki Den: Garp's Theme
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Track "13" from Ai Chou Aniki, its so wacky...so Japanese I can't help but love it.
I really like Track "16" from Kaze Kiri too.

You know, after I read the first line of your message, I thought about how I was going to comment how much better the music in Ys III is over Ys I or II.

After reading this line, I couldn't hit "Reply" fast enough.

Ys III (music) kicks Ys I & II collective ass up, down and sideways.

Good, but hard question! I pretty much love any TG16/PCE soundtrack I hear, so it's more fun to see which games feature soundtracks I don't like :) . However to answer your original question, I would probably say something like Exile, Gates and Lords, Dragon Slayer (though most of the soundtrack is nothing too special, there are a few tracks that are really amazing), Fatal Fury 2/Special, Art of Fighting and so much more! I feel bad just listing those because I know there have to be some CD games with music I prefer even more than those listed!

Quote from: steveAnd, to the person who prefers Ys III's soundtrack over Ys I & II's: put down the crackpipe! :)
Agreed. I'd also like to point out that Ys IV's soundtrack is really underrated! It takes a little different approach, but I just love the dancey style of it! I & II definitely has the best soundtrack, if for the epicness alone.

Yes, I like the "Under Sea Caves" track as well. I am a sucker for these sort of songs, whatever the medium the music is in.

I was surprised that more folks didn't list stuff from DE II, since it kicks ass.

For the folks who like their LoT / GoT, check out Download 2! Even the title song is pretty kool and might be up your alley.

Shadow of the Beast: the entire soundtrack is fantastic, as some folks mentioned earlier in the thread.

Anyway, I know I (we) could all start listing a billion things, but this thread wanted specific tracks. So, here are my favorite vocal tracks of ALL TIME, not limited to TG-16, but it just so happens that no other console in the history of gaming has offered us anything that can compare to the selections below:
1) Final Zone II: Bowie's Chance (Title Song)
2) Final Zone II: Song for Bowie (Momoko's Stage)
3) It Came from the Desert: Sea of Love

And no, I'm not joking about how these songs crush all other songs w/ vocals.

CrackTiger

Since we're now deviating from single CD tracks, two of the best yet almost never mentioned PCE soundtracks are Neo Nectaris and Super Darius.

As much as I've loved the Ys soundtracks over the last decade or two, I've gained enough objectiveness to dare say that they really aren't the be all and end all of PCE soundtracks. Ys I & II certainly does well quantity-wise, but not every track is 'teh best', even if they are all classics now.

That's a tough one. My current favorite track(s) change from time to time (and back again), but overall I'd probably have to say Valis II first stage.

Now, that is poppycock, plain and simple :). Every Ys I & II track holds its own. Ys I & II is a juggernaut that we have taken for granted, but it is QUALITY to the core, despite our jaded sensibilities. I think an honest way to explain things, at least for myself, is as follows: I have over-listened to many soundtracks, including Ys I & II, so I have sought other (sometimes under-appreciated / unrecognized) songs and soundtracks to give some love to.

I'm jaded, and I have been for a long time.

Now, let's continue to list the individual tracks we love.

So, CrackTiger, which Neo Nectaris / Darius track do you dig the most? I know it's tough, but just choose one and make a standard disclaimer like "I can't really choose one, but here we go..." :)

Come on folks, I know you don't want me to monopolize this thread:
1. Jim Power - Track 6
2. Double Dragon II - Track 8 "Hot, Wild"
3. Last Alert - Ending Credit song (I love it!)
