Really interesting news !!! Does this mean the coming back of PC ENGINE style gaming.

Obviously why Hudson should care about RAM apart from building a new system ??? We're hearing on the news that Sony and Microsoft start to talk about their future system PS3 and Xbox Next. If Hudson has selected the 1T-SRAM technology it's because they already built a prototype tested and validated mosys technology to be used in it. Just as Nintendo did with the Dolphin.

But we haven't heard about NEC yet, we know they are still in the gaming industry, they did the graphic chip for the Dreamcast and part of the Flipper for the Gamecube.

Another phenomenon is the enthusiasm around the pc engine and the PC-FX legacy, There isn't such a game system like the PCE that has so much been talked about. That's probably one factor that Hudson is considering because they know that if they are coming back with NEC/HE system they would catch quite an audience. Including me.

This is a rather optimistic view, this licensing agreement  could probably mean nothing but a hypergapfx would definitely refresh a bit the VG industry.

I've been thinking about naming conventions though. Hypergrafx would be ok, but I think it should be called something really new and cool like NEC FX-1 IMG

The imaginary system will be using a NEC SX-6 Vector cpu running at 1 GHz and able to do 30 GFLOPS. The gpu will be co-developed with HE and Bitboys having eDRAM and vertex and pixal shaders. The optical drive will be based on the NEC/Toshiba nextgen HD DVD blue laser format IMG

Also a very interesting fact I found was that NEC is currently working with Bitboys on a mobile 3D graphics chip with embedded memory to be used in a device launching in 2nd half of 2003 IMG

it is possible for them to just be developing hardware for the other companies too ya know.

remember it was NEC that made the processor for the DC.  Hardware research does not denote that company releasing a system.  Hell, matshushita has made some $$$ from just dev'ing hardware.

actually, NEC worked with Videologic on both the PC (PCX1,2) and DC/NAOMI (PowerVR2DC aka CLX) PowerVR chipsets. 

the main technology of PowerVR was developed by Videologic. NEC worked with VL on some design aspects, getting it into workable chips, and all the manufacturing.

Not unlike Flipper in Gamecube, which was designed by ArtX and Nintendo, with assistance from NEC (and MoSys & S3)
and manufactured by NEC.
