Quote from: guest on 04/18/2013, 05:10 PMIt's a pity that NEC Avenue couldn't sort themselves out, every time I hear their attempt at drum sounds, vomit pours out of my ears.
Agreed that NEC Ave could have done a lot better with their music on their HuCard games but I do feel Altered Beast (juoki) is pretty darn good with the drum banging on that and I had been convinced for a while but decided to agree that it's not sampled.

I believe that Tokimeki Memorial is the only CD game I've found, which seems to use standard samples within chiptunes, instead of adpcm. It might have been a similar title, but I'm pretty sure that's the one. There are segments with streaming adpcm dialogue while the full chip track plays, without it all bejng pre-recorded like some of YS IV's dialogue.

I haven't played it in a dog's age but I seem to remember Genji Tsushin Agedama having sampled drums. The stage one theme is a real ear worm. Pure sex. Don't dare listen without a towel.

I agree that it's an ear worm.  I've had it & the stage 1 music from Son Son II stuck in my head for the past week.

However, I'm pretty certain the drums are still chip-produced.

Nah, sounds like standard PCM to me.
What's odd, is that years ago before actually owning the game, I had a dream about it, & was blasting the music to a friend or something, & IN that dream it had some really dope sampled drums!

Haha nope sadly.  I am certain the only Namco game to use sample drums is dragon saber.  They do have a pretty good sound engine on most of their games tho.

Damn!

I quit.

They must have had a good sound engine since there isn't a shred of "Tinny-ness" in its drum sounds.

I was really shocked at how good the drum samples are in Dragon Slayer Legend of Heroes.  So good I think they might be better than coryoons.... :O

Also although this topic is mostly about hucards with drum samples..since ya added a little list of CD-rom games with drum samples I might also want to add NEMURENU YORU NO CHIISANA OHANASHI YUKO HARA which seems to have sampled percussion stuff, and this game is so cute and upbeat I am actually blushing from how sugar coated this game is.

ParanoiaDragon

I wish the 2nd Legend of Heroes game also used sampled drums, that kinda bugged me that they didn't stick to that.

I think Gaia no monshou too has samples although cannot quite tell from the youtube vids.

also Snatcher CD-ROMantic

Digi.k

I think world jockey by Namcot 1991 could also have drum samples!  surprising as I thought Dragon Saber was their only pc engine game to have them

CrackTiger

Snatcher doesn't use samples.

I still can't be bothered to put together a proper list, but here are some off the top of my head that might not have been posted:

I could have sworn the stuff on snatcher sounds like those found on tokimeki memorial, those youtube vids gave me that impression after watching a few.

Also really surprised with the operation wolf too.  Those samples are sparsely used!

I just want to know if there's more than one track to Andre Panza. I played through it over 20 years ago and can't remember.

The title screen track out-SNESes the SNES version, so it would be interesting to hear any other tracks that might be in it. I plan to play through it again now, but I'm not sure when I'll have time to learn it and make it all the way through in one sitting.

so why is the japanese version or Andre Panza disc only ? and is the music the same as the hucard or redbook audio ?

Plus does anyone have any codes for hidden music test on world jockey ?

I have both the US & Jp versions.  The Jp version(The Kick Boxing) just has some fairly bland renditions of the same songs.  I just went & ripped the disc, here's what's on it:

Track 1: Standard Jp warning
Track 2:data
Track 3:Introductory cinema with a guy probably talking about the long history of kick boxing or something
Track 4:Sounds like the exact same as Track 3
Track 5:Another Cinema, this one is a guy doing various moves, & says in bad English "Hey you, come one, ret's fight!"
Track 6:same as Track 5
Track 7:That Rocky'esque victory theme
Track 8:Ending Cinema/Credit theme as far as I can tell without going & beating the game, I can't recall the US versions theme, since I only beat it once but I assume this is the same song
Track 9:Rejoice! For this is the same as Track 8, but now louder!  Yay!
Track 10: the High Score theme
Track 11:Some sort of victory theme, sounds familiar, maybe it's when you you've beaten Panza?
Track 12:Some clapping & cheering
Track 13:Differnt clapping & cheering, & some data information at the end of the track

Some of the music tracks in Racing Damashii seem to have a drum sample.  There is a hidden music track list that can be accessed by pressing 'select' on the title screen.  Particularly track 11 - warm up and possibly track 13 - Team R.D and 14 - Victory

I still can't be bothered to put together a proper list, but here are some off the top of my head that might not have been posted:

Operation Wolf
Yami no Ketsuzoku
Cyber City OEDO 808
Andre Panza Kickboxing
I'm still unsure about this.
