10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Does anyone know somewhere to get a copy of Space Fantasy Zone at a reasonable price..?

I have seen them for sale here...
http://sapphire.anime4ever.de/

And I have read the threads regarding him marketing the homebrew of Rockman, so I am bit reluctant to buy anything from him especially as I have no idea who he is.
https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=11691.0

But I would really like to have a nice copy of Space Fantasy Zone and don't want to get ripped off, like the ones I have seen on eBay for over £100
So if anyone know where to get a copy or has one they might want to pass on, then please let me know.

Cheers.

You shouldn't buy the Rockman game from this or any other seller. It is illegal. Not even the person who programmed the homebrew in first place can sell it much less an opportunist.

Burn it yourself or wait ('til the end of time?  :( ) for me to booty-ize it.

Don't worry I did not plan on buying Rockman.. as nice as it is, it is not a PCE game. I only want SFZ as it was a planned release so would was at least going to come out officially.

I do actually have a CD-R of it, but I would like one of the 'official' looking ones just at a reasonable price.... and not from the guy selling Rockman.

Well the "nice" ones are all made by anime4ever, so wherever you buy them he is getting paid. He advertises them for 49 Euros. I'm not up on the current conversion rates, but I'm pretty sure that's a lot less than 100 GB pounds. Traditionally, many people have negotiated better prices from him, but his prices have also been fluctuating. I got a decent deal from him within the last year, but I also bought one of each PCE game at once.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

I already have an original Sapphire and I am not interested in Rockman (although it does look like a nice package) so probably not much negotiating for one game. :(

But the price is good and if that is the case that most of the SFZ are his then maybe i'll drop him a mail... is he a trusted seller then...?

You realize that SFZ was never released, right? And that every copy in existence is a CD-R, right? So why are you willing to pay anything at all when you already have a CD-R?

Yeah of course I do... but it does look very nice and from what I can gather is properly pressed CD... not a CD-R. Besides it would be nice to have a copy the advert and previews from the PC Engine magazines.

Is it any different to people paying 400+ euros for Bang 2 Busters or Treasure of the Caribbean on the Neo Geo...?

But I know what you mean and that is why I did not really want to pay that price and hence why I posted this thread.

The SFZ comes on a (well-made) color-printed CD-R. It's NOT a pressed CD!
But the inlay, poster, backprint etc. are of a very good quality - and it looks very nice in the shelf. So for me it was totally worth the money.
As already said - if you like to have one of these, you won't come around supporting Tobias in any way. But if you eventually decide to get it, just make him an offer. I bought mine for far less than officially offered.

See, you'd think it was a pressed CD since the same guy sold pressed CDs of Sapphire, but sadly his quality standards have gone way down and his price has gone way up. Its a CD-R.

Save the money from this bootleg and buy a printer.

Well, yeah, in a lot of ways. It takes a LOT more money to manufacture a Neo game than a CD-R. $90 for a CD-R is a much higher margin than a bootleg Neo cart brings. Depending on the Mega Shock level, it might cost a couple hundred bucks for the EPROMs. Then there is the price of the sacrificial cart, and the level of expertise needed to actually manufacture the things (they are a lot harder to make than a one click burn).

Yeah of course manufacturing wise they are worlds apart... I was just comparing the games as they are all non-official games released to the respective gaming communities. But yes I agree price wise it is extortionate and that is exactly why I started this thread to find out if there was anywhere else to get this nice looking package a ta better price.

But anyway, as it goes I do actually have an Epson R200 printer that prints onto CDs so I could quite easily print up the CD to look nice. The problem arises that however much I scour the internet, I cannot any decent scans of the SFZ artwork without watermarks blazoned through them. If you know of anywhere to get them, then please let me know as that would definitely satisfy my needs for now. The only one I could find is the wallpaper on pcengine.co.uk

Besides the last thing I want to do is waste money on it as I still have many games to get to complete my 'official' collection.

Yeah, this is a problem. Didn't somebody here buy the game and scan the art? If not, would someone please do so? Considering this guy is selling bonknut's game without permission or even credit, I don't see why we can't scan his SFZ mockups and give them away for free.

I will be scanning all of the anime4ever games and hosting them, but I've been busy and it's honestly lower priority than other projects. But if no one else does them all in the meantime, I will eventually.
