10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Just got my console modded so I'm able to play PCE games, what are some must and good games to pick up, thanks!

NecroPhile

Since CDs don't require a region mod, I'll assume you mean hucards.  Grab Son Son II, Bomberman '94, Bomberman '93 (if you don't have (or want) the pricier US version), Battle Lode Runner, Hatris (maybe this one is just for retards like me), Skweek, Parodius Da!, and Wonder Momo.  The last one isn't very good, but it's cheap and worth it so you know what everyone is laughing about.
Ultimate Forum Bully/Thief/Saboteur/Clone Warrior! BURN IN HELL NECROPHUCK!!!

Yeah hu cards, I already have a little collection of Japanese cd games mostly shooters but no hu cards just Street Fighter  that I had a chopsado taped on it. But thanks for the input.

turboswimbz

I only have a few Japanese hu cards - but here are the ones I like that I have personally played:

Wonder Momo - not for everyone, but it's got a funny charm
Energy - not for everyone - platformer - a bit strange, but I liked playing through its goofy-ness
Bomberman 93 - what NecroPhile said
Power 11 - soccer but i still thought i was quite good.
Populous - just a neat game in general from that era
NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)
BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere. You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

Arkhan Asylum

This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

In addition to the suggestions above:

Download
Final Soldier
New Zealand Story

I don't have these games, but they are on my want list:

Atomic Robo Kid Special
Batman
Doraemon: Nobita in Dorabian Nights
Dragon Egg
Kiki Kaikai

hmm besides the great games others have already mentioned...

Mr. Heli and Hana Taaka Daka are lighthearted shooters, "cute-em-ups".
Gekisha Boy is an auto-scroll game where you have to take pictures of all the bizarre shit happening around you.  It's very strange, specially the oddly racist second stage.
Legend of Valkyrie is... platformer-action/rpg-ish... it's somewhere within those genres but it's a good one.

I don't believe these games were ever released in the states on other consoles, but I could be wrong.
currently playing:
PCE - Raiden
SNES - Chrono Trigger
DC - Fast Striker

PCE LP

+1, Parodius has to be one of my favs for the Turbo. Quality right there.

The other three Konami shmups (Gradius, Salamander and Twin Bee) are good also but Parodius shines. I like Dragon Saber, but some ppl have issue with the hitbox. You also have the option to buy the cheaper JP counterpart to the US release Hu's for those pricey bastards.
TG/PCE Collection.

I haven't been OBEYING lately, but here are some nice exclusives. :)

Kyuukyoku Tiger

1943 Kai

PunkCryborg

my must have pce hu cards are download, final soldier, parodius da, battle lode runner, kyukyoku tiger, w- ring, coryoon, and genji tshushun agedama.

Indeed. Also, if someone is kind enough, there are many old threads that list "the greatest PCE games" for you to scour. Once you discover a title you find interesting, feel free to read a review or consult us. :pcds:

legend of the valkyrie.
it's a fun little walking shoot em up, kinda like pocky and rocky.
nice tunes and bright colors, plus, it's pretty cheap, so yeah, buy it.

When I read "walking shoot-em-up" I thought about PsychoChaser!

NOT that I recommend it as a newbie's first grab, though... :pcgs:

Any action/adventure or platformer suggestions?  Games similar to Bonk, Keith Courage, Bloody Wolf, Final Zone II, Last Alert...pc-e or CD...

vxbinaca

- Any of the PC Gengin (PC Kid) games, though sadly I do not own one of them yet, they're basically japanese Bonk games.
- Doraemon Meikyu-daisakusen, a better take IMO on Bomberman-style games. I beat it emulated but relied heavily on save states.
- Bomberman
- World Court Pro
- Appare! Gate Ball

Trenton_net

My personal picks are common, but honest:

Splatter House
Ninja Spirit
Dracula X

bartre

Valis is great, and parts 1 and 4 are the best (and pce only, sadly)
Fushigi Yume no Arisu is pretty fun so far
Die hard is similar to last alert, though nowhere near as polished
New Zealand Story is one I think everyone should own, being that it's loads of fun, and super cheap (or at least cheap-ish)

uhhhhhhhhhhh........

Tell me about the last two?  I've heard terrible things about Gate Ball.
