I always forget that Hitoshi Sakimoto did some of the music for Magical Chase.  I however, have never forgotten that he also did some of the music for Verytex.

Yes as well to this being $100 on ebay day one.

I think that I would like to get one also.  Maybe someone would like to do a group buy to save shipping or something?

hmm if it cut the shipping cost down, id definitely be interested in the group buy idea.

Yeah, the group buy sounds like a decent idea. Especially considering Bardoly, ElSeven and I (the first three people to comment on this) are all local to one another.

Yeah, it would probably save on shipping if one of us here in the Chicago area were to order a bulk lot of 10-20 (however many people want), then just mail them out from here.  The difference in international versus domestic shipping should save us some $.  I would be willing to either give $ up-front to someone willing to do so (I nominate you, Dragonmaster Dan.   :-"  ), or to be the one to do the ordering if this were something which people would like to do.

Just got mine in the mail from a domestic CD service.

I can take pics if anyone's interested. It's fairly nice package, and the CD has a pretty sunset picture on it. It's also got liner notes that I can translate later.

Here's a sample to check for sound quality. (Mods, let me know if this is breaching any rules). I'd encode it to MP3, but my usual program is flaking out over the Japanese title:

Since no one else volunteered to head this up, I guess it's me.   I'm going to check with the owner of a local otaku store and see if he can order this any cheaper.  If so, then I'll post up here and then see who is still interested in a group buy.  If not, then I'll see about ordering a box of them.

If this could be commercially released, shouldn't that mean that the rights to at least the PC Engine version of the game could be tracked down for a potential re-release?
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Potentially, sometimes the composer owns the rights to the soundtrack to games though. And that might be the situation here, for example I know post Falcom Yuzo Koshiro work is generally owned by Yuzo and has caused games like Streets of Rage to be left off of collections in various territories as they had to separately license the music from Yuzo.

makes sense....

Where are you able to order two different versions?  I'm only seeing the one option at the linked website.

Edit:  Never mind, I found it.  Apparently, they have the regular CD version for 2500 yen (about $26.50), and a 'collectible' version (about $46.00).

Bardoly

Well, my Otaku store contact didn't pan out, so I contacted CD Japan today about a discount on a bulk purchase.  Hopefully they'll get back with me by tomorrow about the possibility.

It does look as though one person ordering this by himself will cost over $40 shipped directly to himself, where a group purchase including shipping inside the U.S. could be as cheap as $32 (bubble mailer) or $35 small flat rate box.  I can set up a group purchase, but we would probably need at least 10 to want to do so.  I'll get back to all later as I get more information.

So was that the regular version or the "collectible" edition?

Bardoly

Well, I'm still communicating back and forth with CD Japan about a possible multi-purchase discount.  I'm also trying to figure out what the difference between the 'regular' and 'collectible' releases.  Once I have the difference determined, then I'll start a Group Buy thread and verify who still wants to do this.  I'm sure that doing a group buy with at least 10 orders placed will save everyone $5-10 (more if more people sign up) on this because of the international shipping charges.

Well Shadow, I have bad news for you.
I have been e-mailing back and forth with CD Japan, and after asking what the differences were between the cheaper version and the more expensive version, here's my question...

...And here's the answer that I finally got.

QuoteHi,

Thank you for your mail.

The two CDs are the same.

The more expensive one was a customized order
via our personal shopping service where we purchase items from
other websites which are not sold at our website with additional commission.

At that time we did not sell the product below at our website
so we had a request from a customer to purchase it from another website.

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=SRIN-1108

Unfortunately we are not aware of the wholesale policies of other websites
so you will have to directly contact them to find that out.
We do not offer at wholesale prices.
We only give out reward points after the purchase.

Sincerely,
Mana Miyamoto

:(  - I was kind of hoping that there was a 'collectible' release with something really cool packaged with the soundtrack.

Hopefully you can get a refund of the difference in price.
