@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Crabmaster2000

Hi everyone,
I couldn't find any sort of introduction thread so I thought it start my own. Please point me in the right direction if there is one already. Thanks!

Anyway I missed out on the TG during my childhood, but have been a lone time gamer. The last few years I've been collecting (and playing everything I collect) games for all sorts of systems. This year I was lucky enough to find a TG16 locally and have been loving it! I cant believe I missed out on it for this long.

I'm about halfway to getting a complete set of licensed NES games (excluding Stadium Events), but after that my goal is going to be nabbing all the NTSC TG16 games (possibly excluding Magical Chase). I thought it would be a good idea to join a knowledgable community like this one in order to get as comfortable with the system as I can in the meantime. I'll still pick up the odd TG game here and there while I'm finishing up my NES goal.

Also I thought this might be a good place to Buy/Sell/Trade some games.

Looking forward to learning lots about the TG16 from you guys!

Welcome!   While hucard games are great... you will definitely want to consider finding a cd system.  There are a lot of excellent CD games to be had.  My advice, keep your tg16 for US hucards and find a japanese Duo-R or RX to play all the CD games and JP hucards.

I tend to keep my games for a very long time and play them a lot so I prefer cartridge based games/consoles whenever possible. That said I wouldnt be against getting a Duo eventually and a small handful of CD based games. I just have a much higher interest in the HU card games.

Are the Duos region locked?

welcome aboard.

Once you have discovered the true beauty of CD/SCD & ACD games, I promise you (and you can take me by my words) you will never want to miss them ever again!

Welcome aboard.

+1 on advising getting a Duo-R.  If you want to experience the best games that the Turbo/PCE has to offer, you have to be able to play discs.

Hi!

As others have said, your money will go sooooo much further if you forget the idea of completing anything and just enjoy the good stuff, regardless of region. You can get 5 great Japanese SuperCDs for the price of one crappy US HuCard.

Welcome. If you like RPG's, I recommend Xanadu 1 & 2, Dragon Slayer, Blood Gear, and Exile 1 & 2 to start out with.

Oh yeah. We can't forget Ys 1-4.

They are only for HuCard and Arcade CD Roms.

If you get a Duo, make sure you get an Arcade card Duo and converter.

I actually have a tg16cd and a duo r but....

Yeah I agree w bluebmw.  keep the turbo for turbo hueys but get a duo r for everything else.  Dont get a duo and dont spend the money on a rx other than that get a arcade pro for the duo r and a ave 6 controll pad and ull be good!!

yeah I agree dont worry about completeing your collectionjust get the games you really want and let that be your collection.  I have under 100 games but everyone is frikkin awesome!!

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice guys!! I appreciate it!

The reason I will be collecting as many NTSC Hucards as I can is because I very often like "crappy" games. I wont know if I enjoy them or not until I can experience them myself. And I've found that emulating them doesnt give you quite the same experience, plus I actually enjoy tracking games down.

I've also go no interest in importing games. Is it still worth it to get a Duo if I'll only be getting NTSC CD games? For that route I'll be much pickier with which games I get and the condition of them.

termis

If you're not willing to import, let me be honest and say save your money.  There's Ys I & II, Lord of Thunder, Gates of Thunder... and that's about it when it comes to absolute must-have of titles for US CD-based titles.  (And for GoT, that's more of a popular opinion rather than my own)

There are certainly another dozen or so good titles (Valis III, Forgotten Worlds, Last Alert, Ys III etc), but owning a Duo and not importing CD titles is severely limiting, to the point where I say don't bother.

Thats kind of the impression I had already. When I am ready to buy I'll look into the library a bit deeper and if I can find at least 5-10 games that I REALLY want, I might still grab one anyway. Thanks for your views and game suggestions!

Oh, and just to be nitpicky, Japanese games are also NTSC, as NTSC Region ≠ US Region.

I was aware of that, but for some reason have gotten into the habit of referring to NTSC as North American only. Thanks for fixing my error.
