No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Spriggan is great indeed, but kinda easy.  Aleste 2 on "crazy mode" takes insane skill to even survive the stage 1 mid-point boss.

Actually SuperD, real men play TimeGal on LA right?   :D

SuperDeadite

of course, as well as VC2.  But those aren't shooters...

How is VC2 compared to the pc98 version?   :D

SuperDeadite

No idea, but I'd assume the LD version would have the better quality video,
which is the whole point really.

Quote from: nat on 09/13/2011, 11:12 PMMUSHA is a great game, but not quite the greatest shooter ever made. Hell, it's not even the greatest Compile shooter.

I personally enjoy Blazing Lazers and Spriggan more.
Quote from: Tatsujin on 09/14/2011, 12:52 AMSpriggan is clearly above most compile stuff and one of the greatest shewties ever. Period.
So much truth in them thar quotes. ...So much. [-(

I'm pretty sure some people "shoot" after playing VC2

And by that I mean shoot pictures of course. What were you thinking?  :-"

Arkhan Asylum

Contra was a good shooter.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

machomadness

I've always been partial to the Thunder Force games. But, I'd consider Gunstar Heroes a shooter and that's no on the list....

nat

I'd consider Gunstar Heroes a run-n-gun, which I suppose is a "subgenre" of shooters.

Samurai Ghost

Recently bought a copy of Musha Aleste and Gaiares... Two great shooters!!

Also, would you consider games like FZ Axis and Ganada to be shooters? They are a bit different I suppose, but two great games. Love pretty much anything by Wolf Team.

Arkhan Asylum

No Wings of Wor or Phelios = I don't vote.

Why did  Sol Deace/Feace not get added to the list?

DragonmasterDan

I just ordered a copy of Lightening Force. I hear it may be the best on the system. I have TF2 and 3.

Lightening Force is really cool, but I prefer Thunder Force III as I like its music better. I don't much care for the scrolling screen in Lightening Force either. This reminds me...I still need to get a box for my copy of LF.

Arkhan Asylum

Ok wait I am blind, Wings of Wor is on the list.
BUT WHERE IS PHELIOS.

I really liked Phelios.

SuperDeadite

Phelios is one of the weirdest ports I've ever seen.  Why did Namco even bother to attempt to port that?  Should have just made a sequal, or spinoff.

Silence!  It's fun and I like it.

Who cares if its all derpy.

I recently picked up Phelios at a local resale shop. I played it quite a bit, and I really enjoy it. And it is certainly derpy- it doesn't feel like other vertical shooters... but it is fun to play, pretty hard, and has a neat art style. I especially like the NES-grade skeleton warriors.
