Rock on! Excellent show, as always :)

Wonderboy III: Monster Lair's Redbook audio tracks are superb and it was nice to hear the ending credit music.

It was really neat to hear the Soldier Blade (or was it Super Star Soldier?) remix -- definitely nice to learn about stuff like that, since I wouldn't otherwise know where to find it.
IMGIMG IMG  |  IMG  |  IMG IMG

_Paul

It was Super Star Soldier.

I'll probably feature more remixes in future and although there is a lot of original Engine music still to do, I'm considering popping in the occasional arranged version from perfect collections and such.

esteban

OK, I listened to show again, this time with headphones :)

In fact, it might be kool to include both original and arranged versions of a particular song in the same show -- just so folks can compare them... While not everyone might be keen on this, I think it's a neat idea.

IMPORTANT :) :
How did you know the names of the songs for Hana Taka Daka (Long-nosed Gremlin)? I have yet to play the game, though I've been wanting to pick it up for ages...
IMGIMG IMG  |  IMG  |  IMG IMG

_Paul

I was going to play the original SSS before the remix but I wanted to save that for later as it's such a good tune.

Hana Taka Daka: The names are in the sound test. Simple!

Keranu

FANTASTIC again! Paul, my friend, you have very similar PCE music tastes of mine. The two Ys songs you have played so far are both my favorites for each game and I love the Hana Taka Daka song!

TANGENT:

Quote from: "PCE Bible Website"If you are browsing on a Mac, the top bar will not work in IE. There are also some layout issues in Safari. Buy a PC.

hahaha :) I use both PC and Mac all the time. Tell Mac folks to use Firefox or Safari. Perhaps older version of these browsers / older OS's didn't render your site as you intended, but now everything is fine (details below).

Opera is one of the best browsers (both for PC and Mac), and really faithful to the CSS and HTML standards... so if you design and test your site with Opera, you're "guaranteed" to have really high cross-platform and cross-generation compatibility. I say "guaranteed" because IE is so flawed it's crazy.

The scoop:

1. Safari (1.3.1, Mac OSX 10.3.9) -- displays your site fine, as far as I can tell. Layout is intact, all links work, including top menu bar (A-Z).

2. Firefox (1.02, Mac OSX 10.3.9) -- ditto, everything works fine

3. Opera (8.02, Mac OSX 10.3.9) -- top menu bar doesn't work, otherwise, everything is fine.

I don't use Mac IE because it hasn't been updated in years.

MY PLUG OF THE DAY: Get Opera! It's ad free now (this just happened recently!) and it's a really sweet browser. I still use Firefox 80% of the time, but Opera is nice and deserves some love :)

Nice podcast, man!  I do a podcast over at my site as well and I'll be sure to mention yours.  I'm always up for giving PC Engine-related stuff a mention.

Keranu

Here's the real scoop:

NEVER use IE!

Today I was able to listen to the entire show and it was awesome!  I think I played it like 3 times thru already.

Thanks sunteam_paul!  Looking forward to future episodes.

A suggestion for future episodes: selections from Bloody Wolf.  I always loved that soundtrack.  That and Dungeon Explorer.

Hell yeah!  I love Dragon Spirit and Saber tunes.  PCE ver pulled off some pretty good sounds too.

There's a code on Dragon Saber arcade hardware that substitutes the orginal music with Dragon Spirit remix music.  All I can say is that the remakes on the Dragon Saber sound hardware are amazing.   Just insert a coin and hold down both shoot buttons and press start.  Works on Namco Museum (Encore?) version as well I think.

Ditto on Bloody Wolf! DE is stellar, but I haven't heard BW in ages.

I've already got some Bloody Wolf and Dragon Spirit tunes recorded off for future epsiodes. Both fantastic soundtracks I think.

Man, I can't get enough of this podcast!  I've been listening to both episodes so far in my car and it really passes the time on the way to and from work. :)

It works out perfectly because it takes about 25-30mins to get to work so I get to listen to the entire show.  Listening to PCE music is a great way to start the workday.  Trust me. :)

Once again, great work Paul!

pixeljunkie

loved it!!!!!

Can't wait for future episodes!

Thanks!

_Paul

I don;t wanna keep spamming the forums so this is the last one I'll announce **Episode 3 is out**. You'll just have to keep up with them from now on :)

Requests for episode 5, post them soon (ep 4 is planned already).

Awesome, man! I'll check it out after work and post what I thought! (Probably badass, as usual ;) ).

I've just gotta say I love the show, its stuff like this that makes the pc engine scene the most colorful and enjoyable. So now that I've squealed like a fanboy, I'd like to say something more constructive. I'd like to request a track from Nexzr for the fifth episode, no track specifically as its all round an awesome soundtrack... thats about it. Keep up the good work!

agreed

Episode 3: Great to have a theme. Great selection of games (I wasn't expecting a few of them; very nice to be surprised --- like Space Fantasy Zone... I really dug that track).

Also, I finally figured out how the whole "podcast" thing works so now I'll get them automatically! Amazing, I'm finally entering the modern age (it turns out that I needed to upgrade my mp3 player, because the ancient version I had didn't support podcasts -- at least that's what I think, anyway).

Anyone else feel that these shows, in general, are over really quickly? That's  the sign of a good program, IMO. :)

Yeah I really like the Nexzr soundtrack, perfect shoot 'em up music. I'll add it to the list.

Keranu

This is a late comment, but I loved Episode 3 just as much as the others. Keep up the great work and I noticed you took Steve's advice and used more HuCard music as well. Rock on!

Yeah as chip tunes are quite short, I'm trying to play 2 at a time for most titles to keep things balanced.

MotherGunner

Man, I love the first song in Spriggan, and a tune from Dragon's Curse, I think its the third or fourth stage.

Maybe you can do some of that for ep 5?
-MG

SI VIS PACEM, PARA BELLUM (If you want peace, Prepare for war)
SI VIS BELLUM, PARA MATRIMONIUM (If you want war, Prepare for marriage)

Keranu

I really love the first song in Spriggan as well (or wait, maybe it was the second level when I think about it) and Dragon's Curse/Wonderboy soundtrack has always been a solid classic!

It's probably level 1 as that tune is fantastic.

All requests for show 5 will be shunted to show 6 btw, as show 5 is going to be a 'special' of sorts ;)

esteban

OK, I finally had a chance to listen to episode 4.

I think this is my favorite episode thus far. In fact, I know it is!

It was great to hear you rant about the bad review Bloody Wolf received. You don't still have a copy of that magazine, do you?

Closing the show with the excerpt from Ai Cho Aniki was awesome, made me chuckle :)

You're spot on about Dragon Spirit's & Bloody Wolf's tunes.

Best unexpected tune in the show:  Adventures of "Kris" -- I actually like this game, in a masochistic sort of way, of course (that game is damn hard... I hate the parts where you have to jump up the "disappearing" blocks). It was as close to Indiana Jones as we got on the PCE (Wolf Team gave Sega fans Earnest Evans, Pack-in video gave us Chris).

Question: I didn't get the reference you made to "carry on films" prior to playing a tune from Legendary Axe. Must be a british thing :)

Anyway, this was the best show thus far.
