@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

I just played through the  English translation of Rondo of Blood.  I noticed from to time the background music would cut out.  The sound effects would continue to work fine.  Usually after I died the music would return.  I tried cleaning the disc and the laser lens, and that seems to help for a day, but then the problem returned.  Is this a common Duo problem, easily fixed with a cap replacement?

This problem can sometimes be fixed by cleaning the old grease off the slider poles of the CD lens and applying fresh lithium type grease.

+1 to what NightWolve mentions above.

I had the same issue and re-greasing the poles solved it.

I have a hunch that the new lenses that people are fitting to Duo's are a lot more sensitive than the original part as this issue seems to be popping up a lot lately.

This is a CD tracking issue. It almost certainly has nothing to do with caps. Your laser is probably either mechanically stickier than it should be, or just old and weak. It could be fixed maybe just by tweaking pots. The problem is probably more pronounced with CDRs, maybe a better made CDR would read better.

I'm using Verbatim CD-Rs.  I could upgrade to Taiyo Yuden I suppose, but they're $$$.  I'll try greasing the sliders.

BTW, the English translation is great.  It was awesome finally understanding the game.

I have the same problem with my Tg-16 CD setup. If some one hits the table it cuts out the music. Kind of annoying. I'll have to try out these tips.

Well the hitting the table thing is normal even in perfect operating condition. For the DUO I would also say to regrease the lens track and possibly adjust pot v101 to the right just barely if needed. Try just regreasing on its own first.

Yeah...CD players from 1991 don't have skip protection. Solution: don't hit the table.
