Very First PC Engine/Turbo Game Ever Played?

My very first was Keith Courage in Alpha Zones...

It came packed with with the TG-16 and I had also bought Bonks Adventure the same day...

I remember firing up KC and had a blast... then popped in Bonks Adventure and played until the sun came up...

I would think that most people who bought a tg-16 new first played KC first... so might as well also say the second one as well if that was the case...

I can't recall what the first game was that I played in-store or at someone else's home, but I believe that Gate of Thunder was the first game I played that I owned.

Can't remember the exact very first game, my friend at schools older brother had bought an imported pc engine (around 1988 ish), I went round to his house to play it and played a selection of games, Kato and Ken sticks out in my memory as the toilet humour was novel for the time and R-Type was was incredible!
Anways I was blown away by the little white machine and it got me heavily into video gaming, up untill that point my experience of gaming other than the Arcades was 8 bit home computers like the Sinclair Spectrum and Commodore 64 and they were a load of Bollocks.

Dungeon Explorer, Bonk's Revenge, and Keith Courage.

Dungeon Explorer was fun but I felt a little let down. I had not checked into it and was expecting more RPG than Action RPG.... but was still decent fun.

Keith Courage, meh

I honestly think the first Turbo game I played was Fighting Street on the demo unit in Radio Shack. The first game I owned was Keith Courage, of course.

I do remember some demo kiosks in local EB Games/Gamestop/Babbage's/Funcoland bitd...but not any game in particular. First games I owned/played were Neutopia 2, and Veigues Tactical Gladiator (much better game of the 2).

The first Turbo game I remember playing was Battle Royale.... and what a first impression!

My next door neighbor had a TurboGrafx... the only time any of my friends had one. Other early plays include China Warrior and Legendary Axe II. Axe II was the only game of the lot that I thought was decent.

Oh, I take that back, I did play Air Zonk on a Kiosk in Toys R Us, way back.... not sure if it was the first game I played but it was close....

Even in the game stores of the bigger surrounding cities I rarely see anything Turbo related... Guess thats Wisconsin for you!

In order to decide which console I should buy in 1989, I asked the game store keeper show me some shooting games on PCE and Genesis, he played Thunder Force II, and Tatsujin on Genesis, and then played Blazing lasers on PCE. I finally bought PCE and Blazing laser home, it costed me total 120 bucks.

I still remember - there was this little electronics store off of 8th and Vermont in L.A.... (don't remember the name - but it's long gone now).

They had random games up & running, and I recall that Vigilante was game they had going when I first went in there. I recall being rather impressed with the graphics. (I mean, compared to the NES, it's no surprise)

I think Monster Lair III was the first CD-ROM game I tried out (at the same store), though it could've been Fighting Street...

edit: Wait, I distinctly recall playing Kato-chan Ken-chan in Korea on a bootlegged, Playchoice-like, time-limited arcade system, and that was before I ever played any TG16... So KCKC it is.

keith courage was my first. It was the pack in. I never played the system before I bought it. Some worker at electronics boutique was trying to talk me out of buying it by showing a comparison card between tg and the geni. I told that kid to kick rocks and I brought the tg16 home, hooked it up, popped in keith courage, played it for fifteen minutes and said "this sucks". but heres the twist I also bought legendary axe so I popped it in and was very happy. I consider that really my first real game.

Keith Courage was also my first. I was standing in an Electronics Boutique back in '89 or '90 and played some KC and was blown away by the "gunhead" enemies. I didn't realize how average the game was until I actually got a turbo 20 years later.

Spriggan was my first PC Engine title. It's still one of my all time faves.

super star soldier at a small shop in birmingham, microbytes, 1990 ( closed doen ages ago) priced a extortion tag of 70 pounds, ( pc engine has never been released in UK), but it blown my mind, compared next to megadrives, Famicoms and master systems

First HuCard: BLAZING LAZERS

First CD-ROM: Valis II / Monster Lair (I got them at the same time, can't remember which I played first.)

BUT, the first CD I saw a demo of (on actual hardware), was Final Zone II. The store just had the opening cinema/title screen playing, and did not let you play unless you requested to do so and were "trusted" (i.e. a known customer or with a parent).

Keith Courage was my first. I really love Keith Courage I don't think it is ever given enough credit. I'd love to see more games based on the KC world.

When I got my TurboGrafx there was a promotion that you could send away for a free game. You got to pick like your 5 top favorites from a list and they would send you one of those. My friend and I got Turbo's at the same time and sent away. After about 6 weeks our free games never arrived so we called and they apologized and said they would send them out asap.

The next day I got Legendary Axe in the mail and then about a week later I got Victory Run. We both got 2 games!! We were so stoked. I played the hell out of Victory Run. Sadly I never like Legendary Axe at the time. Now I think it has some of the most beautiful graphics ever.

Wow, that Keith dude sure gets around; he devirginized the lot of you. lmao! Anyways, the first TurboGrafx-16™ game that I played was Bonk's Adventure. I played it on a kiosk in a Toys'R'Us store. Ever since I entered the dinosaur in level 1, I was hooked. Unfortunately for me, it wasn't until many years later that I would actually own the console and a slew of games.

My first CD game (and the first I played) was Splash Lake, and I didn't regret that choice for one moment. That game kicks ass.

Lucky. Ever since catchin' spida1's review of it, it's on my list to pick up. Unfortunately, it'll be a while before I pay that kind of price for it. heh

My mate had Gunhed and Dragon Spirit, but can't work out whether I played his system before mine. Oh and there were the games his dodgy mate owned, the Kung Fu and Rock-On.

I am surprised that I am the only one on the list that Splatterhouse is the first hu game played, I thought that is why all the kiddies got this system?

When I bought my own system it was either Alien Crush or Cadash I played first. First CD game was Lords of Thunder.

First TG-16 game played: Keith Courage in Alpha Zones (store demo)
Second TG-16 game played: Bonk's Adventure (friend of a friend's house; the only person I knew who had a Turbo)
I've never owned a TG-16.

First PC Engine HuCard game I played/owned: Deep Blue
First PC Engine CD game I played/owned: Pomping World (Pang)

I got a nice PC Engine Duo as my first NEC system and there were not many games to choose from at all, as you can tell by these games. The one saving grace is that I also picked up Twinbee at the same time. Still, knowing the reputation of Deep Blue, I just HAD to see if was really that bad. As for Pomping World/Pang... well, it's an awesome game.

Tats, you have to admit that, of ALL the games in the PCE library, it is hilarious that Blodia would be used to showcase the system.

To think that you, a HUGE fan of PCE, started your odyssey with the humble Blodia is amusing.

I, of course, am a huge fan of Blodia, but I am glad it wasn't the first game I ever played

My first ever game to play was Air Zonk. I picked up a TG16 and Air Zonk from some electronics store at a mall when they were trying to clear out inventory. I remember getting the TG16 for $50, but don't recall the price of Air Zonk, but I believe it was around $19 or $29. I remember seeing the Duo at that same store for crazy prices, and thought I'd never own one.

It really was depressing to walk into a store and see the Duo, in all its glory, believing that you would never own it. heh BITD it was not a cheap piece of gear, though you did get a crap load of free games.

First game I popped in when I brought my Duo home with 12 games was the Gate of Thunder 4 in one disc.

Had to play the original Bonk's Adventure first!!

Then when I tried Gate and Ys I was floored!! I'll never forget seeing and hearing Ys Book I, that experience I'll never forget, but the start of that day I played Bonk first.

when i bought my first turbo, i went into the store with the intention of buying a sega genesis. (had one when they first came out but had sold it...) turned out, however, that i didn't have enough money to get it so i was screwed. i looked around the store and glanced down at a small section of the store devoted to the turbografx-16. the system had a price tag of $60 (obviously marked down) and came with keith courage in alpha zones. i read the back of the box and vaguely remembered seeing a television advertisement for bonk, so i went ahead and bought it, along with china warrior. when i got it home, not only did it have keith courage, but jj and jeff, and parasol stars were in the box as well! keith courage was first of course, but i spent most of that day playing china warrior and jj & jeff. after that i proceeded to pick my local shop clean of it's discounted tg-16 games.

My neighbor when I was a kid knew that I was a Compile fan and brought me over to see Blazing Lazers when he bought it. He gave me a try and I loved it! Went out that weekend and bought the system at a Sears outlet store on sale. Used my lovely lunch money and allowance I was saving for the TG-16 system. The first CD game I ever played was Valis II I believe. I eventually traded my TG-16 in for a Duo when it launched. Best decision I ever made. Playing Gate Of Thunder for the first time was amazing! Almost up there with my Ys Book I&II virgin experience.

I never had a Turbo when I was younger; it was all about Nintendo and Sega! But, when I was in high school in the mid-90's (yeah, I'm old!) I met this dude who had pretty much every system and hundreds of games. All of this crap was literally strewn about on his bedroom floor! Well he had a Duo and a copy of Drac X. Being a big Castlevania fan and never having heard of this game, I threw it in and was completely blown away! Even though I had just purchased a PS1 and was star-struck by pretty 3D graphics, I could not deny the beauty that was Drac X. So, the years flew by as I played my way through the 32, 64 and 128-bit generations, but I never forgot about that game. Recently (as in a month ago), I decided to splurge on a Duo-R. I had done my research on all of the various Turbo systems and did vast research on all of the games for it (both US and JP), and I wanted to check out all that I've missed. But, the very first game that I purchased for my new system? Drac X, of course!

Amazing game, amazing system! I've also purchased the Gate of Thunder 4-in-1 and Gain Ground SX should be arriving any day now!
