Celebrating over 25 years of Ys, the flagship series of Japanese RPG publisher Nihon Falcom! Ys: The Art Book collects the fantastic artwork of more than a dozen titles in the Ys franchise, from the original game all the way up to the brand-new Ys: Memories of Celceta. Includes pinups, character designs, rare concept art, and more!

Current price is only about $30 with a size of about about 280 pages.  This looks pretty slick to me, but I am a sucker for art books!  According to other info I've seen though it actually releases on Jan 1, 2014.

That's cool, thanks for posting about it, x5x. This probably would've flown under the radar for me if I hadn't seen your post. I don't keep up with Ys related news as much as one would think, even as the king of Ys fan-translation patches.

Sadler

Mine finally arrived today. Very cool stuff! :D

Sweet!  My brother in law got me this for Christmas so that means my copy should be arriving soon too!

Woah. Don't you got tracking on the package ? I guess this is tricky since you're buying direct from Falcom, but it takes nowhere near this long say if you had tried to buy something from them via the Email method. I try to teach it with this Falcom Weekly Special feature. People aren't fans of sending a CC # via email though, but that's the only way in some cases to get certain games and other stuff like soundtracks, etc. Anyway, that took 3-6 weeks in the past, not no months... Oh well.

Alright Sadler, up to you to scan and upload for us. No pressure. ;)

Sadler

I think I got a tracking # at some point, but I've pretty much got a constant stream of stupid Amazon Prime items arriving. No scans, how about a potato pic though? :D

NightWolve

Ah, 280 pages... Yeah, that would be quite a scan project. ;) Well congrats, you're quite a collector. It'd be cool to have it, but I can't reach a "I MUST HAVE THIS!" position and actually buy it. I'll look at it once, then it'd go on a shelf... I do like having a variety of Ys artwork handy in JPEG form, possibly for use in say future patch software, but I have lots of artwork already.

Keranu

Anyone got any pics of some of the older Ys artwork for the original PC88/MSX games? Very tempted to buy this book!

Since this is just a translation of the Japanese version, the JP entry of it on Amazon gives a decent idea (I think) of what to expect because there are some sample pages on there:

I would never have known about this book if it weren't for this thread.  :pcgs:

This is a gorgeous art book. I imported the JPN version when it was released. Also ordered this one which arrived yesterday. Unfortunately I haven't had the time to compare them to each other. My only gripe is that I wished there was more of the older YS art showcased. The JPN only Falcom 30th Chronicle and YS Data File both contained higher amounts of retro Ys art.

xcrement5x

So I figured out where my copy is!  It's in IL with my sister and brother in law!

I guess when they ordered it they thought it would show up in time for Christmas, so they had the original shipping address sent to them.  Then when it finally came out it showed up on their door the other day.

Thankfully I'll be going back there in May for family stuff, but I wish I had it now!

Ah, so would you have bought it if it wasn't a gift ?

Totally, I was actually debating getting another copy last week since I didn't know where the "gift" copy was.  But I mentioned it to my sister and she told me about it sitting in their house.

I went to Amazon to try buying it and it said that I had to sign up for an account. So I went to eBay instead and bought it new/sealed for less plus free shipping.

The print quality is amazing and the artwork is reproduced so well that it's like looking at the books that come with the original computer versions of the early Ys games. I don't care about the newer Ys games, pretty much only the stuff through Dawn of Ys + Eternals. But it looks like they might have actually included every piece of artwork from all the Falcom versions of Ys - III, plus their soundtracks. Nothing from Dawn of Ys though.

Now people can have pics of brown haired chubby western Adol without tracking down the ancient computer games :)

I've been working on an "Ys Goods" video series that will have it's own mini site. I'll show every page of the book in 1080p video at least. Hard to believe the size and quality considering the price. Best of all, the English printing is very minimal. The most anti "moon language" people will be fine with the Japanese version, since there's not much of any English to miss out on.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Also got this a couple weeks back, I agree great quality and very cool, I was a little disapointed that there was not more older stuff in it (compared to all the new stuff) I still enjoyed it though since I played through all the pc games when they were translated (before steam). also if I were to get nitpicky I personaly would of like to had a little more info/text on the art and a little info on the games.

Thanks for all the info. Now I want this book even more.

But, please, can you share a nice scan of Chubby Western Adol (CWA)? I would love a high quality scan. Thank you in advance, comrade.  :pcgs:

I'd have to cut up the book to do decent scans. I can probably scan the original PC-88 Ys book better, but this is how it turned out last time:

Finally got my copy from my sister!

Ys the Artbook posed all classy like on my media cabinet.  The book display is normally used for my wife's copy of "The Sky: The Art of Final Fantasy" but I did a quick substitution for this photo.  :D
