I'm almost tempted to take abunch of my rare games to Gamestop when they start taking old school games for trade in again. I would really like to see what they would give me or anyone else for that matter a complete Turbo Collection. I think that's something ill prolly do for laughs lol.

Anyone else curious about this?

They probably be guided by ebay prices, then buy it from ya at half that price and then sell it for double the price.

Half? This is gamestop. They'd give you pocket change so you can take the return bus home.

Yeah, I seriously doubt they even give you 25% of what they will ask.  Plus....they will offer store credit, and even less money for cash.

PCEngineHell

Yeah at most they will be inclined to give you 10-15 percent of going value, if youre lucky. Odds are you wont be given their current way of handling things. Also, I am not sure if the subject has been broached, but part of the reason why they would want to get into classic gaming now probably has to do with future systems moving towards pushing digital media and multiplayer single use licenses, etc. Game stop will always need something solid they can sell, so this is w=one way of ensuring their future in the gaming market.

Anyone would be crazy to sell retro games at Gamestop when you can sell it on ebay directly to collectors and cut out the middle man. I'm guessing Gamestop is hoping to prey on someone clueless enough to walk into one of their stores with a CIB copy of something like Magical Chase or Earthbound and walk out with 15 bucks.

Though it would be pretty funny to walk into Gamestop with a bunch of expensive games and pretend you didn't know what they were worth just to see how they'd react.

They want to get into the retro game market. Their CEO had this long interview with Joystiq and he told them that it's something he wants to do as an online only thing. I think they'll do well from the people who don't know better but the people who are on forums like this one will be smarter and either take advantage when they list rare games for way below what they're worth and then laugh as they try to sell commons for above market value.

CPTRAVE

Well if they have old retro games just sitting around why not sell them off, why hold on to them collecting dust?

rsa2000

They need to release these imprisoned games from there dark prison.  Im curious to see what happens with this.

NecroPhile

They'll give jack squat, of course.  Leopards don't change their spots.

Gamestop isn't going to give jack. They will give less then even the mom and pop type shops and smaller chains do, which is next to nothing also. The main sources for classic gaming is still going to be ebay, Amazon, small stores and franchises, and forums, at least for the next few years anyway unless something drastic happens.

I hope gamestop gets blown up by terrorist atari fans

and then Funcoland can come back.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

geise

They'll give you jack and shit, then turn it around as fucking platinum or gold. [-(

I have a similar fantasy, I kind of want to get at job at GameStop just so that when some douchebag wanabe big timer comes in with his collection I can tell him to shove it straight up his ass.

"Twentyfive cents!?! But this is Pac Man for the Atari! They stopped making Atari before I was even born."

"You, Pac Man, the 2600, and your sealed copy of Final Fantasy VII can fuck yourself. Stop wasting my time. I have to move 12 more Edge cards today or I won't get my nickle raise this year."

Too many copies of some old PS1 or N64 games in the warehouse? Into the dumpster they go.

T.A.P.

You realize anything they have sitting around in a warehouse is likely to just be some scratched-up/refurbished disc only PS1 sports titles and ex-rental cart-only shovelware N64 games with mauled labels, right?

Go to your local Gamestop and look at what they have for PSP, PS2, and Gamecube, if your store is fortunate enough to even still carry those. You'll find a bunch of awful, unwanted games in terrible condition. Anything worthwhile will have been picked through and bought months if not years ago at this point. 99% of anything worthwhile they had for old systems would have been sold when they firesaled this stuff originally.

As for trading in old stuff, I remember how they once tried to sell me a PS2 copy of Silent Hill 2 where some fucktard had carved his name into the data side of the disc. Or the time as a kid they sold me two obviously broken NES games that were missing large chunks of their casings.

Gamestop has never card about the condition of the item you trade in (and neither did FuncoLand for the majority of its existence in these parts). Hell, the local stores around here still throw away cases and manuals on older games under a certain price in the name of saving space, apparently unaware that doing so will make it even harder for them to sell those games (because people like me wont buy an incomplete game). They'll give you the same $2 store credit for your Earthbound regardless if its CIB or a mangled, yellowing, stained, sticker-cover, missing-label POS with parts of the casing missing.

RegalSin

I hate gamestop, because the people their look so out of it. I mean seriously, it makes me so angry. Funcoland was cool, why can't they just bring back funcoland, and throw gamestop in the garbage.

Calling your store Gamestop is like calling it Beer No!!! or No Beer!!!! or even No Vag!! or No Gun!!!!  They should just call it Stop Gaming, all together......I mean seriously, man in the year 2040 They are just going to replace gamestop with an outddor disc dispencer. That is how dickless eeverything is now.

Seriously Stop Gaming, your number one place to stop gaming.
