Hey folks. This is my first PCE project that I've started hacking. It's Mashin Hero Wataru, the Japanese version of Keith Courage. The translator said the game was shit as well as the script, but I know at least one person who likes the game. I'm impartial though, but it does strike me as being a tad shitty. I don't care though, I just hack 'em.

Anyway, the first draft of the script is finished, but it needs a good amount of editing. I'm in the process of downloading the entire 1st anime series and will be editing the script once I've worked my way through the multitude of episodes and am familiar with the series. I've also inserted the script and fit it all in with some text compression I added. I've also been able to figure out the whole graphic format of the title screen and will be hacking a new design in once I get it. All that's left is to insert the ending, which I need to get to before I can hack it. Here's a screenshot of a WIP with unedited and unformatted text.

A release is still months away though.

Not my favorite game, but still sweet that you're doing this none the less! I recall talking to Tom/Mal/Bonknuts a few years back about the idea of taking the Wataru Famicom RPG, porting it to the Turbo, translating it, giving it a facelift(& earlift-music), & calling it the Keith Courage RPG!

It never happened, but maybe someday.

I'm not sure I understand why anyone would re-translate this, but cheers for hacking some PCE stuff.

This translation came about as the translator and I had a general interest in translating games in the Wataru series and I was looking for a game to familiarize myself with the PCE and Mednafen's debugger. The Keith Courage game wasn't a really a translation per se, most of it seems to have been just made up in fact, so it might as well be another game in my opinion. Also this game was almost like hacking an NES game, which was a very easy process for me. All the other hucard games I looked had their fonts stored in some weird/compressed format that would require additional work for a translation.

Do you like child porn? (Ok, that's probably not a fair question, so let me explain.) Wataru's like 9 years old and Nurse Betty is supposed to be Himiko, this little girl that's like 5 or 6. She's quite infantile/simple. Glad to your support though.

Especially because none of them look like they're 5-9ish. How the hell is a 5 year old a nurse, anyways. The whole thing makes no sense.

Wataru is apparently the most badass 9 year old ever. Most 9 year olds would piss their pants and cry in the corner the second a giant robot with a gun for a head comes running at them.

and I mean, really, if that's the case. He's 9, so the monsters are all about 3-4 feet tall. Why don't the adults just step on them.

I fully support the effort. It would probably be the only reason I'd play through the game again (well, for a decade, at least).

So I'm confused. Is this a re-translation of keith courage for the Tg16 or a translation of the NES keith courage game?

It's a more faithful translation of the original PCE Wataru...it turns out the TG-16 text was fabricated (not surprising, really).

I would stick to being as faithful to the original as possible (i.e. bottom one, but move 'Wataru' to the right a bit).
