I haven't used my Wii in forever.

In fact, we bought a new entertainment center, and I left my PS3 and 360 still hooked up, but actually opted to pack up the wii as I never use it.

Anyone else in this boat?

I bought a wii not long after its launch... I wore that thing out the first year or so, but nowadays... its been probably 6 months since I fired it up and that was to play a gamecube game...
[Sun 23:29] <Tatsujin> we have hard off, book off, house off, sports off, baby off, clothes off, jerk off, piss off etc

hoobs88

I still fire up it up for multiplayer Smash Bros action when friends are around but sadly no other games.

Mine has certainly been collecting some dust. Last game I played was donkey kong country. Don't go packing it up so prematurely though. There is a new Zelda game coming out this month!

jlued686

Skyward Sword is in two weeks.

That is all...

c0ldb33r

I still haven't beaten the last Wii Zelda game. I got a few hours into it and was BORED.

Last Zelda game I liked was the cel shaded one.

I sorta hated Twilight Princess too. But I'm optimistic about Skyward Sword. I'm pretty good friends with Phil Kollar from Game Informer and I trust his opinion. He just gave it a 10. I'm keeping the faith.

SignOfZeta

I've noticed that a lot of people make it some kind of badge of coolness to brag about how long its been since they turned on their Wii. There is no such thing as a system so awesome that it can entertain you while switched off...

I've been playing Mario Galaxy lately. Its only $20 now so I couldn't resist.

I finally turned my Wii on after a long ass time to play Kirby Epic Yarn, Lost in Shadow, Fragile Dreams or whatever, Klonoa, Sonic Colors, and the newest Kirby that just came out.

I've determined that the Wii is basically horse shit for everything except platformers.  Skyward Sword is probably going to suck.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

nat

I go through phases with all my non-NEC consoles, and the Wii is no different. I'll go through periods where I get into something and play it a bunch, and then nothing for a while.

The Wii has some really great stuff; the Mario Galaxies, Mario Kart Wii, the Sonic "kart" racing game (forget the name), Star Soldier R, Smash Bros, the Neo Geo re-releases on disc and the VC, Donkey Kong Country, Bust-A-Move Bash, New Super Mario Bros, and lots of 2D stuff, some of which I've only barely begun to get into.

The Wii isn't the console for next-gen 3D FPS games, and that's just fine with me, since that's the sort of shit I hate anyway. The Wii does what it does, and does it well.

I don't think that's it. There are a few great games and loads of shovel ware. I want to love the wii, but just don't.

I finally got Sin and Punishment 2 and have really been having a good time with it.  I also loved Kirby's Epic Yarn.  I still start a new game of Mario Galaxies every now and then.  Last weekend I also played Raving Rabbids Go Home.  I am always a sucker for the Rabbids games.  Like nat, I go through phases where I won't touch any systems except one.  I always play something turbo related every week, but I do move onto other consoles.  Usually, I only play my Saturn for a couple weeks then move to my MVS or arcade PCB's.  It really is a spur of the moment for me and gaming.  I go in phases.  The Wii has been seeing a bit more attention lately, cause it has been so long since I've really sat down to play it.  I usually use it every day for Netflix and homebrew for watching movies.  I also have been enjoying Mednafen on the Wii.  Finally nice to have some SGX and PC-E that plays about as good as emulation is going to get to the real thing.

DragonmasterDan

I play it quite a bit, I have about 60-70 games for it, not counting downloadables. There's a lot of decent stuff on it to be quite honest. It's just that the decent stuff is 5% and crap takes up the other 95%.

I'm gonna copy-and-paste segments of an article I wrote a while back about Wii's library. Here are a handful of games that I think make the console worth checking out...

Monster Hunter Tri, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars, Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaro's Treasure, The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return, House of the Dead: Overkill, Sonic & Sega All Star Racing, Madworld, Virtua Tennis 2009, Samba de Amigo, Sega Superstars Tennis, Sega Bass Fishing, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, and Sonic & the Secret Rings, Sonic Colors, Sonic Generations, Blast Works,A Boy and His Blob, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Red Steel 2, Klonoa, Little King's Story, Bully: Scholarship Edition, Metal Slug Anthology, Shiren the Wanderer, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Deadly Premonition, Okami, Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection, No More Heroes 1 & 2, Cave Story, Star Soldier R, Excite Bike: World Rally, World of Goo, Adventure Island: The Beginning, Alien Crush Returns, Bit.Trip.Beat/Core/Runner/Void, Blaster Master Overdrive, Castlevania The Adventure/Contra/Gradius ReBirth, Lost Winds, Mega Man 9 & 10, Military Madness: Nectaris, Phoenix Wright, Strong Bad, Swords & Soldiers, Tales of Monkey Island, Super Mario Galaxy 1&2, Metroid Prime 3, Metroid: Other M, New Super Mario Bros., Zelda: Twilight Princess, Zelda: Skyward Sword, Sin & Punishment: Star Successor, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Battalion Wars 2, Wario Land: Shake It, Excite Truck and Excitebots: Trick Racing, Mario Kart Wii, Punch Out!!, Super Paper Mario, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby: Return to Dreamland.

SuperPlay

I need to start to use my Wii again, thank you for reminding me that I have one ;0)  Just been playing PCE in my spare time over the last 6 months.

GohanX

I don't play my Wii every day, but it's far from collecting dust. I used to play a lot of VC games on it, but I tend to just hook up the original systems these days. Now, I pop in Wii Punch Out pretty frequently, it's my favorite game of the current generation.

DragonmasterDan

Quote from: JKM on 11/07/2011, 10:18 PMI pop in Wii Punch Out pretty frequently, it's my favorite game of the current generation.
Heh, I played the crap out of that game, phenomenally awesome.
--DragonmasterDan

BigusSchmuck

I think thats the problem with the Wii: most of the good games are Nintendo produced and the lack of good third party games are whats killing it. I haven't played my Wii since the new Sonic ( can't remember the title) and Epic Mickey. I mean, there is hardly any worthwhile rpgs for the thing unless you count XenoBlade (f you are lucky enough to live in Europe) and thats really about it. Yet, I feel there was so much more that could have been done with it in regards of sword fighting games, but instead we get the waggle effect even with the motion sensor plus deal. Anyway, thats my two cents. BTW, I second that the new Punch Out game is awesome!

Burnt Lasagna

There's not a day that goes by that I don't play my Wii.

Mainly because of the fantastic homebrew support! My Wii has essentially been turned into a homebrew zombie with bootmii installed in boot2 for fast system recoveries and brick protection,  severally custom IOS's installed in it and an external HD plugged up for loading Wii games off it from USB loader GX and for storing other emulated games (emulation on the Wii is top notch). It has become my go to system for almost everything retro. :D
What Button Do You Press To Jump!?!

GohanX

It really is a fantastic emulation machine, and the only modern system that can output in 240p over component.  Plus, thanks to VC there are tons of controller options and adapters if you look hard enough.

SMF

My Wii has been seeing a lot of action lately due to Zelda Skyword Sword. Its finally nice to play a motion game without waggling about. Its really 1:1 movement.

Loving Skyward Sword. I didn't really care much for Twilight Princess or the last two DS Zeldas, so I was skeptical about this one. I'm about 15 hours in so far and it's the best Zelda I've played since Wind Waker. Maybe even better.

T2KFreeker

Wii still has me. Shovelware or not, I love the hokey horror games that released and still play the Hell out of GoldenEye 007.

I just bought Metroid: Other M cheap, so I (hopefully) will be playing some Wii in the upcoming weeks.

I bought two extra pink controllers last year, so I'm all set.

Some good stuff there. Although, if you have an XBOX 360, get Dead Rising there instead. It's much better. On WiiWare, there is also LIT, which can really get you if you take the time to play it. On a lighter note as well, the redone version of "Haunted House" from Atari is pretty cool too.

I do pretty much the same as I do with the 360.  I look around for good downloadables, and buy what looks good (used) on store shelves.  I can always find comfort in knowing the Wii has good titles like Boy and His Blob, Murumasa, Cave Story, Castlevania Rebirth, Contra Rebirth, and the New Super Mario Bros Games.  Good stuff.

The Nintendo Wii was a great reason for familys to play games, I forget how many times at the holidays a group of us would start up a tourny of Bowling and even SSBB along with Mario Kart. I feel Nintendo did the smart thing releasing the wii. If it wasn't smart then explain The Move and Kinect? Excited for Wii U in 2012.
Welcome to Prime Time B!tch

I'm not too sure if I'll be getting the Wii-U at launch, but I have a feeling we'll be getting one by 2012's end.  That is if the world doesn't come to an end at that point.

I'll get a Wii-U if the kinks are worked out, the controllers aren't too expensive, and we get some good games. That says it all right there. Oh, and I want to be able to transfer my VC andDLC from my Wii unit without having to buy it, yet again.
END OF LINE.

JoshTurboTrollX

Well, if you say get a new Wii, and log into the online part with your current Nintendo account you are able to download all the same stuff over again without having to pay $$s for them, so i would assume this would be the same method for the new Wii-U.

FONY should take a page out of that book!  Yeah, I'm looking at you PS Vita!!  Forcing me to repay for Downloadable versions of hard copies I already own!!  SUCK FONY!!

I, too, want to get Zelda SS but I'll wait until the price drops...I have plenty of games to keep me occupied.

I have recently been replaying that Castlevania remix (Rebirth on WiiWare?) that Konami released a few years ago for the Wii market...it's not fantastic, but I never finished it and I'm having a decent amount of fun playing through it again. I can't help but have mixed feelings: I was somewhat disappointed when it first came out...but now I'm just trying to appreciate it for what it is.

I really wanted this to be an exhilarating, jaw-dropping 2-D Castlevania extravaganza. Instead, it seems like a half-hearted pastiche (yes! Pastiche!) of earlier games. I feel it was an opportunity to make something kick-ass, but they opted for a safer, predictable path.

So, yes, I am playing my Wii.
IMGIMG IMG  |  IMG  |  IMG IMG

futureman2000

I wish I could play SS, but our Wii has some issues. When powered on, it has about a 10% chance of booting to the Wii menu - the rest of the time just a black screen. Once we do get the Wii menu, there is about a 10% chance that the chosen game/program will properly start - again, usually resulting in a black screen. This is why we leave it on with Netflix running 24/7... which I'm sure may damage the system. Wii shame spiral?

DynamiteSJ

havent touched my WII in forever.. bought it roughly when it came out - played it for a month and its been collecting dust. My ol retro nes, gens, and tg16 get more play than it. For the newer stuff.. my x360 takes care of that.

Bought into the new hype when it came out. Maybe 5% of the games are really worth anything... totally spammed with terrible games besides the "nintendo" make and a few others.
