@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

The Little Mermaid :D

Love that game!

Batman Returns, which reminded me of TMNT 2 for NES.  Not a surprise, considering Konami did it.

Pinball Quest.  I got interested in this game from the recent thread about pinball games.
Basically, each screen makes you complete an objective (kill all the monsters, hit a certain door with your ball) in order to move on.
As the screen progresses upward, the playfield expands and you can move your flippers from screen to screen in order to follow the ball.
The physics were quite basic, but playable.

Speaking of which, I think Jaleco made some pretty quality games overall.  I haven't looked into the whole library, but this, Shatterhand, Astyanax, and Bases Loaded keep me entertained even to this day.  I'm sure they had some duds, but overall, they are pretty underrated in my opinion.

image fight - just picked it up along with an advantage stick - i love the 8bit music and sound fx!

MrFlutterPie

I just wanted to test out my free copy of Monopoly but I ended up sitting down and playing a full game.

That bitch Maude bankrupted me :(

A conversation with another forumer led me to firing up Faria this morning.

Not sure i know that one.  Is it a US game?  Thoughts on it?

Image Fight is hard as nails, but I can surprisingly make it farther in the NES version than the PCE version.  For that reason I like them equally (though I keep trying to get better at the PCE version...)

Last NES game I played was TMNT. It still kicks me down and then points and laughs at me.  Man, NES games are unforgiving. :D

US game, it's an action-RPG hybrid. It's well known for a particularly strange plot twist.
Its full title is Faria: A World of Mystery and Danger
It's a pretty good game overall if you're into 8-bit RPG-ish games.

I just picked Twin Cobra without knowing it was the same game as Kyukyoku Tiger.  So is kyukyoku tiger - tiger heli?  Obviously nes Tiger Heli is a totally different game - im confused!

Anyway Twin Cobra is pretty damn good nes shoot em up!  Might have something to do with the fact that i love kyukyoku tiger.

roflmao

Twin Cobra is the sequel to Tiger Heli.  Both are outstanding games for the NES. Twin Cobra is a great version of Kyukyoku Tiger.  I love how when you die you don't start of at a pre-disposed checkpoint.

turbofan1

I`ve actually played quite A few nes games lately.Rad Racer,Super Mario Bros 2,3,Double dragon I,II,Rbi Baseball.

I recall  me and my cousin beating Twin Cobra the arcade game 20+ years ago,in this little bar my gram pa used sit in. One of my fondest childhood memories.

EvilEvoIX

Mega Man 3, I will master this game one day.

albatross

thats true - i do like that you dont start at a checkpoint on twin cobra - i played it for a while last night and it seems a bit easier than the pce version - great game better than its prequel (nes tiger heli) but i do like the pce version better - long live Kyukyoku Tiger!

Psycho Punch

I played Gumshoe and Tricky Shooting yesterday... loads of fun, specially Gumshoe. You have to help a detective to rescue his daughter by making him jump by shooting at him so he can jump through obstacles and grab red ballons which give extra ammo. Pretty crazy but pretty good too.

Bonks Adventure. A decent conversion but a little too easy.

Is there any difference between NES Bonk's adventure & FC Genjin besides the substantial price difference?

Nope no real differences other than price.

I'm shocked at the price of the NES one. I bought it two years ago for about $80, cart only. I thought I overpaid. Now its easily 200-300. Not sure why.

Its a solid port though. Simple but fun.

Alright, good.  I was thinking of picking up FC Genjin because I liked Bonk's Adventure on the Turbob a lot, but I can only play it on my TE currently. :/ That & I'm in need of some good action platformers for my fami.  I've only got Metroid & Bubble Bobble currently, but I'm thinking of getting Ryuga: Ninja Crusaders, Fudomyouoden (Demon Sword), and Getsu Fuuma Den.

Also, is Nazo no Murasamejo for the FDS any good?  Looks fun...

Nazo is okay. I traded my copy to a friend here a while ago. It has that arcadey early Nintendo charm but can be frustrating. It doesn't have the soul Zelda has.

Jossshhhhh...Legendary TurboTrollX-16: He revenge-bans PCE Developers/Ys IV Localizers from PCE Facebook groups and destroyed 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Josh and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner (extortion/blackmail!), never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

the other day I was just teaching my 3yr old nephew how to play the NES, and I picked up TMNT 2, lots of fun.

That was one of the first NES games I got.  It still gives me warm fuzzies. :)

It differs quite a bit from the arcade version, though, what with the addition of the boss fights & awesome Konami-style music.  Damn...I like it so much I might have to get the FDS version, even though it's nearly identical...

maybe i need to spend some quality time on it before passing judgement

retroguy

Hammerin' Harry. I hadn't played this one before and it was a nice surprise. The controls, level design, characters, etc. were all very well done with a great sense of humor and I'd recommend it to platformer fans.
I am bad and that's good. I will never be good and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.

TheIronMango

played a bit of mega man today. Thinking of going on a marathon of beating all 6 nes games in one day haha

esteban

Spy Hunter. I only play this game to blow up the helicopters. Seriously.  :pcgs:

Just played through Legend of Zelda for the millionth time. No matter how many times I run through the last dungeon I always seem to get lost. ...and I always accidentally roll into Ganon's lair without the Light Arrows.

I recently got back into playing with RC cars again. With that said I started playing RC Pro Am again also. This on my 10 all time top favorite NES games. I would really love to actually get to play through the entire game one day. Has anyone on here ever gone through the entire game ??

Finally playing these games I couldn't get my hands on back in 91' !!! Nec fan always !!!

Years ago I did via emulator.  took a while but it was fun.
NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)
BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere. You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

CGQuarterly

R.C. Pro-Am is a great game.  I wish I could say I've played it all the way through, but have never been able to.

Mathius

I haven't played R.C. Pro Am since the 80s. I remember it being a fun game though.

I started a similar mission about 2 months ago.  My only rule is NO EBAY.
Have found these so far out in the wild.  I know Guardian Legend and Xexyz are a stretch, but they have good shooting segments.
Also, not pictured, Tailspin, Gradius, Millipede.

There are some good ones on the NES, but to achieve true 8-bit Nintendo shooty greatness, you really need to get a famicom/converter, if you haven't already.  Crisis Force, Gradius II, and Uchuu Keibitai SDF are just a few really good reasons to do so, especially Gradius II.  It outshines the first game in absolutely every possible way.

It's an NES game based off of a really lame game show with a really douchey host.

I didn't know Silkworm had a NES release.

Top Gun was a favorite of mine bitd. I remember sometimes just letting the title screen music loop because it was so awesome in that Konami kind of way. The AVGN has helped to ensure it suck status but I feel it isn't that bad.

retroguy

James Rolfe has said that he doesn't actually hate all the games he reviews, he just goes with what he thinks will be funny because AVGN is a parody of easily angered/excessively negative people. This makes it really annoying when you talk to people who say Game X is bad without ever playing it just because it was on AVGN.

Not everyone knows this though. Once a game enters AVGN territory it's eternally labeled as bad in the minds of the majority.
