Hi,
I've Been lurking on the forums for a while now. I had a pc engine core grafx when i was a kid in the early 90's. I could not afford a big collection back then so now im building my collection haha. I have a white pc engine with about 40 games so far.

Anyway, i want to build a semi portable pc engine. It's still going to run off the power brick but its going to have a 4.3" screen and controller built in. i want to use a thick piece of clear plastic and have the screen behind, it will be cool to be able to see the pc engines circuit board. it's mainly going to be running a turbo everdrive.

so I already got a screen from ebay, it's a 12v car reverse screen. it seems to run good on 6v, so is it possible to wire it straight into to pc engine and if so where would i take power from?
Thanks

Both 5v and Composite for the screen and audio for the speakers can be taken from the EXT port, it can also be powered from the port, but that would have to be very regulated.

A briefcase with a foldable 13" screen would be a nice setup as it would give portable cd support, but that would need a controller still, and batteries, that it would eat in an instance.

Those screens don´t work on 5V without modding them. If you run thru the original power jack then you need at least 6V. Someone in another thread pointed out to a raspberry forum, where some guy posted possible solder points on the LCD PCB to make it work with 5V. Try the search, I can´t remember where it was mentioned.

As it's still gonna run on a power adaptor with it's own clear shell, it should not be a bigger problem, in the new casing just put a new dc plug, going to two voltage regulators, one 7809 and one 7806, with 9v to the PCE and 6v to the screen... no need to over do things.

Is that hard to do, whats involved?

Fidde_se

Not really, most of it is already built into the regulators and needs a minimum of surrounding components.

So two regulators and a total of 4 capacitors.

Get a TE or GT and mod it with 3.5"LCD.  That's what I did.  Mine also has component video out and an external controller port.
