Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself before you start seeing too much of me in the sales threads =]

I've been playing video games in one form or another for almost 30 years now.  My first introduction to the medium was my father's wood-paneled dedicated Pong console, hooked up to an ancient television with antennae clips.  I remember how exciting it was to just be able to control an image on the television.  It was beyond simplistic but it held our attention for hours all the same.  From there he would graduate to the Atari 2600 and an Odyssey 2, and that's where the problems started.  They were interesting, sure, but most of the games didn't really hold my attention for long.  They were merely toys to play with once in a while, but never my main hobby.

Then came the NES.

I still remember going to a friend's house and being let into his room.  He was sitting on the floor playing Super Mario Bros., too engrossed to even pause the game and greet me at the front door.  I felt like I'd never seen anything like it before.  It was on a completely different level than the consoles I had at home.  We took turns for a while and eventually switched to Zelda.  I was terrified of the Octoroks and kept to the edges of the screen where they rarely ventured.  I couldn't get enough.

I ended up getting the system that Christmas.  I blame the suggestiveness of my young age, the pervasive popularity of the system, and the genius marketing of Nintendo Power for what happened next.  I spent the next few years being fiercely loyal to Nintendo.  I still remember the outrage I experienced when Sega's advertising started going for the jugular with the Nintendon't ads.  I would NEVER support that company!

That lasted until around the N64.  I was a good deal older at this point and could tell that Nintendo had dropped the ball, hard, and that there was a whole different world of video games out there I had been missing out on.  It was a paradigm shift for me, and it would end up being only the first of many.

My first non-Nintendo console was the PlayStation.  It was so foreign and awkward at first, but eventually grew to have one of the best libraries of any console.  My fanboy loyalty had completely eroded.  From there I got swept up into the Dreamcast.  I still love that system dearly, and it's what first changed my mind about Sega.  With the Dreamcast as my gateway console I would then back into the Saturn, an amazing system that got me started on heavy importing.  I lucked into a free Genesis/Sega CD/32X console and some games while working at Electronics Boutique in the mall, and would eventually grow to greatly appreciate those systems.  The Sega CD especially.  It's easily one of the most underrated consoles around and one of my favorites.

Eventually I'd grow to own nearly all of the post-NES consoles and over a thousand games but...

I didn't buy a Turbografx 16 until THIS YEAR.  TWENTY-THIRTEEN.  I first held the controller in my hands at age 33, and was surprised at what a high quality controller it really was.  I just played and beat Legendary Axe 1 and 2, Ninja Spirits, Keith Courage, and Bonk's Adventure and Revenge this year, for the first time ever, and I loved them (well, maybe Keith not so much).  I've actually gone a little overboard and have managed to rack up a respectable pile of US games in a very short amount of time.  I've even upgraded to a Turbo Duo that was traded to my friend's store and will most likely be region modding it very soon...

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and give a quick overview of my experiences.  This is already long enough as it is, I just don't want anybody to think I'm a reseller or some young punk fly-by-night collector.  Every game I own is opened, and every game I own has or will be played and enjoyed.  That's what they're for.  If anyone is curious I've actually started keeping track of what I own on Backloggery.  Hopefully that links right to my page.

This is a big part of why I love this hobby:  every time you think you're hot shit you realize there are people out there who know way more than you and there are always unplumbed depths and infinite rabbit holes to chase through and get lost in.  If the next generation of consoles fail and no new video games are made, ever, there still exist more games than can ever be played in a lifetime.

But I'm still going to try.

Nice history.  You have a LOT of great games waiting to be discovered, especially once you have your Duo region-modded.  I don't know where you're located, but there will be a Turbo event in October, called Octurbofest.  If you're close enough, then try to come.

AAAAHHHHH I lived in Schaumburg, IL for around 6 years before coming back to Miami a few months ago =[

I still go back pretty often, and I've been dying to go to some retro conventions so maybe something will work out.
