I have had it up to here with these two new guys we got hired this past month. 30 minute breaks every 2 hours, late to work every day, arrogant, refuse to do help desk tickets and want to fucking argue about EVERYTHING. Hell I about strangled this guy when he said a machine had issues when all it was his stupid wireless keyboard and mouse. About the only thing Harold and Kumar have done is setup a conference room laptop that they spent a day on and push out Office 365. I have had it up to here with these idiots and if I were in charge both of them would have been shit canned by now. Oh yeah did I mention when 5:00 hits they go home regardless if there is a important job they are working on that requires it to be done that day? Jesus Christ, they are supposed to help me not hinder. To make matters worse the other guy is taking a two week paid vacation in the middle of our busiest season in July. I am so done dealing with lazy schmucks...

Arkhan Asylum

cut those mother fuckers
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

BigusSchmuck

QuotePreach it, brother!  I feel like i just read something I may well have written verbatim at some point.  Do they sleep on the job and spend most of their waking moments on Facebook?  If so, we might be working at the same place.
Not that I'm aware of. But if they do blood shall flow. I'm not sure why one of them is hell bent on going back to prebuilt systems instead of having our shop take care of it. We can do it for cheaper and better. I guess they don't like seeing pc parts in the shop... Maybe if I'm lucky the boss will actually do his job for once and take care of Harold and Kumar. They already pissed off the Helpdesk lady by deleting categories they shouldn't be getting into. Ugh.

Tatsujin

Lol, how old are they? 13 & 14?

Why does the boss not interact?

Useless lowlifes.

Sounds like you just work with two shit balls.  I feel bad for the IT guys at my office.  It's the other way around.  There's so much bull shit and red tape they have to deal with.  I feel sorry for them.  They are really nice and are severely overworked.  As NecroPhile said you have a lazy boss problem that needs to alleviated.

roflmao

OMG, I came here to rant here as well!  Fuck people.  Why do so many have to be such assholes?  I've got a website client right now that is the most difficult I've ever dealt with (and I've been doing this for a long time).  I honestly don't comprehend how people get get so far in life and behave so ignorant that they are offensive.  The world would be a better place if there weren't so many assholes.  Fucking wake up already.

Argh.

Hes busy doing meetings. If he took the time to actually manage the department instead of letting these two sit around and do nothing things would be a bit better. Today wasn't too bad as I was out of the office most of the day (thank god) but the poor help desk gal had to go move equipment around for a remodel by herself! Horrible. Oh yeah the "network administrator" thought it was a good idea to stress test the network by doing all these stupid scans and wondered why we had literally hundreds of phone calls asking why their pcs were so slow. To top things off Kumar thought it was a good idea to argue with me why he wanted a new kvm switch even though we had two that worked fine (1 was ps2 and the other had 2 usb ports). I told him it wasn't a debate class and we should use what we got. The boss went ahead and ordered it anyway. And people wonder why we have so much stuff in storage. Harold and Kumar need to go. Enough said.

I wouldn't have to work 60 hours a week sometimes more if these idiots actually helped me out. Thankfully I had the help desk lady assign more tickets to them more of a revenge thing really seeing they didn't help her at all.
Quote from: Opethian on 05/30/2013, 04:08 PMsounds like jealousy to me
Yeah if I took 30 minute breaks every two hours and showed up late for work every day that would be swell now wouldn't it? I guess they shouldn't be paid salary. At least with hourly my bosses can actually see when they are doing this.
I have worked hard labor for most of my adult life and I haven't met two people who were so lazy. If these guys can't do something simple like support the customers then why the hell are they in IT? Don't get me started on why they don't want to learn AS400 stuff even though its the bane of the IT departments existence..
Quote from: guest on 05/30/2013, 09:55 AMHave you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?
Funny you should say that, had to do that to one of the "affected" pcs from the "network administrator" scans he did.

I feel your pain.  I swear at 5am at our office a short yellow bus pulls up and all of west region takes off their helmets and comes in to report to work.  I feel like strangling people all day long.

Well I made the mistake of firing off a email to him on Friday and they threatened me with my job. Luckily the number 2 in the company stopped that from happening so all I got was a verbal warning in my work record. Jesus Christ, I guess its ok to have lazy fucking idiots to work with. Copy of the following e-mail:
"I realize you are very busy today but there are some things I need to get off my chest. First off, since when was it okay to come into work late and take 30 minute breaks every 2 hours? Why should the new guys be exempt from following the rules and the rest of us have to bust our ass to get our work done? Hell, B***** and myself don't even take a hour lunch, we both take 30 minute lunches in order to keep up with the daily burn. I live 23 miles away and I'm rarely late (yet Tyson lives 6 blocks away and is late almost every day).  Secondly, since when was it okay that C***, B*** and myself do most of the help desk tickets? I realize Tyson today made an attempt to do some of them, but Brandon hasn't even started on his! If we are going to work together as a team there needs to be a balance of help desk tickets and projects. I feel that everyone in the department should have at the very least a basic understanding of all the systems we use especially when it comes to getting our on call schedule back on track. I'm more than willing to walk the new guys through on this. Thirdly, where the hell is the communication? I found out today that Brandon is looking into a Dell solution and a remote solution to replace Parsec. Shouldn't we all at the very least weigh in on our opinions before we make a final decision? Fourthly, why is Brandon doing network scans during business hours? We are getting help desk tickets left and right due to slow network issues (look at the one in Feedville about the phone issue..) and I know Parsec can't be doing all of this as this didn't start happening until Brandon got hired on. It causing more work and costing productivity when he does these intensive scans. Lastly, R*** you need to be more accessible. I know it isn't your job to baby sit and I know you are busy doing managerial things, but damnit we need to be more of a team instead of having the old team vs new team. I apologize of laying this shit on you on a Friday night, but again this is something that needed to be said. I hope you have a good weekend and I apologize ahead of time for the drama that will undoubtedly unfold. "

NightWolve

I'm glad that you lucked out and a number 2 in the company spared you from getting fired! Be very careful with letting your anger at asshole coworkers lead to an outburst you might regret and cost you the job! The way to think of it here is to just keep taking your paycheck and not let these guys get to you. Assuming you care about the job, the salary you're making and if you feel you have a comfortable future there, etc. I made this mistake once and it cost me a $62k/year job... I paid for that momentary outburst of anger for quite a long time, lemme tell ya... Anyway, good luck. I'm quite familiar with this type of situation and you have my sympathies.

Thanks man. I do care about this job, put in a lot of hours to get where we are at. Basically went from non networked Pentium 2/3 pcs into networked win 7 in house built machines and much more. This is probably why I didn't lose my job as these two idiots don't even like getting their hands dirty when cleaning pcs. :P

Worked with Kumar today when we went to one of our outer sites, wasn't too bad if only he would shutup and stop saying the word "legit" in every other sentence. Good lord!

As an IT Manager I can feel your pain when you have total dickwads working in the department, or worse yet, working for you and you're told to make it work because the company is afraid of firing someone.

Thankfully after years of working at a place like that, and a few shorter jobs in between I've landed at a great place (actually supervising former subordinates of mine) that backs me up 100%, and I lay down the law. Any defects along the lines that you expressed and they're GONE. It's a ZERO defect company, and with that knowledge my guys bring their A game every single day, which takes a lot of the load off of me.

I've always found that weak management breeds lazy workers because they don't have the fear of consequences, up to and including termination.

I wish I could work for a company like that... Now the other guy wants to use a server as his own workstation and the boss is letting him do it. Makes no sense and is a waste of money, why replace replication servers when they work fine? Is it because we built them in house for $1000 each instead of spending $2400 on a dell solution thats half the machine we are replacing? I would like to see a dell representative go out in the  middle of the sticks and fix that server next day when it decides to take a dump. Not very smart at all...

I couldn't agree more with NightWolve. One has to be very careful with emails. I learned after a couple years with the company.

If the boss is not listening to reason, either a)keep things cool until you land another job, or b) talk to someone up (in a calm objective manner off course).

Option b) has the potential to backfire as (somehow) did for me (things got rough with the manager) but at the same time worked as I got me a raise back then.

Unfortunately you will see a lot of (insert word) people being overpaid while you bust your ass and are underpaid.

The key to me has been, if I don't have anything good to say then don't say anything.

If you have the need to vent, only do it with strangers (like you're doing right now). Use a (Linux) virtual machine and a good proxy.

Thanks for sharing with us.

The saga continues... So I'm on call tomorrow while Harold and Kumar get tomorrow and Friday off! What the hell? You are supposed to put in at least 30 days in advance for time off requests and yet these guys haven't even been here 2 months yet! Argh, to make matters worse I had to go out to this scale house that Kumar supposedly had setup only to find cables all over the fucking place, scale didn't work and he left the pc completely unplugged and he decides that he was done at noon today! Jesus Christ, talk about laziness! Not to bash on people who serve in the military, but the Harold is going on some sort of training the 3rd week of July and will be gone for two weeks at the height of harvest. So now once again, I'm stuck busting my ass and pulling 80 hour work weeks. Joy..
Edit: I found out that the old man is going to be on call with me. Poor guy, been with the company for 15 years and still only making 40k a year. Sad.

esadajr

Dude, you better be looking for another job and get outta there.

It's sad to see those kind of workplaces exist, but they exist and there are many of them.

I wish you the best of luck.

What kind of wireless network are they running? At the very least you should be able to filter by mac filtering and it wouldn't be too much of a problem. Problem is, nowadays everyone wants to connect their stuff to wifi and the way our network is setup is so old school. We are still using the 192.168.x.x ip scheme and continually run out of IP addresses because Kumar can't get his head out of his ass and set it to the 10.x.x.x schema. I told him with the Ubiquiti wireless setup you can use vlans to have different subnets, but what does he go and do? He goes ahead and creates a separate network instead of using vlans on the current wireless setup. Fucking dumb. Didn't even bother setting up a DMZ zone so now we have all sorts of routing issues. Calls himself the networking guru, indeed...

esadajr

Aironets 1242 / 1262 WP2 Enterprise. We have the infraestructure and experienced people.

It's a matter of politics, their policy is not to block anything unless is creating a lot of traffic, which is ridiculous.
If I have a list of potentially harmful macs, why wait until the (censored) hits the fan?

Network wise it hasn't impacted performance. However people become distracted, are not productive and may cause accidents.

Well, at least I don't have to deal with Kumar...

Pretty soon I won't have to deal with any of the Corporate IT folks. The company was sold today and either I'll have more control or I'll have to deal with other Corporate IT. Hope is the first one, I want more control / responsabilities. Give me the power!

I was IT for a local school board and got fed up setting up their desktop icons in such a way that they didn't block their kids faces in their desktop background photo... Call for for a real problem, not this! I wanted to cry every time I had to get out of a wall or suspended ceiling passing cables only to hear "can you make those thingies not block my grandson's cute little mug? Look at how cute he is! OH! & look at when he was 5! and this & that...". Wanted to die every time.

wow.  That is material you read in a joke on the net.

Yeah, I can't believe it either but school board = old people + computers... My guess is that it's not an isolated incident if you've read something similar. You'd be amazed how many old people think such nonsense, I got yelled at once for putting a shortcut to the printer on the desktop, I got accused of "breaking the cpu", not the PC, computer or whatever, but the cpu.

You think thats bad, the IT manager thought it was a great idea to force everyone's webpage to be the intranet company homepage via group policy without telling anyone about it. Not only did I get about 20 phone calls, I got a very heated director call telling me that we need to fix it right away because he wanted his Marineers homepage back. Needless to say 2 hours later he made it an option.

BigusSchmuck

Remember, when favoritism rules over hard work and dedication at a work place then its time to move on and find a better job.

jeffhlewis

My first job out of college was a Network Administration job. Getting the F out of Network Administration and into Application/DB dev was the best choice I ever made in my career. Granted, it's a whole different kind of BS you have to deal with but less of the bashing-head-on-desk variety.

It all really depends on what the company is like. But corporate BS is going to exist anywhere you go, man.
