Many years ago I posted a thread on here asking what the Arena in Dungeon Explorer II is all about? I originally wrote a FAQ on game faqs for this game I published back in 2004, asking for assistance with no leads whatsoever. Here is a link, and please don't comment on the writing quality of this... I wrote this before my college days....

http://www.gamefaqs.com/turbocd/589273-dungeon-explorer-ii/faqs

So... I am about to get another copy of this game soon. I want to revise my whole FAQ and get it looking good. But I still don't have a Duo-Tap, and only 3 controllers.

Does anyone know what the arena in Dungeon Explorer II, is? If it unlocks any special characters or weapon upgrades? If it is a special Dungeon or PVP Arena? Of if it is just a way for people to input their passwords and get some 5 player action going through the story?

I will give credit as due if anyone has any information. I have looked on youtube, google, bing etc.. and have found nothing of relevance to what the Arena actually is/does.

I remember it being a PvP (player verses player) zone where your damaging shots and spells will hurt others in your party.  Only zone in the game that allows it and I think the orifinal game as well.  Don't think any characters unlock by using it....

Any more info on this?

I just did a test on this, Flare is right this room just allows PVP matches as damage is taken between the characters. It works with as many players as you want, so 1 v 1 or 5 free for all.

I can see this being pretty fun with a group of people as a break from questing.

There are 5 tiles on the floor with swords, standing on them doesn't do anything. But I assume the programmers made it as a "starting point" for the melees. Everyone picks a tile until someone verbally signals the melee has begun.

@ flare65 & duo-r (thanks for the info. Maybe we can talk later and get more in depth.)

I've got some power up info for the characters. I can't believe how obscure this game is, but makes sense as a late release.

One other thing is there could more info on how to switch back and forth from single player to multiplayer using the same save game. It was a little tricky but I figured it out.

It looks like a similar mode is in Dungeon Explorer 1 in the first castle at the beginning of the game.

since I have already started DE II, is it still worth checking out DE 1? I know alot of people rave about that game, but I am really spoiled by the music in DE II, seems to have alot more polish to it.

Oh hell yes.

Once you beat DEII, you will still have an absolutely great time with original DE. The chip tunes hold their own.

Plus, let's be honest, YOU'LL WANT MOAR DUNJUN

LOL..

Yeah, dungeon explorer 1 is worth checking out if you like dungeon explorer II. They are pretty much identical gameplay except dungeon explorer II rocks out more in every single way. You are suppose to play 1 first, then be blown away by part II.

We will have to get together for sure about the arena. Maybe you could write those 2 parts, and when I fix my old faq, I can add your parts in and give you credit for the whole sections. But I will be honest. I don't think people read that faq.

Quick question, how do you change characters in game? Only way I know is using passwords. So for example playing as the Fighter and want to switch in game to the Robot.

Talk to the bar girl in the pink dress.

Here's a semi-related question for the knowledgeable peeps: how is the graphical effect done at the waterfall, where you can partially see your character when you walk behind it but the water appears solid otherwise?

I think the first town is the only one where you can't switch characters.
