Quote from: guest on 05/30/2014, 05:30 PMGod, this sucks! Why is Game X so expensive?!? I need it for my collection! I'll pay anything for it! But I'm going to bitch about it here first to generate sympathy so someone will hook me up with a deal... even though I've only been a member for two weeks.

Also, I'm going to inadvertently raise its value and hype even more by cross-posting desperate WTB's on six different forums and speculative hearsay regarding how many copies exist.
This seems to be the trend lately........
Games currently in play:
PS3: COD Ghosts
TG16: Boxyboy

Name recognition more than anything else most likely. You have a bunch of new collectors looking at the library and amongst a bunch of unfamiliar title names they see Darkwing Duck. They buy it.

that game doesn't deserve the bad reputation it has.  The controls are tight and responsive, it has some of the best graphics and sound on the platform, and the fun factor is through the roof!  2nd only to Gunboat, this is truly a shining star in the US-exclusive library.

It's a late release hard to find title. Since it came out, I've seen Magical Chase for sale ten times more frequently, even in the years before it became a thing for collectards. Tailspin is another Disney cartoon based game which came out sooner and is easier to find, which is why it doesn't go for as much.

Edit: to be more clear, late releases didn't come with a case and are harder to find the manuals for. Since crazy pricing is all based around collectardation, Darkwing Duck is exactly the kind of Turbo release you'd expect to be gouged.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Agreed.  My friend and I played through and beat it last year, and while there are better TG-16 platformers out there, it's actually not too bad.

NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)
BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere. You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

Same with Darkwing Duck.

It actually has some advanced effects that many top PCE game developers either couldn't figure out how to do or couldn't be bothered to program in. Like all Western first party projects, it wasn't allowed to be polished off, but shows huge potential.

That's exactly why I think the game is such a letdown.  You can see a glimpse of what could've been but you know that what we got just isn't fun to play.  I think that a game with zero redeeming characteristics is worse than a bad game with a few cool things mixed in.  At that point I wish the game was better or that I liked what I had, but alas, I just don't enjoy Darkwing Duck at all.  'grats collectards, you're after a game that I have no interest in owning.  Enjoy driving the price up on your rare "investment" and convincing others in your ebay listing of how great the game is when you decide to finally cash in.
Current want list:  Bomberman 93
