How is the TGCD a portable music Player??

I just got my turbo grafx cd.  I thought it was advertised that you can take music on the go with it.  My question is how is that possible since there's no battery compartment.  First thing I did was look for a battery compartment.  I scatch my head a little bit on this one .  I was thinking I was going to take this with me on go with some cds and show off.  "You got an Ipod, so look what I got, a TGCD!"   It does look pretty nice as a complete setup compared that to the ugly Genesis and Sega CD setup.

That's what I call portable!  I like using my 15 year old Sony Walkman fold-out speakers with my Ipod.  Most people that see the two together don't even notice just how odd it is.

It doesn't have any skip protection though (or does it?), so maybe that's not such a good idea.

Ha, I recall using the Turbo CD player detachment and using it as a "portable" CD player while doing some other random stuff on my desk. 

It doesn't have any skip protection though (or does it?), so maybe that's not such a good idea.

It totally doesn't.  The slightest bump would make the music skip.

My first Turbografx-CD player bitd was actually my first CD player as well.  I have fond memories of bringing the TG-CD unit with me to the Poconoes and playing the shit out of a Doors Strange Days disc.

The TurboCD was my first CD player as well. When I was much younger my bed was up on top of a shelf unit and instead of a bedside table I had one of those nested wire mesh basket things hanging from the ceiling. I would always take the CD unit with me at bedtime and listen to CDs (one of the, oh, 2 or 3 I owned) to fall asleep.

The TG-16 and Sega Saturn are the two systems I got more use out of than any other. I played them both half to death.

For the longest time, I didn't really have many CDs, so I'd play actual Turbo CD games in there as musical CDs (Cosmic Fantasy 2 or Ys Book I & II... Loom had a bunch of Tchaikovsky tracks).  My only headphones were the old ones that had come in a travel-pack with my original Gameboy, but I had a set of computer speakers that had been discarded in favor of powered ones I used alot.

I felt very clever and high-brow having that computer speaker + NEC "portable" CD player setup when we went out to our remote ranch house.

Good times, but I think ye olde drive was burned out by a couple years after the Duo came out from all the use.

Nice story. hehe I was so jealous of all of you. Although I was very much part of the CD revolution, I unfortunately wasn't part of the Turbo CD Revolution. Just the ol' Hueys.

You guys were a bunch of rich kids.  We were fortunately to get a turbografx.  I remember receive the Lords of Thunder promo video cassette.  We used to watch over and over...  Now that I'm order and have some disposable income, I can afford to relive my childhood 10 folds

This was my first CD player as well, though I have probably purchased less than 10 music CDs or so in my entire life.

Keep in mind that when you detach the CD player from the Interface Unit, the proper AC adapter is actually the one that comes with the TurboGrafx-16, not the TG-CD.  So leave the Interface Unit plugged in and use the otherwise useless TG-16 AC Adapter.  I used to do this to listen to CDs in bed in the dark.  The CD player would rest on my chest above the covers as I rocked out to the likes of Scorpions (that Winds of Change album), Queensryche (that Silent Lucidity album) and Van Halen (that For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album) all of which were brand new CDs in the heyday of the TurboGrafx-16.  DAMN those bands are old!

The CD player has been replaced twice by NEC.

6 out of the 10 songs were about sex.  A very underated album IMO.  I even had a textured album cover promo poster on my wall.  Wish I still had it   I search Ebay for it now and then

Far from it. I bought my own TG-16 with hard-earned cash from doing chores and saving up, and the only reason I got the CD add-on for Christmas a year or two later was because the price had dropped to $149.99. That was my big present that Christmas and I pretty much didn't get anything else. Didn't matter I had no CD games for months afterwards.

Yeah, I bought the TG16+CD well after it had gone to the clearance section.  I recall buying the CD setup for $99-ish or something like that in '92.

Yeah I wasn't rich either.  My mother is wealthy now- a partner in a law firm- but she wasn't loaded back then- when I actually would've received some of this money.  Saving up for Turbo stuff myself was the norm.  As for heavy collecting- I had to wait until my 30's to start going nutso.

Nuttier than squirrel poo indeed.  Let's put things in perspective: a PS3 or 360 and a couple of games is just as expensive as Dynastic Hero and a Duo, though I doubt he thinks that the millions of PS3 and 360 owners are rich.  Besides, nearly every console has a couple of low volume, high value titles; it's not like the Turbo is unique in that respect, though most other system's highest priced titles suck to the point of being painful.
