@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

FYI, dates have been announced for the next MGC...

Saturday, March 23rd and Sunday, March 24th of 2013.

Probably a good idea to set aside Friday as well... Just saying...

Wow! Just saw this thead. You know I am in. :)

Aw man.  My wife's birthday is March 25.  The likelihood of me being, I dunno, a thousand miles away for a game convention on her birthday?  Pretty much nil.  Please reschedule.  Thanks. :D

You should bring her along. My birthday is March 25th also. So many possibilities. :)

Wasn't too impressed with this past year's, though I'm not that into the retro side of gaming (afterall, just got a TG16 in April), but I wouldn't mind going next year for the atmosphere! :)

Point taken... Between Marty, Dan, and I, I would probably say that I'm the most "current" of gamers that has anything to do with the museum portion of the show.  That said, getting a lot of modern stuff to the show can sometimes be difficult.  I've always found it pretty amusing that people have no qualms with putting 30 year-old computers and games out on the show floor for people to touch and play but have real reservations about bringing their Xbox 360's and PS3's to the show.

THAT said, we may have some new things happening in the museum next year that you may find interesting.  There's also some developments with speakers and exhibits that should help balance things out a little more in the future as well.

Keep an eye on the www.midwestgamingclassic.com website!

I've probably walked through it a few times. Didn't know what a fair amount of the consoles were (without looking at the display labels, but besides that, it was fun seeing the older stuff on display.

No one brings newer consoles? Well, I have a Zephyr model Xbox 360 I could bring... if it survives the year, that is.

If you want to join the crew I have no issues with it. JD might have the last say so though.

Edit: We had newer consoles there this year. It was just harder to get the crew to bring them. Lack of passion for the newer units maybe? :-k

JoshTurboTrollX

It was a museum area.  We try to showcase nearly every console in existence. There was one or more 360, PS3, and Wiis set up at all times.
As far as I'm concerned there shouldn't be more current gen stuff in comparison to past generations.
Jossshhhhh...Legendary TurboTrollX-16: He revenge-bans PCE Developers/Ys IV Localizers from PCE Facebook groups and destroyed 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Josh and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner (extortion/blackmail!), never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

I doubt that would ever happen.  Like you said, just by achieving the goal of having just about every game system known to man at the show, we're going to end up having more retro stuff there than current generation.  That said, there's also little doubt that current generation stuff does very well.  Our long-running Halo networks, for example, have been extremely popular over the years with each new Halo.

I'm not sure how many of you caught my interview on the Retro League podcast, but what I said there is how I've felt since the first day I signed on to work on the show over a decade ago and I believe it is the feelings of the majority of the group.  We don't want the show to be pigeonholed as JUST a retro show, JUST an arcade show, or even JUST a vendor's market.  We've been just a bit lax on the modern stuff lately and I think we'll do some more next year.  I doubt it comes at the expense of anything someone here would miss, and it certainly won't have any bearing on something like a DHG room or E2M room (i.e., the two big rooms in the playable museum area.)

Now, I really don't want to say any more than that because I'm touching on things that we're not even sure about how it will turn out just yet.  I think what changes are made, however, probably won't even register with many retro fans but should be a welcome change for folks seeking something new.

JD, you having any luck with your MGC 2012 video? I am looking forward to that.

Video was edited a long while ago, but I was never happy with the voice over.  Lately I've been too busy with interviews and packing that I haven't had a good chance to do anything with it.  I still have my microphone and of course my PC is still not packed yet, so hopefully soon-ish.

Take your time. I am sure it will come out good. :)

Can't wait - had a blast in 2012. Already got vacation days blocked off.

I'm living in downtown Milwaukee now so i'll literally be like 10-15 mins away from the Sheraton. Might be bringing some of the arcade collection next year.

*quick bump* to ask if there was anyone else interested in helping set up the MGC 2013?  We could always use more people to help make the show better, so if you're interested, please PM me.
