No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Once that saxophone kicked in I was like F@CK YES! and I hugged the song during my brief break from dancing.

:)

Quote from: TheClash603 on 04/15/2017, 11:30 AMMy parents were big fans of Elvis' 70s music, cause they were born in the mid-50s so that aligned with their age group.  Due to this, I only ever heard later Elvis or gospel Elvis around the house growing up.
My friend's mom was a huge Elvis fan... we would joke that she married her husband because he encapsulated the "young Elvis"...there was some truth to it :)

She liked all his different "eras" of music, but I was always distracted by all the memorabilia she had collected over the years.

QuoteAbout 10 years ago I dipped my toes into the Sun Records era of Elvis and realized my parents were missing out.  Songs like Mystery Train and That's Alright hold up incredibly well today.  I still have a soft spot for American Trilogy and the stuff my parents listened to, but the early recordings are the real gold.

...I love Patsy Cline too.

..and the Day of the Dead ST.  The last horror ST I picked up was The Thing and it is great.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
I love all those synthesizer-heavy soundtracks. Even if they are simplistic, or heavy-handed, there is something special they evoke.

What is nice is that Day of the Dead + The Thing happen to be excellent films, too.

Of course, even generic slasher/action films from 80's can have nice soundtracks, too.

HINT: Go to "Intergalactic FM" and listen to the channel with music from films/TV...lots of interesting stuff. For example, the soundtrack for "Assault on Precinct 16" (can't remember the actual title) was surprisingly better than I remembered it...it is another Carpenter film,  like The Thing, Halloween, The Fog <-- :) with a good, simple soundtrack.

:)

Assault On Precinct 13 ST > the movie as a whole.  It is a movie that oddly has become more well respected with time, but it is just too slow for me.

You guys should listen to John Carpenter's Lost Themes sometime.  It is music he made that sounds like it could be on one of his movie soundtracks, but was made just for the album.

I think(?) that IntergalacticFM has played that "Lost Themes" album? Or...it was some collaboration Carpenter did w/ someone.

:)

I'll go listen to Lost Themes...I just put it on my "to listen" list.

Hey Assault is awesome and miles better than the lawrence fishburne remake. One of my favorite movies alongside Escape from New York. The synth soundtrack Carpenter employed is very charming.

This is pure nostalgia.

I don't think I've actually listened to this closely since I was a kid and my mom would have been the one who was in control of the radio.

I love the atmosphere that builds the whole song, but especially the last 1/2(?)-1/3 that is pure instrumental, with the droning, pulsing beat...

Agreed. I don't mind slow pacing when it is atmospheric and builds tension...I think Assault works because it slowly builds and builds.

Shadilay, brother!
I have no idea what "shadilay" means, but I feel dirty singing along to it.

Thank you.

:)

I debated if I should go into Pepe Le Frog's legacy of leap frogging off of 4chan into presidential history-making, but I didn't wanna ruin his theme song by informing you of the association. :P

Yesss, feel very dirty that you enjoyed it, comrade!

TheClash603

I decided to listen to some poppy punk, to bring my back to my youth.  I'm not sure if The Vindictives and The Queers are actually good or if it is rose colored glasses, but I enjoyed listening to them today.  Two of my favorites:

I don't know if I ever listened to The Vindictives (outside of a compilation),but I have a bunch of albums from The Queers.

:)

I also have a bunch of albums from The Cramps, if that is your sort of thing.

As far as nostalgia, I was listening to Reagan Youth (John Wayne was a Nazi) and Adrenaline OD (NJ!) and The Commonwealth stuff like that a few weeks ago.

I don't care if the music is simple. It's good. Fun.

I love Reagan Youth, there was a period where I listened to them in heavy rotation.  I never got into the Cramps though, for some reason not for me.

You should give the Vindictives a listen, it is a very love it or hate it kind of band, but I am in the love it category.

BigusSchmuck

Leaves Eyes. One of the best opera metal bands eva.

NightWolve

This ain't bad, showed up in my feed this morning. Not blown away or anything, but it was decent enough a Star Wars tribute.

Sunday mornin easy listening musics

TheClash603

We got a lot of metal heads in our ranks, which is fine by me!

Amazon has its music unlimited service where it was free one month, plus $10 gift card if you keep it a second month.  I believe that if I keep the service for 3 months, that puts the overall out of pocket cost at $6.  For people looking for a nice streaming service you can exploit on the cheap for a few months, it's definitely worth the cost for 3 months.

My first CD purchase was Opeth's My Arms, Your Hearse.

I'm waiting for the new Ayreon to drop. Multiple plays through the album will probably take up my whole evening on April 28th. The previous album (The Theory of Everything) was one of his best, and I'm expecting similar. If anyone likes prog metal/rock I really can't recommend Ayreon enough.
@NightWolve Yeah LOL, found out about them a bit back. They are some others that are pretty funny as well.

The first two Yellow Magic Orchestra albums, after having heard Tong Poo on the radio last week.
So I decided to get both albums on CD from the UK.

thanks to a UK tv advert I've been giving this attention

^ Isn't that a great video? Subverting or celebrating America? The pop-art for some of the early albums/singles is equally brilliant.

Fucking love YMO.  Their first self-titled album is their best imo.  Cosmic Surfin' is amazing, as well as Simoon.  I love the early video game sounds too!  These guys were just as much pioneers with synthesizers as Kraftwerk, but much lesser known in the west.

Other great albums of theirs are:
Solid State Survivor - great cover of The Beatles' Day Tripper and Michael Jackson even recorded vocals for a cover of Behind the Mask, released on his posthumous album Michael.

Technodelic - pure early synth experimental bliss.  I like this one almost as much as the first but for different reasons.  There will never be another album that sounds like this, ever.  Brilliant.

Technodon - their 90's album which I was hesitant about but it's top notch.  Best enjoyed when you're in a chill mood with a nice beer or two.

Ope, what in the world?!

I usually don't like "sports" stuff...and F-1? But the rocking first track...DAMMIT! I think I'll have to listen to the whole damn thing.

UPDATE: This album so perfectly fits the gorgeous weather in NJ today...I am in heaven listening to it outside as my kids play in the yard.

FRIGGIN LOVE THE FIRST TRACK WITH OUTRAGEOUS SYNTH SOLOS.
