Hello TG-16 enthusiasts,

I have a TGFX-CD unit that I'm trying to repair so I can play my old CD-ROM games again.

Sometime around 1997, I left the CD player on a thick carpet in the basement where I lived, and a huge rainstorm caused some minor flooding. The carpet got soaked, so the CD player got some moisture into the bottom of it. Even after letting it dry, it never worked again.  I had mostly moved on to new systems so I just stored it.

Earlier this year, I unpacked it, and found this site, so I thought I'd try to fix it. I replaced all the Caps with the guide here(many were leaking), and it now:

-Starts up, spins, and shows a "0" on the led display with an audio CD in it

The first time I do it, it will stop by itself after like 30 seconds, but after that it will keep spinning indefinitely, even if I hit stop(which turns off the led display light).

I can see laser light coming from the lens, and it will move along the track, and up, and down.

Any help with a solution to my problem would be appreciated, even if it means sending it to someone to finish fixing it.

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks for the help.

Should I go with the KSS-225A even though, after opening the CD back up, the lens says KSS-220A?

Keith Courage

They are compatible. So basically you have to decide if you want a new lens or a used one. Maybe also check some other sights for a cheaper price on the kss-225a There might be a better deal elsewhere. For a used lens 15 is about as cheap as they come for used sony discmans that still work.

If ya gonna take it down to replace it, may as well get a new one.  :)

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I don't think I want to take a chance on a used one. I actually used to own a couple of the donor CD players listed in the Laundry List thread, but had to replace them when the lasers wore out.  I'll shop around.

Thanks again.
